Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6194985.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6194985) revealed that Ubisoft's Montreal studio that created Naruto: Rise of a Ninja (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35184&highlight=naruto) will be releasing a sequel this holiday season.
I wonder why this wasn't shown at E3? With this, and Ninja Storm on the PS3, everyone is getting Naruto this holiday.

Thanks. I wonder why I missed it. The first one was great and even before it was established, they made a pretty big deal about it.

It was a fairly good game, it also felt a bit like Assassins Creed Jr.
I assume this one will cover up to the end of Part 1 of the Manga when Sauske leaves the Leaf. Hopefully the plot will be conveyed a bit better this time around and that there will be a few more adventure stages.

What? How? I think it felt a lot like Zelda (but much shorter and with simpler puzzles) meets really neat fighting game. There isn't nearly as much climbing and there certainly isn't any assassination.

The first was definitely a good mix of genres and an entertaining romp, and the Japanese voice pack was appreciated. Looking forward to what they'll do in the sequel.

Just the way you can zip around the city, and the wall running technique, double jumping and stuff. They also came from the same facility at the same time, and I think they also shared some technical assets.
The AC part is just because Konahona was a vertical-ish area and it had the same problem of feeling very repetitive and those stupid checkpoint races.
I just wish the fighting engine was based more on how Naruto fights end up being, full of feints, deception and surprise attacks. Not just hitting B to counter attack.

The first game was pretty awesome, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Why wouldn't the sequel be newsworthy?

They sent word of this out via emails to folks who registered to get the 'free character' in the first Naruto 360 game. I was surprised to not hear about it on any site until now (obviously missed gamersyde's stuff).

I bought it for my little brother and, though it's a decent game, I wouldn't call it awesome. I had to push through some parts for him, and the floaty controls were really bothersome. I understand he's a Ninja, but why does he literally float in the air after you jump for a little while. On top of that some of the platforming bits were dull, and, judging from what I've seen of the gameplay, it's incredibly repetitive.
The next game certainly has potential if they tighten the controls (heh) and make the gameplay a bit more varied while adding more environments. I just equate this series to, despite being completely different experiences, the .hack games. They're alright with some potential, but it doesn't seem like it's major news.
We could debate newsworthiness all day, but it doesn't matter 'cause this is already frontpaged. ;)

I played this. For a while. And while I wanted to like it I actually think it's rather crap. The fighting is button bashingly dull after the initial "wow, look those graphics". It all becomes repetitive real fast. The adventure bits don't really add stuff that's interesting (and after AC I'm confident Ubi doesn't know how to do addictive in a right way, the kind that makes you wander around looking for coin 99 out of 100). It just becomes so mind numbingly dull after an hour or 2.
I had more fun with the PS3 demo of late than with this whole game, and that was 2 characters and 1 stage.
I do hope beyond good and Evil 2 rekindles it's magic cause every Ubisoft adventure of late looks great, but just loses appeal real fast. I don't know if anyone shares this sentiment but it's coming to a point where the Ubisoft logo actually makes me wary of a game. They just feel empty.

Surely you've had those nights where you threw up into the sink instead of the toilet? It's the internet equivalent.

My old apartment had a sink that just didn't work right after I puked into it once. I had to buy a couple bottles of Liquid Plumber to fix it. Toilet was right there, so yeah I know what you mean.

I always assumed that it was beacuase he had the nine-tailed demon fox inside him....I hope that does'nt count as a spoiler, it's in the game intro and the first episode of the anime

Have you watched any of the anime? If you are a fan of anime, this one is about the exploits of young ninja growing up in a town of ninja. I really enjoy it. There are about 200 episodes of the original anime (a lot of them after episode 100 or so are just filler, but some of those are good too). Then they started the numbering over again for a new series that has all of the characters grown up from being middle school aged into being young teenagers. There are 67 episodes of that out.
This may seem like a lot to watch, but they are 30 minute episodes cut down to about 22 minutes for ads with about 5 minutes for titles and 2 minutes for the "Next Week On. . . " and the funny kicker, so you really only have 15 minutes to watch each episode. . . which honestly kind of sucks, but at least you get a bunch of episodes when you buy them.

Or just read the manga, you can plow through a chapter in 5 minutes or less.

GODS! I want a game just like this new Naruto but with INUYASHA in it instead. MUCH better character, much more adult story, would make a killer action game. But of course, everyone loves Naruto, just like everyone loves football over tennis. Gah!

I don't love Naruto.
To me, it's Pokemon for the kids slightly younger than the Pokemon generation. I hear so many young kids talking about it all the time.

Actually, who has played the PS3 demo and the 360 game? I've decided to start playing the 360 game after playing the PS3 game and it seems quite different. Which makes sense, because they're from completely different devs. Still odd though.

The combat mechanics are quite a bit different between the two games.
The 360 game is the most fun I've had on the 360 this year, pretty good game.
I didn't have much time with the PS3 demo but the combat is quite a bit more flashy than the other game, but I didn't have enough time with it to see if there was really any depth beneath the flash.
I don't think I'll buy another Naruto game until we get one that starts with Shippuuden, I'm tired of the first story arc.

Inuyasha is such a soap opera though. You get some of that with Naruto, but half of any Inuyasha episode was that bow chick whining about her feelings. Yick.

I'm honestly a pretty sensitive guy. I cry when Old Yeller dies and I can't sleep after watching holocaust movies. That doesn't mean I like poorly crafted soap opera schmaltz. The bow chick's uncertainty about her relationships is stupid because she is hanging out with people who wear their hearts on their sleeves and if she isn't good at understanding the behavior of others she could ASK and move forward. . . How many times can she feel uncertain about her place in the group and affirm it buy kicking ass or uncertain about Inuyasha's affections and have them affirmed by his kicking ass to saver her? It's redundant and if not for the overarching storyline and supplementary characters the show would have been as bad as Scooby Doo.

What you don't enjoy the back and forth emotional obstacle of pedophilia that is brought about from him being an old half-demon and her being 14?

Wow, you would REALLY hate Ah My Goddess! then. I suppose some level of maturity and a stable relationship is required to appreciate an anime with some sensitivity and emotional depth.

I don't mind emotional depth. I mind poor writing that recreates the SAME dramatic storylines over and over. If they did one episode where whiney bow chick is not sure of herself but then gains assurance by saving the day instead of having this as a major theme in so many episodes, then that would be cool. The problem is that the writer's in Inuyasha fall into the trap of bad soap opera. . . they repeat the same emotional vulnerabilities over and over even though they were supposed to be resolved in previous episodes. This creates a lack of importance when they do "triumph" over some emotional problem because you know they'll weakly fall prey to their insecurities once again the next time the show airs.
This is really odd for anime too. One of the things that I normally appreciate about anime is how they aren't afraid to really change the story dynamic by allowing characters and the overarching plot to grow. This was one of the reasons that so many people hated the filler in Naruto. It became a bit "Scooby Doo" even though they did do a lot to avoid that (using different characters often).
It's rude to assume character flaws in other people just because they don't like what you like. I could have implied awful things about you because you like Inuyasha, but I won't do that because it is rude AND I don't believe liking or disliking an anime says anything definite about someone's character.

I've come to believe that most Anime series would be much improved if they cut the number of episodes in half.

Talon-, have you ever seen Baccano (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baccano!)? That series has a perfect length, in my opinion.
Of course, I'm fine with 20-30 episode series as well.
