Hi Ho Gang. As Evil's beard gets a little more gray from the server problems that the host doesn't say is there (umm, hey host, this was supposed to get put up on Friday/Saturday), the weekend came and went. What games were you able to play this last weekend? I got in some City of Heroes and "Clean out the storage shed" in 100 degree weather. That last one was fun. What did you do?

Mostly Farcry and WoW, with a little big of BG2:SOA mixed in for good measure.

I played 'Let's see if EvAv is up'. And lost...

Apart from that, it was Burnout Revenge all the way!

I played through Day of the Tentacle again, and it was still plenty of fun. Some of it I remembered, some I didn't :)

I played 'save your customer from disaster' and got to be the hero.

Played some dragonshard, the difficulty goes up a bit near the end of the third campaign map, lol. Make sure you maximize your unit count and their levels before touching the drawbidge.

They had to shut off their datacenter this weekend due to power work effecting their entire building.

There were quite a bit of 'changes' that were never tested with a reboot, a few of which did things like the following:

1. servers won't boot far enough to give you a login prompt
2. couple terabyte of data on midrange disk 'disappeared'
3. hardware vendor responsible for the products couldn't fix anything after 6 hours of trying.

They knew they were screwed around 6pm, called us, I got there by 7pm, had most of it fixed by 11pm.

I got to be Harvey Keitel in Pulp Fiction, just for computer stuff.

Ninja Gaiden Black in Mission Mode. Son of a bitch some of that shit is hard. Die, Doku, die!!

I also benchmarked the shit out of my 9800Pro 256MB in anticipation of the arrival of the X800Pro 256MB I should receive tomorrow (since FedEx Home doesn't deliver on Mondays...WTF kind of business model is that?!) and setup a laptop for my little sister, brother-in-law, and 3 week old nephew.

What's a decent real-world D3D benchmark? UT2k4 gives suspiciously similar numbers no matter what settings I change. We all know that 3DMark\Futuremark isn't "real."

You know, GoGamer tossed this into the box with the rest of my order. WTF kind of game is it? I've never heard of it, and I'm at work and examining boxart is a wee bit more obvious than typing a quick post.

Indigo Prophecy (XBOX) - Love the story and adventure aspects. Hate the stupid Simon Says arcade bits
Ultimate Spider-Man (XBOX) - Love the graphics and better than last years game.
MediEvil: Resurrection (PSP) - A decent platformer, but not great.
SOCOM: Online Beta (PSP) - Surprisingly fun.

Ninja Gaiden Black in Mission Mode. Son of a bitch some of that shit is hard. Die, Doku, die!!
Oh, good lord. I know exactly what you mean. I love the missions with non-boss enemies, but the ones with bosses seem to be more frustrating than fun. Jump around endlessly, wait for a chance to maybe hit the boss, dodge away, repeat. The boss battles are more tedium than fun.

I still hate that you can't manually swap the camera away from the boss - no matter where you go, the camera is behind you looking at the boss. The baddies that spawn are almost impossible to kill since I can't see where they are.

Even so, I'm still having fun. The Lunar is great and the game seems a bit more polished.

Anybody try the Hurricane Packs? How do you even access those?

And I reactivated my WoW account this weekend. As long as it doesn't take over my life like it did before, I look forward to many happy (if reduced) hours of gaming goodness.

That's precisely the problem I'm having with the Doku challenge. The arena has doorways that the camera can move back into, which, when it does, completely blocks your view of Ryu nevermind the little Samurai Jr. dudes that've spawned in. WTF, over?!

Some Burnout 4 (I don't care if they call it Revenge, it's Burnout 4), Metroid Fusion, and the HORRIBLE Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the DS.

I need a better portable golf game than this garbage.

Two strategies have worked for me: pull out the Dabilahro and run circles around the side. When you get close to Doku (and if he's not doing some massive attack) run vertically up the wall, jump off and hold Y to do a power slam. If it hits, it hurts quite a bit. The other is to go mad with the Kitetsu and hope for the best.

But even if you kill Doku, that's not the end of the battle (assuming you're on the "Final Round of the Master Ninja Tournament" one). If you can beat it, you're a better ninja than I.

I played the single-player game on Hard mode and made it to the third chapter. Most of the ninjas who wore brown or white on normal mode are those black ninjas with incendiary shurikens. Freaking impossible.

Oh, and I'm most of the way through Psychonauts. One of the funniest and best games I've ever played. Freedom!

Final Fantasy X - for about an hour, until I realized yet again that I just don't have the patience. I've played a smidgen of the first, a few hours into VII, etc - about once or twice a year I revisit the series, hoping that something - in my mindset, in the franchise, I don't know - will be different. Never is. So then I played Jade Empire to console myself. :)

I beat Radiata Stories, played some Glitch in the System, and started SMT: Nocturne last night. I am digging Nocturne and the super fast battles (and load times) but I hear the game gets SUPER hard and unfair in some spots later on. I'm scared, but I'll see what happens.

I'm about a year behind in my gaming. Just finally catching up as this crazy fall season comes around AGAIN.

I wasn't impressed with Instincts either. I only played for a couple levels, but goddamn, why cant I get used to FPS's consoles? I haven't played a FPS in a LONG time on PC, but I still can't get accurate or used to thumbsticks. I can't shake this uncomfortable demon. You people who have never used a keyboard and mouse for shooters are lucky because you don't know what you are missing.

This is NOT better than the PC version, no matter what Douchebag Ocampo says on Gamespot. At least, not as far as I got.

Other than that, there's like 10 demos I wanna try.

It's an RTS but you don't build any structures you just work with unit(s) that are given to you at the beggining of each level. You can control a bunch of guys at the same time or simply hide them all in some tall grass or a building and solo with 1 soldier.

This is one of those games that I think a lot of people skipped because it had no hype and the controls are designed by a monkey, but once you get over that you see how great the game is. Everything is destrictible, just shoot any building with a tank and your eyes wont believe the detail put into each explosion.

The best part of this game is "coop". Coordinating with your friend as you cover each other during battle, very few games come close to this one.

They are working on a sequel called Outfront 2 (Outfront being the original name of the first, but the publisher changed it.)

Started KUF Heroes. The difficulty ramp seems pretty steep with one of the earliest missions in the first campaign being crazy hard. For anyone wanting to give me some hints it's that damn cave mission with Ellen. I just get swarmed by the Paladins on one side and Dark Elves the other.

When I gave up on that I went back to getting stuck on Advance Wars DS.

I started Arx Fatalis finally but didn't have much time to play it. Plus I saw a big spider in the game, and I hate spiders, so...

I mostly played the Social Life game. Went out Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, which is unprecendented for me. Had a great time, made some new friends, got stinking drunk, made out with a stripper...fun times.

I played 'save your customer from disaster' and got to be the hero.

I hope that Evil wasn't your customer!

I spent the weekend cleaning up my house... When I got a chance to game (after seeing the most awesome Serenity) I was working on Indigo Prophecy and some Burnout Revenge.

I did have the chance to play some Taiko Drum Master on the PS2 with my friend and I tell ya, it is one awesome game to play two player. They've timed the songs out so that you're actually playing counterpoint to the other person and you can really get into a groove. I'm going out to pick up another Taiko controller so that I can play this more often when I have friends over. One drum is not enough!

I just picked up Yohoho Puzzle Pirates today and I'm going to give that a spin. I played the demo a lot and it is a fun MMOaaaaarrrRPG :)

Oh, I dug up my copy of Omikron and tried to play it but for some reason I have no sound in the actual game. The opening movie has sound, but not the game... wierd...

I played a lot of Nocturne back after Christmas last year when I had 6 months off... suffice it to say, I still have to finish it, and I even broke down and picked up the strategy guide.

It's an awesome game but it gets rather insane about 30 hours in... difficulty-wise, that is.

Hey Spigot. Did you ever beat Radiata Stories? Also, as a fellow-RPGer, I was wondering if you've played SMT: Nocturne. I'm playing it now, or will be later this week once I find some more time, and I was wondering if you had any difficulty with it. I'm afraid the difficulty of this game will be daunting for me. Havent hit a snag yet, but I'm worried already.

Any other good RPGs lately? How was Star Ocean 3?

EDIT: OOPS, looks like you beat me!

I haven't really spent any time with Radiata in a week or so. I've been so busy this last week that what little time I've had I've put into Indigo Prophecy or some action-type games (like Sly 3, Burnout or Taiko) that don't eat up much of my day.

I'm heading home again this weekend and will take Radiata with me and try to put in some serious playtime.

Star Ocean 3 is another one of the RPG's I picked up last year and really didn't spend much time with. I've vowed not to buy another RPG until I've finished off a few of the ones I bought last year. Xenosaga 2 and Star Ocean 3 are on my list next.

I'm the same, I play games other than RPGs most times now because they don't require a big commitment. Plus, I can beat them in 15 hours tops. I still play my MVP baseball season, but those are half hour games and not that big a deal.

You can beat Radiata in a couple days. I clocked in like 32 hours or so, but the game can be beat in 20 or less. If you need to progress the story, use your bed to sleep. If not, you'll be running around doing nothing for a long time. Just a tip if you are ever stuck at a crossroads with no missions to perform. Sleeping once or twice always does wonders.

I beat the game on Saturday and started Nocturne on Sunday. I don't really need another long RPG, but I've decided to give it a go. I love Shin Megami Tensei anyway, but fear console-RPG unfairness (like random battles where the enemies kill you with instant death or multiple turns before you can even put in a command!)

By the time you get to the insta-kill enemies, you'll likely have the ability to counter that. Just be careful.

I love collecting and fusing the demons for your party. I spent far too much time fiddling around with that aspect of the game.

Still making considerable progress in Ninja Gaiden Black. Up to Chapter 14 now and still haven't had too hard of a time. Plenty of cash and maxed out on power up items. Really digging the game, though.
