For those who aren’t familiar with Deadpool, he’s a mercenary who willing volunteered for the Weapon X project in hopes of being cured of cancer. He was cured with the results being an accelerated healing factor and his entire skin becoming road pizza. While Cable’s history is a bit more twisted and you can read it all here (http://www.marveldirectory.com/individuals/c/cable.htm). With all that being said this series takes a lighter satirical approach to these two characters with the various plots, characterizations and dialogue.

Fabian Nicieza who helped create Deadpool does a great job of creating a fun light superhero book with snappy banter and situations. This issue focuses more on Deadpool than Cable with the best part of this issue being the last few pages. Patrick Zircher does an excellent job with the art, especially conveying Deadpool’s facial expressions through his mask.

Bottom Line:
This is a fun superhero book with juvenile humor that may not appeal to die-hard superhero fans but it is still worth reading if one can go into the comic with an open mind.

This seriously delayed issue had it’s work cut out for itself in being worth the wait and it actually came through in the script department. Warren Ellis did a bang-up job of piecing this tardy book with excellent characterizations and dialogue. However, due to the lateness of this book, Hawkeye is still alive and kicking in this issue. As far as the art goes, the work created by Tom Raney is decent with a interesting panel layout however his artwork has a twinge of goofiness in many of the facial expressions that were used.

As a whole the series hasn’t been worth the money or the time but since I’ve invested $6.00 in the first two issues I am going to ride this series out.

Bottom Line:
If you haven’t been collecting this series, then save your money for the TPB or dollar box. Otherwise, this is probably the best issue of the series at this point.

7/10

Superman/Batman #22 (An ongoing series)
Publisher: DC Comics
Writer: Jeph Loeb
Penciller: Ed McGuinness
Inker: Dexter Vines
Colorist: Dave McCaig
Letterer: Richard Starkings
Editor: Eddie Berganza
Price: $2.99 US/$4.00 CAN

This is the third part in this six-part storyline where Superman and Batman are accused by the Maximums that they’ve killed Lois Lane and somehow Darkseid is involved in this mess. Meanwhile, Bizarro and Batzarro take matters in their own hands and break into the JLA Watchtower to use the teleporter. The results are hilarious as Batzarro ends up being caught by the Red Son Superman and the Batman from the Batman Beyond animated series wrangles Bizarro. Meanwhile, Lex is brooding over Supergirl while the Bowman infects Batman with some type of green gas that incites super strength and the desire to kill Superman.

Jeph Loeb does a great job in storyline and pacing with this issue while inserting some great humor from the Bizarro twins. Some of the dialogue was a bit over the top but Batman’s use of Kryptonese reaffirmed how relentless his quest for knowledge and control is. Ed McGuinness artwork is top shelf in this issue; every single panel oozes action and atmosphere. Dexter Vines’ inks and Dave McCaig’s coloring really accented McGuinness’ art.

Bottom Line:
This was a fun issue for any fans of Batman, Superman or Bizarro. The story and artwork is definatley make this issue worth the money.

What else is worth reading this week…
• Jack Cross #2 – The conspiracy gets deeper as we see more of the monster that Jack has become.
• Young Avengers #7 – If you’ve been following this book, it’s really starting to pay off in character development with this issue. If you haven’t been reading this book, you should.
