So... who's going to start the "What Did You Play This Weekend?" thread? Or is it moot because all true and noble geeks were off paying homage at the shrine of Joss Whedon, thanking him for Serenity?
I know I was... That, and I spent a lot of time cleaning stuff.
So... who's going to start the "What Did You Play This Weekend?" thread?
Well, I played the "press the F5 key" most of my weekend, hoping to se EA back... ;)

Do we require more vespene gas?
As long as it's no phosgene, we'll be fine. :) Unfortunately, your question reminded me of something else:
It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of Sappho that the thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

Other than the few people here who have posted their Gmail/Gtalk addresses and the members of the Writer's Guild/Book Club, if the site went down forever, I would lose contact with just about everyone.
Good to see that didn't happen.

Honestly...we still don't know what our problem is, and we may go down again. Evil said he's gonna really try to nail it down tomorrow when he has more time.

It looks like the server is locking up every morning at about 1:50 AM. It starts to generate error messages at around 1:50 and by 2:09 it seems to have frozen up. This is what has been happening every night.
I'm open to suggestions, I have no idea why all the sudden it seems to be crashing when it has run just fine for nine months.
I don't have any tasks scheduled for that time, but I'm not really sure what I should be looking for.

Don't you have, I don't know, a hosting/server company that should be doing this kind of thing for you?
Yeah, who's server is this?

My life is also empty without our endlessly homoerotic banter, fitbabits. If EvAv goes down again...if it dies once more...just know that...that I love you, fitty.
In a purely non-gay, non-sexual, non-emotional, love-type way, of course.
Well, put that way, I guess I don't really love you. Phew. :o

How will I win more free comics if EvAv goes down?!
Actually, I have some friends who might be able to help if you need it. They're pretty uber when it comes to the fixing of code and wierd server stuff. We'd just need to know the error messages.

Well, EA. I have two hosted sites im currently paying for, but not yet using. If you want, and this sites back end is either SQL or MySql, I can offer you a roll-over site until such time as I get my ass in gear and actually use the sites I bought. I believe it can serve about 6 gigs of traffic a month with about 2 gigs local storage allowed. Let me know if you want the offer ( mike@return42.com ). And dont worry, the return42 domain isnt the host :) Its a POS domain running off my DSL connection at home.
Cheers

When do your logs run Evil Avatar? Do they run every couple of hours? Or once a day?
If you are doing a lot of traffic those logs can get quite large and if you run them once a day you could be overloading the cpu and eating up all your ram.

You know, you can love someone and not be 'in love' with them. Like brotherly love or something. Or the way I love my cats. Wouldn't dream of shagging them, but I can confess to loving them intensely.
You see what happens when EvAv goes down? Somebody's bollocks need to be severely rattled in order for this problem to be rectified. I volunteer to do the rattling.

This is getting ridiculous! How am I supposed to tell my boss that the only reason my productivity is through the roof is due to the problems with EvAv? I know that she's going to ask just as soon as normal service is resumed and my productivity tanks! See the dilemma I'm in!!!
Maybe Evil can write me a note??

It's like one of those hit the gopher games. EA just keeps poping up for short amounts of time.
The site came up once this morning, I wrote a news post, and have been waiting for the site to come back around to finally post it....

Check and make sure it's not trying to poll the *** site for updates at that time? Can you copy/paste the event log from that time period?

Today I actually ran out of work to do and extended a hand to my fellow colleagues. WTF? I haven't done stuff like that for...oh, since I joined EvAv in February. Since then I seem to be busy all the time at my desk. Seem is the key word here, because EvAv is always running in the background.
I'm up for Employee of the Fucking Month now, probably.
Maybe you should give some of your bonus to Evil's host.

Well. See, people love the idea of such things, but no one seems to want to keep up to snuff. After all, this site is full of ADHD gamers. Remember when we had the book poll for September? About 90 percent of those people who voted didnt even bother with the book.
The Writer's Guild started out okay, but now it's basically a wasteland, one month after conception. I blame entropy.
And lazy people.

I seriously panicked this weekend.
The last time the site went down for this long, Evil ended up moving to a whole new system and we all had to re-register. Some bastard stole my name and I had to use something else. That was probably for the better though. ;)
That happened another time before that too, if I remember correctly.
This has been my main stop on the next for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty sure I've been through all the iterations, or at least most of them.
Please don't ever leave me again! :(
Edit - I love to write - the problem is that I am lazy, and a procrastinator.
Hence little writing gets done. :( I blame Evil Avatar.

This is getting ridiculous. I feel I'm being punished for something. Please fix it, Evil, or you'll be responsible for the hospital bills I'm about to start running up for psychiatric services.
I don't quite get it. Where is the server located? Do the issues actually fall in your lap Evil?
