View Full Version : Alan Wake Not Coming To TGS 2008
Last weeks rumors (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58043) were saying that Alan Wake would be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show this October, according to a Windows Vista competition (http://specials.uk.msn.com/vista-wow/beaface.aspx?vv=550). The text for the competition description still says Tokyo Game Show 2008, Remedy however says now (http://www.alanwake.com/forum/showpost.php?&p=29924&postcount=27) that it was from 2007 and they did not speak with Microsoft yet for any show-off at upcoming conventions.
The Microsoft Vista promotion referring to TGS took place in 2007, and is old news - we've had the winner over for taking the pictures already.
Sorry for the confusion and possible disappointment, but this was not an announcement that Wake would be shown at TGS 2008. Remedy's team is just getting back from a bit of holiday and we haven't had time to chat with Microsoft on upcoming shows/showings yet.
Too bad. It would be really nice to see at least a few new pictures or get some deeper background information besides the tag-line. I don't know what time frame they need for such presentations, but this almost certainly means no Alan Wake for the upcoming Games Convention in Leipzig.

That's really too bad. Max Payne 1 & 2 are two fantastic games (especially the former), and judging by those and the information they've released on Alan Wake so far, it looks absolutely amazing.
On a side-note; anyone else who think that those shots kinda look like what the Half-Life 3 engine could have been/will be? I don't know why, but they remind me of the Source engine...

The Alan Wake is a lie.

You mean... all this time that we've been waiting impatiently for ANYTHING about the game, they've been on a bloody vacation?

Looking on the positive side of things, at least we now know for certain. This simply forced Remedy's hand.

This is seeming more and more like it no longer exists.
Shame, too. I think it had excellent potential.

I wish I could share your optimism.

Yea, no kidding. Remedy spent too much time hanging out with 3dr from the looks of it. Could have had another Max game or two by now. (I know they sold the rights to Max, just sayin)

But...what if we've heard that term before...should I forget I heard it first elsewhere (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57794&highlight=nukemware)?
The new slogan of the team behind Alan Wake: "It's done when it's done."

Alan Wake is a great example of why titles should not be announced until they are less than six months from release.

This game looked so promising!! I really hope the devs can get there shit together.

Aren't 99% of all games examples for that? ;)
At least neither Remedy nor Microsoft ever set a release date for this game. While I sure like to see some new stuff it might be good not to show much if the game won't be released anytime soon. It just creates unnecessary hype no one needs.

Alan Wake: Late '09 to early '10 release. It'll be one of the 360's last great titles before the switch to Xbox 3.

Ofcourse, you could also play the better version on a high end PC with THE MATRIX MOD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIhjtSY-nxg&feature=related). :p

We don't even know all of the gameplay details of Alan Wake. To assume it's going to be just like Max Payne is a bit presumptuous at this point.
That being said, you're a good man Bogard. That mod looks AMAZING.

I can understand being excited about Alan Wake, but I will never understand the over exuberance and the automatic assumption that this game will be great. Max Payne was a fun game, but a game like Alan Wake is a fundamentally different kind of experience. I'm assuming these guys actually hired a writer for Alan Wake, so I'll skip over that component of the Max Payne games.
Do we know anything else about the gameplay besides "Light is fundamental to the world of Alan Wake?" Seriously, I feel like I'm missing something.
Is it just that my pants don't explode when I read "Lovecraft-inspired" attached to a description of a game?

Well... we know from the Intel demos that there will be tornadoes that will pick up and smash houses, as well as avalanches and shit.
Tech demos... nukemware.
