Gamespot gives Farcry: Instincts a 9.2

Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/) has just posted their review of Ubisofts re-imagning of the PC shooter called Farcry: Instincts.

Far Cry Instincts is awesome in every sense of the word. This is a big game, with a lengthy single-player story, a full multiplayer suite, and a level editor thrown in for kicks. Graphically, it pushes the Xbox to its limits and delivers some jaw-dropping visuals as it immerses you in lush jungles with sweeping vistas.Pretty biased ....... those guys at Gamespot.

I'm curious to see what the map maker will offer, especially on Live.
It wouldn't be too hard for Far Cry Instincts's multiplayer to improve on the PC version, as multiplayer was one of the weak spots of the original Far Cry. Thankfully, Far Cry Instincts features a far better multiplayer suite than Far Cry for the PC. For starters, there are the standard deathmatch and team deathmatch modes (titled chaos and team chaos), and you can go at each other with all the weapons and vehicles from the single-player game. You can even set traps, like you do in single-player. There's also a traditional capture-the-flag mode (dubbed steal the sample). The most interesting mode, though, is predator, which pits one player against the rest. That one player, the predator, gets all the feral abilities from the single-player games. This can result in some crazy moments, when the predator literally swoops into the fray.
The reviewer is not kidding there. The predator mode is A-W-E-S-O-M-E

I dunno, I always found them a little harsh towards MS.

Still I wouldn't mind getting my hands on this as it looks to be one of the last really good games to come out before the next generation. But I need to save for the 360, so that's not going to happen.

In what way is it biased again? I watched the video review and it seemed to be pretty much a fair opinion--haven't played the game but I didn't see anything that struck me as unfair in the review.

Try reading the bloody review policy before whining. The PC version has better controls but that doesn't make it any better in any of the 5 categories, except possibly tilt but those scores reflect the expectations of each individual platform. The improved controls are what we, PC gamers, expect in our games. I'm certainly not interested in playing a horror-shooter that's not mouse and keyboarded out so if it wasn't better it would be a serious cause for concern but being better is what I expect as a PC gamer.

Furthermore comparisions to Farcry are again not really relevant as it's a PC game and this is a completely different xbox game. If you're looking for a PC game with a gamepad let me suggest a logitech one or a Controller-S Adapter on Lik-Sang. These things seem really cool to me. They're not like the PC game and that's fine by me. A PC game is harder to make to the top of the line standards that PC gamers expect--it's just going to get the same scores in a system based on independent variables than it will be on a console system. It's unfortunate that this results in a lower score for some high profile PC titles but if you actually read the review you'll still find that they think a lot of these PC titles are very good games. The score ought not be the fixation point of a review the content ought be what we put our emphasis on and nobody does detail orientation like Gamespot.

You shouldn't compare past games to current games of similar scores. There are always different standards, especially for console games vs. PC games. Far Cry for PC rocked. I can't imagine the console version being any better, but I might give it a spin anyway.

I wasnt talking about the controls in far cry, i mentioned the name SUFFERING i think

the cross platform comparision is a red herring, it's irrelevant. When I buy games for my PC I have a certain set of expectations to meet regarding these things and other PC games i could contextually compare the graphics to. When I buy an Xbox game, I have a certain set of expectations. As long as the two games are both a 10 by the standards of their respective platforms at the time of release the fact that the PC version looks better is a mute point. Why? is it mute, well most obviously because not everyone owns every platform. I mean if I owned an Xbox and a PC that couldn't play games, why would I care if some game on some system that I don't have has better graphics? It's still going to be a 10 by my standards because my standards are set by the Xbox's graphics. For them to do otherwise, wouldn't be fair to all the platforms out there. IF they made a GBA version of Farcry, would you expect the same level of graphical fidelity out of it or would you realize that it's a different platform subject to different graphical standards and a 10 graphically speaking doesn't have anything to do what another game on another platform got. Just because the title and setting are the same doesn't mean that the games are the same game--just look at the Medal of Honor series if you want another example of this.

And exactly which platform is gamespot a fanboy of? Are they PC haters by your definition despite the fact that only 10 months ago they gave a very controversial Game of the Year award to World of Warcraft? Despite quite a litany of great console titles last year.

I don't believe that any of these major review sites are particularly biased toward certain platforms. Most likely they don't give a crap. Bias is something you find mostly in obsessive internet fanboys and 4th grade kids, not professionals who do this for a living..

So, the arguement that the PC version is better comes down to that the PC version had better graphics?

I am thinking Instincts is a franchise game, but not a port. It has a diffrent gameplay style, diffrent story. It has similar items, chracters, setting and engine.

I expect Instincts to be better as it has had over a year of time to build on and improve the Far Cry formula. I also think that the predator crap they throw in the game is cool.

Having not played the game, I can't say that it's better than the original FarCry. But have YOU played it, Bogart? Or are you just a hater? You're within your rights to dislike something IF YOU HAVE PLAYED IT. But if you haven't, which you don't seem to have, then you're talking out of your ass. It's simple console-hate, which is a very tired gig, around here. Even Borys has given up on being a COMPLETE PC-zealot-guy.

wow, this game has come a long way since the demo a couple months ago...

I know it was a demo, but it was horrid IMO. The only thin that demo was good for was keeping me from spending money on that game.

* there were invisible walls EVERYWHERE.

* the AI was atrocious. You could literally stand 4 feet from a bad guy and throw rocks in his face and he would not attack you. I'm talking about the guy at the top of the cliff overlooking the little base

* some of the animations were terrible. The backstabbing one for instance was so fast you couldnt hardly see it.

I was impressed by the graphics though, and the graphics while swimming were neat.

I have played it, predator mode isnt very orignal , its been done before so please stop bashing on that point, i dont like wasting my time on something i havent played -_-
