Sony wrote up a long PR piece after their conference talking about everything that happened in the conference itself. We do have our recap news post (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57779), but I figured everyone would like to read Sony's line on stuff. Here is a the corporate speak with the full PR after the break:
"The PlayStation family of products is unsurpassed in 2008 with a lineup of exclusive content for all platforms developed by the best and brightest development teams in the world,” said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We are dedicated to driving the industry forward leveraging our technology and development resources to offer consumers a wide variety of innovative titles, from casual games to hardcore games.”
They do talk a bit about each of the games shown at the conference. The game I thought that looked really cool was Crash Commando on PSN. It was a 2D side-scroller shooter and the guy had a jetpack. It wa like Bionic Commando, except a jetpack was used instead of a bionic arm.

It actually looks a lot like Metal Warriors:

Likewise for me--Crash Commando was the one heretofore unknown game that piqued my interest more than any of the others I saw. Something about games that use the LodeRunner perspective that I'm just a sucker for. :)
Will someone please explain Sony's thinking about adding a digital distribution for movies when the ps3's biggest selling point is it's blu-ray player?

There's a bright-side in every situation if you look hard enough...i like your spunk!

Because things are not all-or-nothing
On-Demand Rentals are the future, but buying your movies on discs isn't going away anytime soon and give far better quality. I'll be using both. Its not a difficult concept

Well, you did happen to notice that you can't buy HD versions of any of the movies, right? You can only rent HD versions from what I could see. Anyone with a PS3 able to confirm or deny that by browsing the store?
And was anyone else dumbfounded by the size of the SD movies? 1.5 GB for an SD movie? Is that right? I've never got one from XBOX Live, so I don't know how big they are. And I can't recall how large the ones I've got from Amazon Unbox are either, but 1.5 GB for just under 2 hours seems quite large, no?

That is true. All of the movies I browsed, you could only rent the HD versions. The only version for actual sale is the SD version. Plus, newer movies seem to be $12.99 - $14.99. Older movies are $9.99 and lower. I was lukewarm about the video service until I saw the anime section. Hoo boy, my PSN wallet's gonna see some activity now...

Not really. Most *ahem* illegal DVD rips are 2 CDs, ~1.36 GB for the whole movie, and that's usually at a lower resolution than standard DVD (720x480). And that's also with compression, so futz around with the compression to get the quality up, and you get 1.5-2 GB for a movie.
