IMDB (http://imdb.com/news/wenn/2005-09-27/), MTV.com (http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1510382/09262005/story.jhtml), and 1up (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3144141) all have article concerning Honey star, Jessica Alba co-creating a video game.

Alba reveals she first became interested in the idea when she realized it wouldn't feature any violence - and now she hopes to use the unnamed videogame to show potential movie directors the types of action films she wants to be a part of. She explains, "It's something that relates to anybody, anywhere in the world and basically you use the city as your playground. It's really really cool. In Korea, what they're doing is people can basically play the games all the time on their phones. It's gonna be like an interactive thing. This is the kind of action that I wanna do when I do an action movie." We're still in prototype mode, but it's nonviolent and you can basically create your own character. It's basically based off a new thing that kids are doing, an X-Games sport that hasn't really become mainstream yet," Alba said cryptically. "It's not like a real X-Games sport yet; it's kind of on the brink of becoming one, I think. And I don't want to talk about it, because I want to come out with the game and show people what it's all about."
Ummm worked for Vin Diesel (???)

I actually played this game...

...when it was called Uru Live. I predict that Jessica's game will fare about as well.

Eh. It's interesting to see celebrities taking an interest in video games. Her name attached to this is good for gaming's popularity with the mainstream at the least.

I bet it's "crunking"... which is this crazy new ghetto glam-rock break-dancing thing coming out of LA. I think it's LA. Anyhow, it's pretty crazy looking. If you saw Be Cool (AKA Get Shorty 2) there are some dancer kids in face-paint in one scene who I think are "crunkers".

I can only hope that it's a "Honey" DS game. Oh the possibilities!

It's gotta be the same "sport" that Mark Ecko's game is based on, sans tagging. It's like freestyle running through streets and buildings, jumping off of shit and doing acrobatics. There were some commercials featuring it a while back. I'm guessing it's going to be like tony hawk without the skateboard.

Man, her description is seriously all over the place. I wonder if it just turns out to be a re-labelled version of Tetris or Pong.

Heh, not in my view. I've seen games just get bigger and bigger, and by and large, it's been a good thing to me. (Not in every case, and yeah, it means there's more shit in the market, but more gems too.)

Question: How can a sport game feature zero violence? Wouldn't a fall or an injury constitute violence?

There's already at least two games based on parkour coming out, what would be the point in keeping it so hush hush if this is all it turned out to be??

There's already at least two games based on parkour coming out, what would be the point in keeping it so hush hush if this is all it turned out to be??That's because it isn't Parkour. It's clearly going to be a game about urban style Extreme Ironing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_ironing).

Vague, much?

On a unrelated note, did anyone see the episode of MadTV that featured crunking? It was pretty funny, mainly because of the violence ;)

I also thought Alba was talk free running, but is it even a x-game?

Nope, violence implies intent to injure. Accidental injury doesn't count.

Watch a guy jump a 20 foot gap with a 30 foot drop and get up and tell me that's not extreme.

Nice guess. She said a bunch of kids are doing it. People of all ages free-run/splinter cell around. I hope Jessica knows her stuff.

I was about to make a comment but this is just too stupid for words and it's too early in the morning.

Parkour is very Prince of Persia-like. But I doubt X-Games will carry it because hey, there is no actual "tool" involved in the game, you just use your body. Notice how you can't really think of any "Official X-Games" Parkour equipment to market and exploit to young kids.

I hate the way Parkour has become the outlet for all the wannabe trendy people to jump on the band wagon. Parkour has become very fashionable very quickly. A year or two ago hardly anyone had even heard of it.

I want to point out that the only reason it worked for Vin Diesel is because he had Starbreeze backing him up. That, and you got to shank people. If this is really a game about 'free running' or Parkour, then I'll finally have to accept that Jessica Alba is a lobotomized hottie running around under alien remote control. Aliens bent on TOTAL DESTRUCTION!

From the krumping entry: "It is a very energetic danceform that gives the posibility to channel the tons of anger and rage that live in these kids in a positive way."
God, I hate wikipedia.

And parkour is/was cool. But nothing beats Extreme Accounting.

They did a parkour based show a while ago. Raised awareness of it as a sport.

Why would they use cow heads with all those Christians and Muslims running around?

I don't know that you actually need a tool for a sport to be X-Games, I believe they have body surfing don't they? I can certainly tell ya that the dudes who go body surfing out at the Wedge in Newport Beach, are nothing but totally extreme.

As far as equipment, cloths, shoes, pads, helmets, gloves. Tons of stuff to market there.

I have looked at a lot of Parkour as I am working on a game that has bits of that as inspiration. I can tell you though creating a game where they really can get that right though is going to be VERY difficult, but at the same time could be pretty cool, especially multiplayer.

Think Tony Hawk, but with no skateboard.

Tsk, tsk, when will people realize that making up new sports won't hide the fact that you failed at something traditional?

And technically speaking, violence is the correct term to describe what happens in "sport" if we looked at the sociological perspective.

Haha. The things I want to do to her would involve be winding up in jail, for sure. I don't think she's into nipple clamps, thumbscrews, an iron maiden, necrophilia, squirrel's nibbling on your giblets, a midget shoving hot pokers up your pooper and crochet needles in your urethra, and gross manipulation of internal organs.
