In the "Writer's Guild" department, Jason Sizemore of Apex - The Magazine For Sci-Fi And Horror sends along word that they are holding a Halloween Short Story Contest (http://www.apexdigest.com/halloween.shtml).

There is a small entry fee, but the money is going to a good cause. If you are a writer, you can enter the contest (http://www.apexdigest.com/halloween.shtml) or if you are a reader you can purchase (http://www.apexdigest.com/purchase.shtml) Apex Issue #3 which has just become available.

Sweet. Thanks for the heads-up, Evil. I'll probably check this out.

I would love to enter, but I don't do much Sci Fi stuff.

That's a fine competition. I'll be entering for sure. Thanks for the linkage, Evil.

My next story was going to be a very short tale with only 2 characters in it, focusing on death and mistaken identity. I'm also finishing up a tale right now that I've been working on for the past 3 weeks. I've been busy. I will still probably write this, but I'll have to brainstorm for the Apex contest. I am three braincells shy of being legally insane, so it shouldn't be too hard to think of something. I don't write much Sci-Fi either, but I read a bunch. Writing and reading are two entirely different interests of mine.

'Sci-fi Ghost Stories' huh? Hmm... dunno if I can work with that, but I have been itching to write something. *think think think*

Eek. I just read that, too. And 2000 words or less, as well. I'm longwinded...I'll have to really plot something carefully.

This would be a good challenge/topic for the Writer's Guild though.

Hmm, that's pretty vauge since I've never read anything sci-fi ghost, no idea what kind of stuff the magazone consists of either. :p At least the entry fee's reasonable, I thought it was going to be like $25 or something at first.

I would never pay a 25 buck entry fee. They tend to be around 10 or 12 dollars, and it helps pay for the award money. Still, an awful lot goes to the publications themselves.

This is a very reasonable fee. Plus, you can just order one of their magazines for 5 bucks and get a free entry. It's the same price as an entry fee, but you get a magazine with it. Not too shabby.

I'm at work, but I'm brainstorming while I work. I zone out while I'm sitting at my desk, punching away at the computer or calculator, so it helps to brainstorm. Still, a science fiction ghost story is a hard thing to come up with. The two topics almost contrast one another. The topic definitely makes you think though. It calls for writing experimentation, which is always fun.

It's acctually sparked an idea that's been forgotten for a while now, but then there's that whole sci-fi buisness. Maybe I'll grab an issue and see what it's all about.

I think I may give this a shot, thanks Evil.

I think maybe we should all share stories with one another, as well, before or after the contest. It would be a nice addition to the Writer's Guild.

Thanks for the info and linky, EvAv! Doubt I'll have the time to get in on this one, but it's nice knowing we have ya looking out for us writer-folk.

I'm having a hard enough time coming up with a Sci Fi story, let alone a Sci Fi ghost story. I guess I'll return to the bridge of the HMS White Crow and see if they have discovered anything haunted in their travels.

Ghosts of Mars? ;)

If I write about Nova will that count? ;)
