Today Microsoft has struck an agreement (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050927/tc_nm/hldmedia_microsoft_halo_dc) with French gaming company In-Fusio. The deal is a 3 year deal and includes things like Ringtones and graphics as well as a mobile game based on the franchise.

It's definitely hit & miss. Some games just aren't designed for cell phones. Some are, though: I play Tetris on mine all the time.

I've got tons downloaded off the web I copy over w/ my DKU5 cable to my Nokia. My gripe is that they're all Java based, so they're slow (as compaired to a native compile) and tend to have little bugs between all platforms.
Oh. That's why I have my PSP, DS and SP. :)

It's just early in the evolution of cell phone gaming. Nobody's figured out yet how to make it work as both a phone and game device, but it's only a matter of time. Perhaps some kind of touch screen system a la the DS? Who knows, but eventually everyone will need a cell phone, while not everyone will need/want a portable gaming device. The cell phone market is the one developers should really be wanting to crack.

Sure java's slow. But try brew or symbian - v-cast even.
I personally work at a mobile games development company and some of the games we are developing are head to head with PSOne games running at 30 fps.
Thing is only a few handsets handle those high-end games. There for everyone believes mobile gaming is about slow java games.
On topic, if In-Fusio manages the brand well they will be in a run for some (fairly) serious cash. For the sake of the industry I hope they will.

I keep waiting anxiously for the day when everyone comes out and says "man, what were we thinking, halo sucked ass!". Then I will proclaim that I have been calling halo the worst game of all time for years, and I will be admired and adored. But alas, I just keep hearing more and more news about how great that pile of shit was/is. Gah.

That will never happen because Halo was a bazillion times better than Doom 3 :D

Man, you're pretty cool, huh? Is there anything else that's popular that you don't like? I would love to hear about it so that I know that something I liked is actually terrible.
Seriously, who are you trying to impress? Whether or not Halo is overrated (and I'm not saying it is), I don't think there's any WAY it could be the worst game of all time. I mean, what about Superman 64? What about eXtreme Paintball? Jesus, what about ET: Atari?
I mean, I understand that it's very cool to not like things that a lot of people like, trust me, I do understand. But come on, dude.

Just ignore those.
I know it's hard and I feed the trolls myself from time to time but if everyone would just ignore them the problem would solve itself pretty quickly.
WE CAN DO IT! :D

I mean, we can set aside crap games like Island Peril for a minute, what about the games that are completely unplayable? I mean, even if you didn't like Halo, the game worked from start to finish, had at least decent graphics for the time, and controlled better than (at least) most of its peers. I mean, yeah, the internet lives on hyperbole, but still....

Well, I'll be on your side. I hated Halo. Clearly not "the worst game of all time", but I'll take that for hyperbole, (as others have mentioned). Perhaps more closer to home would be "most overrated game of all time". (It is in MY opinion, anyway.)

It's hard playing lots of games on the mobiles because the keypads only register a button press at a time which makes trying to press corners a nightmare.
Saying that, I have a little game called collapse! (http://www.shockwave.com/sw/content/collapse) on my mobile phone, and its the most addictive game ever (that shockwave version of it ain't too bad either).

I think I have the only cell phone ever made that doesn't come with games on it. And then I have to pay a fee just to BROWSE the games they have for sale. Curses.

You seem as though you might be able to answer this question. Is Nokia trickling the N-Gage tech down through their phones? Do they have long-term plans to slowly integrate it into their line? (As I think about it, cell network distribution would allow constant upgrades to a platform, as you can limit what games the customer sees to what they can play).

I have to agree here. We had a couple of those Xbox LAN parties back shortly after Xbox launch. 3 Xbox's, 3 TV's, 10 - 12 people. It was a lot of fun. In fact, didn't get much more fun until Halo 2 was online.
Back to the actual topic, I have downloaded a couple of the games available for my phones over the years, and the only ones I have liked were a golf game, Tetris, and Ms. Pac Man. There is a bowling game that isn't too bad, but for pure time killing enjoyment, Ms. Pac Man and Tetris are not bad. I might try a casino/card game of some sort, but haven't yet. I like the games that are quick to just pick up and play on my cell phone.

No, chips are those things eat with a hamburger, or possibly steak at a restaurant. You might also get them with your fish after the football.
Cool, maybe they can rape the series even more than Halo 2 did.

Yeah, I was just thinking that the second game in the series really was just running the whole thing into the ground.

How do you figure, did you like Half-Life 2, that was more of the same, it was phenominal but more of the same none the less. I think Halo 2 was far from "running the series into the ground" considering it was superior IMO, and it was only the second game. Whatever everyone is entitled.

I was being sarcastic re: Zeal's response.
Really, I should have quoted him but then I would have to read what his post twice, and I'm not prepared to do that.
