Some series will never die :)

Konami is currently planning a next generation development for Castlevania series, series producer Iga (just Iga) has revealed. Continuing the current setup of the series, where portable entries depict a post-Dracula world and console entries depict a world prior to Dracula's fall, next generation console titles in the series will have the latter setting.
OK, Now all the big name companies' mascot series have gone next gen. Oh wait, where's Megaman?

Some series should never (or shouldn't ever ?) die and Castlevania is one of them.

Not die, but should at least have an intervention. ENOUGH WITH THE 3D ALREADY.

Kama, you got how many... FOUR ? 2D Castlevanias in the last 4 years, I think that's good enough for not being 3D.

Nope, not near enough.

I'm sure Konami would love to tap your wallet monthly. How about a Castlevania MMO anyway? That would be interesting.

A *2D sidescrolling* Castlevania MMO. That would be the shit.

When those games still get ratings like this (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/922145.asp) more of the same can never be a bad thing.

It's glaringly obvious that Dawn of Sorrow only got that high rating because of its unique and intense use of the stylus/touchscreen. I mean, duh.

Here's hoping it's a HD 2D Castlevania and not another attempt at 3D.

The only reason I can see for them continuing to stick to 2d is that they’ve done 3d so poorly in the past. But if it was a 3d game like Ninja Gaiden, God of War or Devil May Cry I doubt anyone would complain.

I think this will be the case with the last Castelvania. I think it will be good.

I just don't think Castlevania can translated over to 3D. I was really amazed at what Itagaki achieved with Ninja Gaiden.

I can just see it: Konami: "We've been working on this 2D MMO Castlevania for 2 years. We just finished it, and we decided 2D is dead, so you'll never see it. But we're making a 3D MMO Castlevania, so rejoice."

Cue suicide wave.

Actually, crazily enough, when I played SotN. I imagined how absolutely amazing it would be to have a large multiplayer game with loads of people running around the same castle taking on enemies/bosses together and searching for gold. It almost blew my mind at how fantastic that would be.

Now, bear in mind that I had been out of the loop game-wise, especially with regards to PC gaming and MMORPGs in favour of table-top/Games Workshop. But DAMN did the idea not almost make me spaz all over.

I think a 3D outing more in the vein of Soul Reaver, but with a much better combat system would be great. I really liked the exploration and skill/upgades your character got there too.

Although really, I wouldn't complain about any game of Ninja Gaiden's calibre coming out, no matter what the licence.

I liked Lament of Innocence. It was cool, not as cool as SotN or AoS, but cool nonetheless. I'd still like to see a 2-D sidescroller done in next-gen though. Damn you kids with your fancy 3-D and such.

Yeah, where's Mega Man?

:(

And stop drooling about a Castlevania MMORPG. It would be horrible and you know it.

Where's MegaMan? WTF?! He has a new game every 3 months or so! Hell, he has another game on the GBA and on the DS coming soon. You'd have to be pretty naive (no offense) to believe capcom won't milk megaman on the nextgen consoles.

But yeah, multiplayer/online Castlevania would probably suck. There's always hope though.
