May 15th 2006 for Halo 3? (http://theconsolewars.blogspot.com/2005/09/halo-3-for-xbox-360-launch-may-15th.html) And this (http://www.actiontrip.com/link.phtml?http://www.gamers.com/index.html?run=news&news_id=4830) I stumbled across at ActionTrip saying PS3 will launch in Spring (at least in Japan).
Thanks to Blues (http://www.bluesnews.com/) for the tip.
Slow news weekend!
Take it with huge grain of salt! The article says EB has it listed for 6/30/06 too.

Hypothetical reaction of a Sony fan to this hypothetical release date: "Yay! I'm preordering my PS3 for its May release date!"
I don't buy any of this, but according to the previous news post, something Halo 3 related could happen tomorrow. Possibly somekind of announcement.

Yeah, so slow that anti-Xbox 360 stories (devs about lack of HDD) are being taken off the main page.
Business as usual here at EA.com.

Hmm. Yeah, I read that story and it had one good point. . . that without caching to a hard-drive, they could not do a flight simulator in that GTA knockoff, because the streaming would keep up with the rest of the game.
I wonder why they dropped the story. Maybe bad source material? I didn't look that far into it because so much of the crap about the next gen consoles is unreliable that I take most of it with a grain of salt.

Where did you hear this?
I have a feeling that Halo 3 has been in production for well over a year now. Even before Halo 2 was finished, most of the team was ported over to Halo 3. Plus, Halo 2's engine / map editor / etc could probably all be used to create Halo 3, I don't really see Bungie purchasing U3 or anything like that.
Anyone remember how many months they were in the "touching up" stage for Halo 2? It seemed WAY too long, from what I remember. If you think about it, most of the team had finished their portion (ex: level design, story, etc) many, many months before Halo 2 hit the streets.
I could see Halo 3 being released around the time of the PS3 launch, but I don't think it'll be as next-gen as it could be if they took a little more time with it. Halo is the killer app for Microsoft. They'll probably hire a shitload of people in order to hit that date. Initial cost goes way up, but think about how much they'll make in the long-run if they are pulling people away from the PS3 with this game?

While I agree, I think the main thrust of Halo 3 will consist of the same character models/vehicles/animation data as Halo 2, but make ten times the number of enemies/objects visible onscreen. Imagine instead of a single Warthog that Master Chief drives with two guys with him, how about MC leading an armada of Earth forces into battle. The 360 can handle quite a bit more processing of AI - here's hoping that they're able to put game logic/GPU control on one CPU core, physics on another, and AI on the third.
I wouldn't be surprised if all they did for Halo 3 characters was update the Halo 2 normal maps to higher resolution.

and this I stumbled across at Actiontrip.com saying PS3 will launch in Spring, my guess at least in Japan

The spring launch of the PS3 has already been confirmed in a Sony Press Release: (http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/200509/05-050E/) The first priority is the successful introduction of PLAYSTATION 3 next spring...
I think it is more likely if Halo will be co-releasing it will do so with the North American launch, whenever that might be. It will give Bungie a couple extra months, at least, to work on the game and allow it to be released closer to Christmas. Besides how many copies of Halo does MS expect to sell in Japan?
Oh, Halo 3 has been under development for a long, long time.

The spring launch of the PS3 has already been confirmed in a Sony Press Release: (http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/News/Press/200509/05-050E/)Without having a single playable game apart from the Gundam demo I really wonder what it'll ship with if it launches in Spring. I guess they'll throw whatever it is at us for the next E3.
For the Halo 3 thing. They only got something resembling final hardware recently so maybe they're swinging into full production at this point but I'm sure they had the game planned out for a while now and have been working on the engine and stuff.
Does anyone remember that demonstration where the master chief was involved in a UMSC drop and they described sniper teams running into position and all of that? (for Halo2) It would be cool if they actually managed to work a battle of that scale into Halo 3, since it wasn't in Halo 2.

90% of the features announced for Halo 2 didn't make it into the game.
