ATI (http://www.ati.com/) has released the newest drivers (https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&questionID=640) for it's video cards.
Here's the Release Notes (http://www2.ati.com/drivers/Catalyst_59_release_notes.html) for this release. As usual they recommend using their uninstall utility (http://dlmdownloads.ati.com.edgesuite.net/drivers/cat-uninstaller.exe) before intalling the newer drivers.
Also on the Ati's main page is a countdown to a big announcement that will commence in a little over 10 days. In the box is the physics equation: Distance divided-by Time = Velocity...
Interesting.

Oh this is easy. ATI is doing the Rev GPU, atleast the team with the real talent at ATI, ArtX. Rev supposedly has a PPU. This is clearly the introduction of the ATI's PPU solution that is going to end up in PCs and the Rev.

That's just crazy, and impossible. You're crazy, you crazy person you :).

Hrmm, I wonder how long it will take Omega to fix these?
They will announce the neural net processor.

The Omega drivers are already out for those who use them.
He skipped 5.8 completly, the last time he skipped a release was when he considered the next version (to which he is privvy as an ATI beta tester) to be much better.
I can't wait to hear what their special announcement will be, I love a suprise! :D

The special announcement is their next series of GPUs. The ones that were supposed to come out months ago.

They are announcing War on Mankind. I've already signed up for the ATI all-volunteer army. I'll be branded as a traitor, but to Hell with humanity.

Have they released those new GFX cards yet? R520 and what not?
Sounds more like some graphics thing since its velocity.

Er... In my mind, Velocity has more to do with physics than rendering polygons...

Yeah but they'll most likely go on about speed and velocity with the "fastest graphics" or whatever.
I don't really care either way though. I'm not getting a new gfx card yet (got a 7800 GTX not long ago) and until there are games that use them, and well, the physics cards are a complete waste. By the time games that use them well are out there will be better physics cards too.

If my X800 Xl lasts me till next summer or so I'll be happy, as for announcments it'll probably be a PPU. Free pot for Canadians wouldn't impress us, if you live on a lake would you be impressed by water?

If it is a PPU built in, I must say that I here for announce that I am infact psychic, and ask all other mere mortals refer to the previous Revolution thread to read the part where I said the only way a PPU makes sense is built into the GPU!
Im not gloating... honest.
Again, the news could be pure shit, like announcing bejewelled is bundled with each new radeon.

Hmm, I wonder if this Omega release is X64 compatible... I'd like to switch back to Omega.

Guys, I'm telling you, they're going to announce their new card line, and probably the availability of said cards that day. They have to. The R520 is so late at this point, it's almost silly to release it at all. Early adopters already have their Nvidia 7800s.

Honestly though, who can afford the newest cards? The cost as much as a reasonable PC.

ATI still owns Nvidia.
I used to be an Nvidia fanboy but now all I care about are benchmarks vs. dollars.
EDIT: 9600XT still plugging away...

ATI still owns Nvidia. That's a dumb thing to say. Keep in mind, I prefer ATI to Nvidia myself, but that's still a dumb thing to say. ATI and Nvidia are constantly trading positions at the top of the video card heap, and that's great for consumers.
And the big announcement is: free penauts bundled with every card... Not just R520!
You can take that for sure: my source is a monkey in ATi's lab...

I don't know about the actual graphics cards (I'd say they're extremely close) but Nvidia make way better drivers than ATI.
I had a Geforce card before I upgraded recently and they were always improving the performance of the card using the drivers.
Catalyst driver updates are usually finicky little fixes and its a lot more work updating them each time. Everytime I upgrade it switches the Overdrive system off.

[/I]
Shouldn't that be displacement divided by time = velocity ;)
Distance divided by time = speed
(I sure hope I'm remembering this correctly and not just making a right arse of myself)
Wombat

You're right. Velocity is a vector, it includes information on speed and direction travelled. Distance has no directional value, so you just end up with speed.

I don't know about the actual graphics cards (I'd say they're extremely close) but Nvidia make way better drivers than ATI.This is also incorrect. About the only thing Nvidia drivers have over ATI drivers is Linux support.

Wonder if they named it X1k instead X1000, so that people wouldnt compare it to the 7800 and think it's slower...
Varsity
09-25-2005, 03:44 AM
Yes, they probably did. Same trick as Xbox 360.
Hmmmm... The top card of the new Radeon range will most probably be named X1800XT (R520), with mid and low product X1600 (R530) and x1300 (R515).
This has been known for quite some time.
Not a real surprise then... I hoped for something a bit more flashy!

Man.. ATI always announces their big secrets ahead of time. Then they announce that they'll talk about their secret eventually.
Then finallythey announce that they are going to expose their secret.
Then they announce that the secret is a new video card!!!!!
Wow, hot damn, I never would have guessed.

Heh, I'm just young with too much money and few financial obligations. When 80% of your income is expendable being able to turn the graphics up from high to very high is just too attractive to pass up.

I had a geforce, got a radeon then ran back to the geforces. Catalyst really sucks, Forceware is a lot better. And that has no relation with linux support.
But actually Intel pwns both nVidia and ATI, with their extra-mega-crappy IGPs.
