We don't need any quotes here, do we?

Is that really a new article?

"Prototypes of PS3 will also be showcased at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the world’s largest interactive entertainment exhibition held in Los Angeles, from May 18th to 20th."

E3 will be held at May 10-12 next year.

How quickly people forget that Sony announced this at the same conference they announced the system. In big letters on the projector.

Does this give the MS Dell Dimension too much of a lead on the Sony Grill, or will this be too little of a lead to persuade people from holding off until the Nintendo DVD player? Time will tell.

My guess: People who get a 360 will have invested far too much to get a PS3 at launch. Those who tried to hold off will be irked slightly by the time and succumb to purchasing the neXtbox. I highly doubt this will prevent the PS3 from setting record numbers, but it will help Microsoft somewhat. At this point I truly believe Nintendo's claim that they are not competing for the same user base as MS and Sony. In fact, I think the Revolution may turn the type of gamers the new big 2 are courting - though it is highly possible that if properly marketed the controller will attract new customers, though perhaps not the hardcore type that push games out the door.

See? I can be serious too - just not as fun. Instead, I direct you to the following:

OMFG!!! SONT gunna be pwnzor by Halo2!!! Newbie sticks spew forth n00b sause@

Hmm... I was suspect about the newness of the information...

Looks like the dating of E3 pretty much proves that it's old news.

Sony has said PS3 spring but the assumption is that is just Japan. It's late 2006/early 2007 for North America, and Europe. Look how long it took to get the PSP to Europe.

I'm with you on this. Sony's in an unaccustomed spot and under a ton of pressure from MS and 360. It's pretty obvious they're in scramble mode, and never originally intended to launch in '06.

They still don't have any real gameplay demos - and it was stunning that they couldn't pull anything together for TGS. Everything is either mind-blowingly cool pre-rendered stuff (ie, fake), or painfully obvious real-time game code (Gundam demo). The MGS trailer was impressive (and real-time), but it's also only a movie rendered in the game engine - no game play, no AI, no physics, etc. I have no doubt the real game will look good - but it won't look that good, and it's telling that they didn't show that off.

The gist of my point is that Spring is a BS date - but most people know that. It's an attempt to try and keep some people on the edge and not picking up a 360 this holiday. However, "Spring" really means the following:

June/July launch for PS3 in Japan only (so Summer)

Fall launch in US - think September

And yet again, Europe will take it in the shorts and not get it until the following Spring/Summer of '07.

Flame away and/or disagree. But consider I'll pre-order the box day one (just as I did the 360 and will Revolution). I'm just continually surprised by people's inability to see through Sony's manipulations.

This story predates E3.

I do expect PS3 to launch in the US by Christmas '06, though.

I really don't see it launching in that time frame, there's just not enough done for them to launch that quickly, unless they plan to launch with 3 golf games, 2 puzzle games, and 3-D Tic Tac Toe. I do hope Sony reconsiders and in the final design gets rid of that damn useless slot-loading drive, those drives are notoriously unreliable and more often then not end up scratching your discs.

Maybe you are right. Maybe they will lunch its console with only a few games.
Its possible. Take as an Example the PSP.

And I dont know how you all knew the date post E3 or a little later.
I must have missed it.
