1UP.com has some of the first details (http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3143595&did=1) on the coop-play in Stubbs the Zombie. The game is powered by the Halo engine which had kicking coop, and it looks like Wideload has built on it.
There's also a video (http://www.1up.com/do/download?cId=3136244) of the coop play.

I can smell my own palpable excitement, and it is RIPE!
Gameplay looks interesting but the video itself looks washed out, everything is brown. Was it filmed with a video camera pointed at the screen?
I guess this will appeal to people who like playing the evil, bad skinned, corpse eating character. Me.. I like my games with sugary rainbows and pandas. More games with pandas please.

This is a serious question: does an engine determine if co-op will play well?

It determines the rough level of difficulty involved in implementing co-op.
Take an engine built with co-op in mind, and tacking a co-op mode on to your own game will be significantly easier.
Particularly if you're talking about co-op over LAN/Live.

Yes, but considering this game is built on the Halo engine, I doubt that there will be any major problems.

Keep in mind that Halo didn't really have co-op. Halo had split-screen co-op, which isn't the same thing as doing co-op over Xbox Live.
It was the PC version of Halo, created by Gearbox Software that promised internet co-op. I really don't remember if it was included in the final version of the game or not.
