The short of it. Three costumes (5 color variations each) - 200 points a piece for Ninja Gaiden 2. The real deal is, it was posted before on the GamerscoreBlog (http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2008/05/08/559028.aspx) that the entire pack of costumes would be 200 points. Now that price is triple.

So what happened? Who in their right mind would still pay for this stuff? Could this have anything to do with the Tecmo lawsuit (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54452)?

From Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/02/ninja-gaiden-2-horse-armor-now-on-sale/)

Saw these. Thought fuck them. 600 Points for 3 freaking costumes. MS really needs to talk to these people.

Will they never learn? MS should have given Tecmo "pricing guidance" on this one. :)

Yeah. This shit should be free. Way to treat your customers.

Yeah I forgot about the price increase. Tecmo did say all 3 were going to be 200. MMmm i'm a major NG fan, I will try and resist the urge to buy these :(

I would have probably bought all of them for 200, but 200 each is not gonna happen. The fiend armor is badass though.

Fuck 'em. If you don't want it don't buy it. It will send enough of a message if they only sell a few hundred of these things. I rarely buy add-ons anyway, so i still probably wouldn't have gotten it if it was 200. 600...not a chance in hell.

If you buy costume packs for any game you're part of the problem.

Eh, whatever. If it makes you happy, go for it. The market will decide if it's too much. Unless they were free, they'd be too much for me (add-ons need to do something besides look pretty to be worth $$ to me), but I'm just one voice in the screaming tide we call capitalism. ;)

I think they just decided that the market will bear the price.

So there.

Correction, that's 600 points for 3 costumes with 5 color variations each! That's like 15 costumes ;)

Can we call the horse armor incident one of the milestones in gaming business practices of the past several years? It certainly has become part of the vernacular whenever we refer to pay DLC that either has no value or has a price far exceeding its value, and I think the stigma of that first encounter is part of the reason that we see less of this practice than we do.

Were there to be an MGS4 pack though....

This looks even worse for Tecmo considering the timing - UbiSoft just released a FREE map pack update for Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

For costumes? Yeah, anyone buying that crap should be smacked.

A pack that makes Ryu look like Snake, Ocelot, or Sunny? Awesome!
I know that's not what you meant, but it would kind of be cool.

Have you seen that gay ass Jag costume of Ryu's? The one you get for beating Mentor?

I, uh, was referring to horse armor for MGS4.

I'm still working my way through warrior. Taking my time.

Yeah, it's basically Tecmo saying "We believe a significant percentage of our customers are fucking retards".

Uh, MS actually WANTS this stuff. Because they get a cut off everything.

Take that away and the Xbox is just another money loser. Which is not what MS wants.

But the hardware has been profitable for a while now

*sigh*

Do we really have to go through this every time a game company decides to release overpriced DLC?

Just don't buy it

I know, But 600 points come on. NG is probably the most hardcore gamers game available on the system. Wanna rip off their most loyal users is not the way to go. If EA did it, fine. But this is a MS published game.

How much is 200 points in real money?

iamkevin
07-03-2008, 11:52 AM
it's just gamerpictures and themes for Ninja Gaiden 2. It's not like it affects the gameplay in any way, like the horse armor did. You're not buying a cheat/upgrade, just a different look.

Don't buy it, if you don't want it.

Like $2.50

All 3 costumes with the variations should have been one pack. 400 points, tops. I'm sure most people could swallow 400 points for 15 costumes.

While this is undoubtedly daft as a brush, dafter still will be the people who actually pony (get it?) up for this.

$2.50! ZOMG, I could buy a shitty 15 second clip of a Ludacris song to use as my ringtone, a small shot of swill from Starbucks, 5 tracks from a jukebox, a greasy burger from McDonalds or a whole 3/4 gallon of gas with that money!! The bastards! But seriously, while I wouldn't buy this shit if someone wants to more power to them, it's their money so we don't get a say. Get back to me when they want to sell you the ending or a patch to make the game not crash every 5 minutes, until then people need to learn that just because someone is selling it doesn't mean you are compelled to buy it and need to whine to the world about how evil all paid DLC is.

I was cool with all the costumes being 200 points but 200 a piece is fucked. They dont add shit to the game. I could see if they did something to affect gameplay but they dont. They probably had that shit lying around anyway. There were supposed to 5 different 3 piece sets .. WTF!

Don't go back on your word fucking word!

If you dont know how much you want to charge then dont say shit until you figure it out! Duh!

TECMO=lying cocksuckers

If it is, it's not by much. With the price drop coming, that profit is gone.

I bought it. I couldn't resist, sorry guys. You can change your costume every time you load up a game. Great stuff.

I'm happy. :)

Nobody's saying $7.50 is a lot of money. However, these are costumes, these used to be unlocks. The game doesn't even have multiplayer to show off your costumes or distinguish between you and 15 other players.

While it's not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, it is a lot of money for 3 models.

At least the horse armor kept your horse from dying.
