Day of Defeat: Source Palmero Update + Free Weekend

DODS has been brought in-line with the Orange Box. The new update (http://steamgames.com/dod/palermo/) ports the game over to the new multi-threaded engine, introduces Steam Community features including achievements and statistics, brings over TF2's nemesis/revenge system and death freezecam and comes with dod_palmero, formerly known as the 3rd-party map dod_salerno.

There's also a Free Weekend starting tomorrow to showcase the new features to all and sundry. You can start preloading the game with this link (steam://preload/300) if you have Steam installed.

I'll be checking this out finally. I was a huge DoD fan ever since beta 1.0 came out in early 2001 and played a few years pretty actively.

zomg. I don't play DoD really anymore.. but EVERYBODY is complaining. Because they put TF2's revenge/domination stuff in, including the kill cam (shows person who killed you and where they are)

I played the beta a bit. The achievements suck. Nothing like TF2.Kill 1000 people with this rifle. Kill 1000 people with thie one... kill 1000 people using this class..

There's a small handful of achievements that are good such as "Win a knife fight", kill 4 people with 1 grenade, etc. etc.

Overall, I don't care for the update much.

Woo.. No bots.. Valve can't do anything right. I mean my friends and I use to play DOD like crazy. But It seems like Valve buys everything and hardly supports their products.. Except for campy fucking ones that are boring as shit(TF2, Sorry guys) DOD was a great MP guy, fun kills, fun maps. Fucking Valve goes and ruins that. I loath Valve so much. Worst company I've ever seen.

lol I just played 2 rounds and somehow the game didn't change a bit since I played it a year ago or so.

Can't see why one should actualy complain about the deathcam. If you aren't a total newbie you know the sniper places anyway. Though it's not near as good as in TF2...

Is it cheating to play the class with the heavy machinegun and use a mouse with DPI you can adjust on the fly so that when you setup the gun you can aim just as quickly as any other gun?

Since DoD:S was released it has been crystal clear that it is *not* just an adaption to source. They changed the gameplay (honestly in a very good way) pretty much and you're complaining *now* 2, 3, 4 years later?

Do you really expected they change the game back to what DoD once was or what?

Well I haven't played the update yet, but I'll probably give it a spin tonight. I always loved DoD:S. Good stuff. I dunno if adding a bunch of rah-rah for the revenge/domination stuff was a good idea... you're generally aware of that already, so I don't think we really needed a bunch of fancy-pants graphical flash for that in THIS game, but.. whatever.

I'm not too bothered by the changes thrown at us in this update. I don't think the kill cam really fits in a WWII game. I do like updated graphics and achievements though. This update has really upset a large portion of the dod regulars. Those that play "realism" clans have had absolutely nothing nice to say about this update. I'm kind of surprised VAVLe brought this out of beta so soon. I guess they needed to hit the 4th of July weekend for maximum PR.

I never really dug DoD:S unless it was on a good realism server. I was very dissapointed with it after playing original DoD from beta. I'll give these changes a try, but it seems like they are going in the wrong direction. I want more realism, not more arcade. (read: I want guns that kill with one or two bullets at most, tight shot groupings and lower run speed)
