Comic Day. You may not like it, but you will learn to love it. Click here (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1533013) to join the discussion, or here (http://www.previewsworld.com/public/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=6&s=430&ai=71895) to see what will be in stores this week.
This week, on the indomitable Johnny Gigawatt & the Tiger Men from Mars (http://johnnygigawatt.com) we make fun of crazy people and discuss the happenings from this weekend's convention in Chicago.
Picks of the Week
Astonishing X-Men #25 - Another week, another hotly anticipated X-Men book. Warren Ellis and Simone Bianchi take over the reins of Mervel's highest profile X-Book, and the early results look amazing. While the core cast differs a little from Whedon and Cassaday's run, the book will still be somewhat disconnected from the main continuity, meaning new readers can jump in without worrying about what's happening elsewhere. Ellis has written some of the most entertaining books at Marvel the past few years, and I assume this one will be just as good.
Squadron Supreme #1 - Another relaunch of what is essentially Marvel's take on the Justice League. The previous series, written by Joe Straczynski started out great as Supreme Power under the mature-readers MAX imprint, but it lost a lot of steam when it moved to the more T-rated confines of the regular Marvel imprint. This new series, written by Howard Chaykin and drawn by newcomer Marco Turini, looks to be giving the Supreme Power treatment to some classic Marvel characters this time around, and the results look interesting.
GI Joe Americas Elite #36 - The end of the superb World War III story, as well as the last issues of Devil's Due Publishing's run with the property. The story encompassed pretty much every Joe you ever knew, and many more you didn't, and was truly epic in scope. The Joes are moving to IDW later this year, just in time for their 2009 live-action debut on the big screen, and we don't yet know whether or not they're going to retain the continuity (which stretches back to the early 80s Marvel days) or reboot the property, so this should be a big send-off.
Question of the Week - Marvel added another Young Gun to their stable this week with the announcement that Jonathan Hickman will be writing a post-Secret Invasion title called Secret Warriors. That brings us to this week's question: Who is your favorite young talent in comics?
