IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/652/652541p1.html) has the scoop of a possible Ikaruga sequel coming to the XBox 360.The Xbox 360 won't be without its shoot 'em ups -- that's for sure. Treasure, the maker of Radiant Silvergun, widely regarded as one of the greatest shooters ever created, has announced that its top secret Xbox 360 project is an original shooting game. The game is currently without a release date.
"Original" would suggest that we can count out Radiant Silvergun 2 or Ikaruga 2. Also, given the company's recent admissions in an interview with IGN, a 2D sprite-based game is out of the question. However, a game featuring 2D gameplay and 3D visuals -- not unlike Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun -- might be on the mark.
I LOVE these kind of games.

just picked up Ikaruga for the GC for $5. Top down shooters are still a blast to play.

Doesn't the quote contradict the title of the post directly?

Have you ever played Ikaruga for Gamecube? How about Gradius V for PS2? I know you're a Xbox fanatic, but if you love these types of games I hope you own a system other than an Xbox right now....

Wah? That game is super expensive and hard to find...I've been looking for it but they're all more than $50 for used copies. Where did you find it?

I LOVE watching crazy closeted kids play these games and get perfect scores.
I HATE playing them myself :)

Yes and Yes. I've had all the systems this generation. Also been playing Nanostray on the DS. All are good, but nothing tops Raiden II yet. :)
And yes, I meant spirtual successor...

Lucky man. I had to shell out about $50 Canadian for my copy (last one I could find at the time).

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..................
Not the 360. Treasure, don't weaken my faith. Microsoft offers me no incentive to buy this system and then you have to come along and do this.

Then you're missing some good titles. I always wondered why some people don't own certain systems. I've found it hard to not own nearly all of them for the past 20 years...barring a 3DO and Jaguar of course.

The Genesis is great for SHMUPS, especially mega drive games. They still regularly come out on DC which is good. Gradius V was fantastic, R-Type Final was a little boring.

As much as I love Ikaruga I really do consider Gradius V to just have the edge. Not that it matters too much, both titles are exceptional.
As I pick up my 1080i widescreen tonight in preperation for the Xbox 360 launch (although Australia has to wait til next year unless I decide to import which is unlikely :() the news that Treasure is working on a game for the system makes me all happy and grinny. :D

I had slightly the opposite reaction. Gradius V rocked, but once I completed it, I never touched it again. R-Type Final made me keep playing to unlock ships, and find all the alternate levels. Pity the frame-rate in R-Type Final was so flakey...

Hello?? Treasure is a company formed by EX-Konami employees where they vowed to never make sequels.
They are about to start doing sequels, as Sin and Punishment II was recently confirmed under development. This may in fact be it.
Also, the title of this thread is misleading and nonsensical.

They made Gradius V, or were you talking about sequels to their own original IPs?

And I'd say Advance Guardian Heroes and Gunstar Super Heroes qualify as sequels. The old "no sequel" rule no longer seems to apply at this point. I'd love a real sequel to Radiant Silvergun.

Yeah, I just recently picked up a copy on eBay for a little over $35. Though, it was in almost brand-new condition.
I can't believe someone found it for $5, thats crazy.

Radiant Silvergun was only released in the arcades and the Sega Saturn.
And seriously, why the misleading news title, especially if the newspost debunks it?

Hehe.. yes true.... I have it for Saturn. The game has such amazing graphics that I thought it was for the DC :) My mistake....

Just for the record, Treasure had said lots of times that the "no sequel" rule was a misquote. What they actually meant was that they wouldn`t work on a sequel unless all the original team were onboard as that was what gave most of their games whatever chemistry they had.

oh boy oh boy oh boy!
I bought Ikaruga day one and eventhough I've yet to get even close to finishing it... awesome game! Can't wait to see what Treasure will cook-up for the 360.
