The good people over at TeamXbox (http://www.teamxbox.com) are reporting (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/9311/2K-Sports-Teams-with-Nike-for-NBA-2K6/) that 2K Sports and Nike have entered into an agreement to make the upcoming NBA 2K6 that much more authentic.

"The relationship between 2K Sports and Nike is about the natural union of two leading brands synonymous with sports, competition and innovation," said Erik Whiteford, vice president of marketing, 2K Sports. "Through this relationship, our aim is to deliver a truly unique basketball experience that taps into the intense passion and energy of the sport."
Could be interesting if it's done in a tasteful manner!

i.e. "we're going to scr*w all of the gamers over by making YOU pay for OUR commercials!!"

I guess that's one way of looking at it. Me, I'd much rather wait and see how it turns out before decrying the glass half-empty.

there's only 2 possibilites here;

1) nike's commercials in the game will be used to 'subsidize' the game and the per-copy price at retail will then be cheaper, or

2) 2K Sports is going to keep the extra profits (the marketing department needs bigger boats) and shove the commercials down your throat.

Judging by the quality of the 'industry', i'm betting on 2 :)

Didn't EA buy the rights to the NBA's player names?

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume that you're being sarcastic.

Are you forgetting that Sega/2K Sports released every one of their 2K5 games at the wallet-friendly price of $19.99?

Did you read the news story? Shoes, man - SHOES!

Nope. The NBA decided against an exclusivity deal, much to my relief.

Does this announcement represent the beginning of the end for the Tiger Woods series? The Nike logo is tattooed all over that "franchise". Isn't Tiger/Nike a bundle package?

Basically all this means is they'll have licensed shoes now, which is something fans of the series have been asking for for ages.

Don't ask me WHY they've been asking for it for ages, I'd much rather see the resources spent on other aspects of the game but whatever. It's still the only game I can pick up and play anytime and never get bored of it.

no.

Tiger is hugely sponsored by nike but that is a golf line as well as a tiger line. The shoes mentioned in the article are all bball shoes anyways, so Tiger would not be remotely associated with any items in the game. Remember, nike owns tiger-not tiger owns nike.
