View Full Version : Weekend Gamer: What are you playing?

Summer is in full force! In Arizona, the heat is upon us and the only way to stay cool is to play games. With that said, I plan on some CoV, Neverwinter Nights 2, and some Wii. What will you be playing this weekend?

06-27-2008, 07:17 AM
EVE Online, Age of Conan, TF2 and other random titles. Might try to get more done in S.T.A.L.K.E.R., too.

I'll be flying R/C airplanes with the family, but I'll have the PSP with me for this trip. Maybe some Wild Arms XF, Dragoneer's Aria, and Crisis Core.

I'll be playing "tear out carpet and paint walls" in the house we just closed on Wednesday. When I actually get a chance I'll be digging into some Disgaea 2 and hopefully I'll get back into Bioshock a bit. I'd absolutely love to get in some FFXI but I have a hard time seeing that happening this weekend.

I've gone back to Titan Quest + Expansion. I'm in Greece on Epic adventure.

I'll be playing Ninja Gaiden 2, GRID. Slowly going through both games. Probably a bit of COD4.

Just bought C&C 3 Kanes Wrath today. I'll be playing that too.

I just finished TWEWY this morning, so I can finally pop that cart out of my DS for a bit (though I will come back to it for some of the awesome post-game stuff).

I've got about 4-5 weeks of downloadable Professor Layton puzzles to catch up on, so I'll give those a crack. I'm also snagging FFTA2 today and that should keep me busy.

In 'real console' news, I'm getting close to the end of Act 4 of MGS4, so I'm going to keep plugging away at that over the weekend and see if I can't wrap it up before the beginning of July. I really want to a) see the redacted entries in the MGS Database and b) play some of the other PS3 games I bought a few weeks ago when I grabbed the system.

I'm also going to see Wall-E at least once this weekend. I'm trying to coordinate a rendezvous with my wife on her way home from work so that the whole family can go see it this afternoon. If it's 8 kinds of awesome (which I hope it is), I might even sneak the boy out to see it a second time this weekend.

I might tinker away at some Space Invaders Extreme or MGS: Portable Ops or something this weekend too, but we'll see how things go. I have to work saturday and sunday, but that means I have Monday and Tuesday off. Woo!

Well, the GF should be coming up today, we're going to be watching the Evil Dead trilogy, and maybe some other stuff. Tomorrow we're going to go see Wall-E. Outside of that, I'll be playing City of Heroes, Space Invaders Extreme (way cooler than you'd think), and I might start up Xenogears.

Ehm, don't know really.

Finished MGS so I'll wait a little with that. Some GTA4. Maybe start up something else. Oblivion for the heck of it.

I'm a late comer to Trackmania Nations United, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. In between TM Nations time, I'll probably play some Red Orchestra.

It's also my wife's birthday this weekend, so I need to spend some time with her. In other words, I'll probably have to play some WoW :)

The release of the new HD 4870's inspired me to go back an tweak the overclocks on my CPU and GPU (boosted my 3D Mark '06 score from 7200 to over 10K!). So I'll probably be revisiting some PC games to see how they're running on the system now, most likely starting with Company of Heroes. I've also got plans to play some NG2 which has been sitting unplayed in my 360 for far too long.

I think I'll finally play through Tomb Raider: Legend this weekend. I've had it on the shelf for a very long time and haven't gotten more than 30 minutes into it.

Last night after I finished playing through Conan (fuck the last boss), I found myself wanting to play a really slow paced game where I could just relax, plan what to do and take my time. I realized I don’t really have any games like that to play through. I mean I’ve got to finish GTA4, The Darkness, DMC4 and a bunch of others all along the same lines. I’m thinking I might try and get Civ Revolutions through my Goozex queue to try and fill that void, but I’m open to suggestions otherwise. I actually just ended up playing Catan over Live after I couldn’t find a game of Carcassonne.

Probably going to spend a fair amount of time clearing out the hose for a real estate agent to come in and look the place over. I'm not too excited about our chances in the market right now, but if we can move the place to a developer for the large property we have, that's an option.

Spending a lot of time killing demons and zombies in Hellgate: London. My son was messing around with it while I've been at work. He liked it so much that he went out and grabbed his own copy. I've been playing the SP side of it, but he suggested that we hit the MP servers and play co-op and see how that goes. Father/Son bonding FTW!

Might play around a bit with Darwinia. Played the demo back when it first showed up on Steam and I just picked up the retail box at half-Price Books for $5.

I beat the absolutely fantastic TWEWY last weekend.

This weekend, it's all FFTA2 time. 6 hours into the game, it's exactly what I was hoping it would be.

I'm going to spend the weekend playing with my new PS3. I've got MGS4 and Uncharted to start up and I have Ratchet and Resistance coming in from Gamefly.
I will probably just spend hours playing through Super Stardust HD instead.

It's all about the DS this weekend. I'll be definitely be playing Guitar Hero: On Tour (I'm on the last tier of songs on Medium), Professor Layton (I just started, and I'm loving this game), and Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (haven't started yet, but I played the demo a few times). And, if all goes well, I'll add FFTA2: Grimoire of the Rift, Contra IV, and Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard to that list. Hopefully the other Toys"R"Us in town has a little bit more in stock in terms of DS games. ;)

Working my way slowly through the DS backlog. This weekend it's Sonic Rush, and it's great...a fast Sonic game without fishing minigames or any of that crap. I think I'm getting close to the final final boss, but I'm not sure. After that, maybe some Apollo Justice.

And I STILL need to start MGS4, but I've had a weird, irregular work schedule, and I just can't find the time. Some time next week I'm going to carve out a Metal Gear day.

Hmm...Lost Oddessy halfway through game i think...i should have plenty of time to finsih that up since i am being laid off from my company because we were acquired by JP Morgan (the EA of the banking world).

How come i couldn't be laid off in Oct/Nov when all the nasty games are coming out...oh well it gives me more time to find work I guess.

Just bought a PS3, so I'll be playing Motorstorm and hopefully another game I buy tonight (and some PSN titles perhaps). The rest of the titles that came with the system I bought are shit. Sleek system, I dig.

Probably tons of GTA4 (getting to the end I think!! and I love it), Mass Effect which I've just barely started (tried to make a custom character that resembled me, but it kept coming out looking Asian), and DMC4. Mass Effect and DMC4 I just received on Monday and haven't had a chance to play.

Looks to be a good weekend!

I'm going to play some more EndWar beta matches (aweseome, BTW) and get further into MGS4.

I might also dip into some more Boom Blox if I get a chance.

MGS4!Do it!

I've bought so many games lately, a $60 purchase would make my girlfriend kill me in my sleep. Something out for a while, cheap, would be much better. Going to Target tonight to check out clearance. Will pick up Lair for $15 if it's still there, maybe some other titles if I am lucky enough to score some cheap ones.

Thing is, I bought a ton of Folklores back in April and traded them away for 360 titles. I wish I had kept a copy for myself. :( Also, I saw a bunch of PS3 Logitech wireless keyboards clearanced for dirt cheap. Yeah, again, had I known I would own a PS3 a few months later, I would have snatched up one of those too.

Grrr.

No no no no no and a thousand times no! If you're really curious about Lair, make a PSN account for Hong Kong or Japan (nice to have anyway) and download the demo. It's an awful awful game that nobody should have to pay for.

If you want something good and PS3 specific go for Uncharted, Ratchet, or Resistance, but not Lair. Not if you like good games, anyway.

I'd like to spend some quality time with MGS4 (just started Act 3). Other than that, maybe a little Enemy Territory or GTAIV. Possibly some Warcraft 3. More than likely some lawn-mowing.

I saw that the price of The Witcher dropped down to $40 so I picked it up to check out over the weekend. Other than that I plan on playing some BF BC on 360 and of course more AoC.

I managed a free copy of Lost Odyssey recently (no, it wasn't a five finger discount) so that will probably get a bit of play time this weekend. It's hard to find that kind of time for a game any more. If I can't get the TV free I will probably load something from the backlog on my PC. I am thinking Neverwinter Nights because of the recent Penny Arcade DnD podcasts (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/rsspodcast.xml), but doing two fairly long RPGs simultaneously seems like a really bad idea.

On a side note I am reading Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon (http://www.amazon.com/Cryptonomicon-Neal-Stephenson/dp/0060512806/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1214598961&sr=8-1). This book is massive and I am really enjoying it. I like to torture myself with starting things that take forever to finish.

PS3:
More MGS4: - I'm slowly (very slowly) working my way though ch 3.
Depending on my mood and time I might also:
Continue on GTA4 (360) and R6LV-2 (maybe someday I'll complete the lone wolf mission....it's a killer.)
If I get PSP time:
GoW

I also just picked up MGS Essentials and I'd like to check them out as well as my first blu-ray...the 5 disc Blade Runner collection (for less than $20)

Kel, don't waste your money on Lair. Put that $15 towards MGS4 or something good. Unless you're a HUGE fan of the Rogue Squadron style of game (it really feels like you're playing Rogue Squadron with dragons instead of X-Wings... and not in a good way), stay far, far away. At least they added controls that humans might actually want to use instead of Sixaxis.

I saw Wall-E this afternoon. I liked it but I think I was spoiled by Ratatouille. When Wall-E is good, it's VERY VERY good. Unfortunately, there were a few too many slow bits and the story wasn't developed nearly as well as even Cars, let alone Ratatouille.

But it was still a good movie and the little Presto short that was before it was awesome.

More MGS4, especially now since it's starting to get interesting. Might try WALL-E on PS3...depends how involved I get with MGS4. If really involved i'll be to lazy to switch discs...

@Spigot: Congrats on finishing TWEWY. I hope the ending was as good as I was claiming it to be...but the whole storyline really is complete when you do the files...which means more playing after the actual storyline is done...

My a-hole 360 is goofing off and locking up constantly, so Microsoft is sending me a box. Regardless, I'll be playing Battlefield: Bad Company and Alone in the Dark on that jimjam. I'm also rolling through Yakuza as my pile of shame game of the week. MGS4 still has me hooked too. I'd say I'll probably end up solving that 5 times or so before I'm able to take a legit break from it.
