A plethora of games this week. I mean, really, wow. What ever happened to the summer drought?

DS owners are going "On Tour" with Guitar Hero, while Wii owners finally get to "get the band back together" in Rock Band. There's literally a title on every platform that looks interesting. Plus we have WALL-E hitting the theaters as well as the movie tie in game.

I'm still playing "wait for my xbox" to return...

Alone in the Dark and Operations Darkness on Gamefly. I thought about GH for the DS but blowing into the mic...i'm passing. I want to play WALL-E cause I can't wait for the movie...

I'll be picking up Final Fantasy Tactics A2. The reviews have been positive so far, and I really liked the first FFTA game.

I can't wait to see WALL-E, either. I absolutely love Pixar movies.

It is interesting to note that Top Spin 3 for the Wii has supposedly full tennis controls when serving and hitting forehands and backhands. Could possibly be a good representation of the sport. I just found this out, so it went to the top of the Gamefly list along with the 360 version, dropping Bad Company and Alone in the Dark out at least temporarily.

It's all about the Tactics used when reading your Grimoire in an Advanced fashion somewhere near a Rift... hopefully for the Final time (though that's probably just a Fantasy).

Other than that, I wouldn't mind renting a few of the other games, like Alone in the Dark and Operation Darkness, though the reviews for both haven't been very kind.

It's all about the Wall-E this weekend though. I must find time to get myself and my kid out to it, if not over the weekend proper, then definately early next week.

I caught 10000 BC a few months ago with some friends. Its a perfect MST3K movie. I personally think its right up there with things like The Giant Claw and Giant Gilia Monsters that its so bad its funny. We were cracking jokes through the whole movie.

As for games, I am looking forward to Operation Darkness. Vampires vs Werewolves in a WW2 SRPG? Count me in.

I'll wait on some reviews for Battlefield Bad Company. I'm kind of on the fence about it since the past few Battlefield releases have been so-so. I've heard absolutely nothing good about Alone in the dark.

If I start hearing just amazing things from the people around here about Operation Darkness, I'll see about buying it (or at least looking for it once the price drops) but from what I've seen/read so far, it's pretty lackluster...

There isn't exactly a plethora of turn-based strat games on 360 to choose from, sometimes hunger is the best spice. If I didn't have a DS, I'd buy a DS and FFTA2 before I would buy Operation Darkness, perhaps something people might want to consider.

Rather than throwing away your $60 or so on a game that, from all appearances, is crap, just go out and get a GOOD SRPG for either the PSP or DS.

I do plan on giving Operation Darkness a rent and seeing if it's as bad as it's made out to be, but I couldn't justify dropping $60 on the thing right away until I've tried it.

I know what you mean. And in like 20 years it will be a classic terrible movie. But it's too fresh now to be even funny. I didn't laugh. Well okay I did. At actually watching till the end of it. Laughed at myself for wasting 2 hours of my life.

I've heard that the full game is much better than the demo, even if only because they don't throw you onto a massive map without a decent tutorial.

That said, I enjoyed the demo enough that I'd be willing to get the full thing at some point.

I may buy most of Atlus's games, but since I don't have a 360, that will save me the temptation of spending $60 on something that may not end up being that great (Operation Darkness).

So, count me in the FFTA2 & Wall-E crowd. Sounds like there are a lot of us. Though to be honest, the thing I'm really looking forward to this week is the new Futurama movie. Should be shipping any minute now from amazon.

From what I've read, it's more like FFTA than FFT, which is annoying. However, it sounds like it's a bit better than FFTA. We'll see.

I did in fact play the demo, and I enjoyed it. Production values have never been that big a deal to me, though. Unless the textures in a game a tearing, I pretty much pay no attention to graphics once I get to playing. I'm just crazy that way. For me to get into a game, it needs decent controls, decent gameplay, and a story I can get in to. That doesn't mean the story has to be good. I get as much out of a cheesy story as I do out of something epic. That, I believe, comes with being raised on movies like the before mentioned Giant Gila Monsters and Giant Claw.

As for FFTA2, well, to be honest, I never got into FFTA. I just couldn't bring myself to give a damn about the story or the characters in the game. It felt so 'meh' to me it got tossed aside and collected dust until I eventually traded it in. From everything I've seen about FFTA2, its more of the same, which means I'll avoid it.

I would rather have decent gameplay and a cheesy story than I would great gameplay and a 'meh' story.

I would say that if you have normal adult sized hands stay far away from GH: On Tour. I wish I could return mine.... I've played it for maybe a total of 2 hours, spread out over yesterday and today, and my left hand has never hurt so much from a peripheral device. Even hours after playing it I can feel the cramps in my fingertips... it's an ergonomic nightmare, and it likes to pop out of the DS forcing out to reboot. Kinds might love it and it may work well for them, but for adults the peripheral just doesn't cut it, and with no option to play without it, it's a dealbreaker.

It's a shame too, because the game captures the GH look, feel, and fun gameplay that would make it a great portable purchase otherwise.

True about 360 not having many turnbased strategy games, but I did have a surprising amount of fun with Band of Bugs. If you have a PSP I HIGHLY recommend Jeanne D'Arc to scratch that itch.

FFTA2 seems unnecessary to me. Sqaure-Enix limited the negative consequences of the law system, which was one of my favorite aspects of the first FFTA. I was overjoyed that I would need to re-think my approach to a battle depending on the laws governing that specific conflict. Usually, SRPGs become fairly monotonous a few hours in, as the player has developed a band of characters that simply need to repeat the same actions in every battle in order to succeed. That's the kind of stagnation the first law system prevented, at least in my eyes. Also, I have seen and heard a great deal of re-used assets in FFTA2 (Sprites, Music, etc.), which makes the game look like even more of a cash-in than it already is.

The only new game I'm buying this week is Gyrostarr. :)

And X-Com came out before Terror From the Deep and was a better game but I still had a blast playing Terror From the Deep.

If you can occupy yourself indefinitely with just one good game from each genre you are a lucky man who will save a lot of money. Probably make for a faithful husband too, ladies take note.

That's what I try to do, until another game in the same genre comes out that is superior. Problem is, there are so many genres nowadays that I still spend a ton of cash each week. However, ladies, I am available. :p

I wonder if it will be like Blue Dragon, which was still a crappy game (in my opinion) but was a lot better than the absolutely atrocious demo made it out to be.

Again, I'd wait till it's $30-40, but that's just me :)

Someone needs to cut out your tongue!

I think you need to go back to Blue Dragon and give it another spin. How far did you get in the game? I still can't believe you disliked it. It feels right up your alley. Still, the same could be said of me and Lost Odyssey. Ah well. :)

I spent 45 bloody hours with that game and got to the final disc and was still bored silly and just disgusted with myself for spending that much time with the game. I gave it a try. There were a few areas where it started to have a glimmer of being good and then it sank right back into mediocrity and crap again.

I had a blast with Lost Odyssey though, so Mistwalker isn't a complete wash in my eyes.

I did see Blue Dragon at the shop today for $15 used and for that price, I'd recommend it. I'm feeling the same kind of vibe from Operation Darkness. Part of me could probably enjoy it but I definately couldn't have a good time with it suffering from the buyer's remorse I'd have from dropping $60 on it. If it gets enough buzz around her (or I rent it and don't hate it) I could see myself snagging it in about 8-9 months for a $20-30, but not full price.

I've almost put my Blue Dragon loathing behind me... don't make me start up again!

I have started trying to resist games that I do want. I have been eyeballing Etrian Odyssey 2 for the past few days and it has taken all of my resolve not to rationalize dropping the $30 on it when I have actual things like vacations, child care and home renovations to save towards! Sigh.. responsibility is a pain...

I am getting FFTA2 though, as I just loves me my jobs!
