Lionhead Studios reports that the second game in the Black and White series has officially Gone Gold. The release date should be world-wide, and it's expected to ship to stores on Oct 4th.

Just follow the link (http://www.lionhead.com/bw2/bwgold.html)

I've been pretty jazzed about this one for quite a long time, and the previews released last week certainly make it sound very promising!

I played B&W a bit. IMO, it was too much work and too little fun. Hopefully the balance is better is more in fun's favor this time out, as the concept is cool.

Good lord, i just bought a new pc, and i can already see the hard drive filling up by the end of December. This game looks pretty sweet, i enjoyed the first one up until i got to some part where you creature got stolen by some other god, and just couldn't do it i was so dependent on the little guy! Anyway i'm getting this one.

You know what, Pete? I'm gonna give it a whirl. We've had a questionable past, big deal. We're going to try to make a go of it again. Don't listen to your friends, I won't listen to mine. I know my heart might get broken again...but I've got to try.

I've got to try.

This game still does not have a slated release date, and yet they change it every single time they make a new announcement. First it was a week before Europe, then it was the same day as Europe (Oct. 7), and now there's some kind of hogwash about receiving a special pet on Oct. 4 if you pre-order now.

So, what is it Lionhead?

Edited because I put "Sept." in instead of "Oct.", which was stupid because it is September.

Any way you slice it, if your dates are right then it's too late for any launch bonuses... :D

These guys have a long running history of getting it right second time around. I've every faith that they will achieve that here as well.

Rumor has it that there will be a demo coming out fairly soon as well. I'll probably wait for that before I preorder, but this game is very high on my list of those to get (along with Obsidian and F.E.A.R.).

Everyone who played the original B&W gets stuck at about the same place. My guess is that they paid particular attention to making the game winnable, as that's one of the biggest annoyances I can have with a game. Still, my six-year-old son loved the game immensely, probably due to the simple interface and ability to pretend he has far more control over the world than his fifty-pound body really has.

if you don't expect anything amazing, can it still disapoint?

My excitement for this game ended when I remembered the first one received amazing previews and reviews, but yet, no one mentioned the bug in the last level of the game that ruined your pet (shrunk it for the rest of the game) and made the game unbeatable (since the other god's pet was too big to fight when your pet had that permanent disease).

Then, it took them about 4 months to patch it. My money is staying in my wallet.

Man, they sure solved the "too much hype" problem. It's been nowhere near as over-hyped as the first one. I'm not sure if the final game will be great, but that's certainly a step in the right direction. To all the skeptics, just wait until the game's out and you can get a little info.

You obviously didn't see the onslaught of trailers that were released then, or the number of screenshot packages that have been coming out on a weekly basis. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all of the content that's being sent out... but you have to draw a line at some point or another.

If anything, B&W2 has been hyped up moreso than B&W simply because Lionhead claims that this is the game they originally intended on making. We'll be able to decide that once the demo is released the last week of September.

This is Lionhead's first sequel, so, um...

I think he meant Bullfrog. Didn't a lot of people from there migrate?

Yes, they did. But Bullfrog's sequels were rarely (if ever) better than the originals, IMHO.

Dungeon Keeper > Dungeon Keeper 2
Magic Carpet > Magic Carpet 2

I'm too tired to think of more examples.

Heck, I don't think Peter Molyneux was very involved in the majority of Bullfrog's sequels at all, which probably helps to explain why I preferred the originals.

Ah, Dungeon Keeper. I'm still tempted to go back and play Dungeon Keeper again, or perhaps make some DK-inspired mod. The combination of "you're the villain" and "build your own base" was a winning one. Evil Genius came close to catching that spark, but it somehow missed the mark.

I suspect that with B&W 2, the demo will help us all decide one way or another. That and some hands-on reviews, which I haven't seen yet. Only previews.

Evil Genius is cheap now I think I'll buy it now that you've said that, damn you, DAMN YOU!
