Worthplaying (http://www.worthplaying.com/) has posted some new screenshots (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=28355&mode=thread&order=0) of Castlevania: Curse of Darkness for your viewing pleasure.
Release Date: TBA (PS2 (http://www.gametab.com/ps2/castlevania.curse.of.darkness/3645/), XBOX (http://www.gametab.com/xbox/castlevania.curse.of.darkness/4274/))
The text and icons look blocky but aside from that I am looking forward to being able to finally play a Castlevania title on my Xbox.

Who let the Black Mage into the Castlevaina continuity?

Nice.... looking forward to trying this one. Always been a fan of CV. Better make sure it runs on a 360.

SIGh, crappy 3d again.
Castlevania should stick with 2D.

Agreed. I won't go into details, but the game does look like it was designed for the PS2 and will only be ported to the Xbox. Though to be fair, it's still got lots of development time left on it. Bad translations like "Innocent Devil" should really get fixed though before they go releasing screenshots like this. Personally I've never understood why Konami has had such a hard time taking this series into 3D, while all it's contemporaries made the change without issue. Ah well.

Yeah, give me a high-res 20 hour long 2d Castlevania and I'll be as happy as a pig in muck. SOTN is still a fantastic game so many years on.

I don't get it... the PSP is right there! A new SOTN level Castlevania would sell very well, I would think.

I *totally* agree with you.
For those like us who miss the Castlevania SOTN formula, pickup a gameboy advance and do Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Dissonance. They all are excellent.
There's a new one coming for the DS... it looks awesome... but im no "touch pad" fan for that kind of game... we will have to see how well (or bad) it will be incorporated in the game.

I'm glad they aren't, because it means I can hold off on buying a PSP a little longer.

it doesn't need to be on the psp, the ps2 would be just fine. Something along the lines and quality of paper mario on the gc would be cool. That was some nice high quality 2d art.

I hope this one has less clunky controls than the last one. Looking good though.

I have it. It's good.
Better than the GBA versions (it continues trhe story from the 3rd game) The touch screen use is actually pretty over-hyped, you only really use it to finish off bosses and a few puzzzles/extra attacks. For the most part it's your standard Castlevania tomfoolery. I do believe it had the same director as SOTN, but the depth of play and stuff to uncover aren't there, nor is it anyway near as long. By the time I was thinking "damn, this is good and I'm getting my hands on some good spirits/gear!" it was over.
Great fun while it lasted though.

Castlevania is always best served 2D. As was mentioned the best recent incarnations are the GBA versions, absolutely kickass.
I think the PSP deserves one as well (pretty sure it will get one day, CV seems to most platforms), there is always the DS version to look forward to - which is a must-have anyway; Dawn of sorrow, sequel to Aria of Sorrow on the GBA, if you played that one then you must get the sequel, or you are NO fan of Castlevania! :)

The PSP could mean the death of 2D games as we know them. With so many publishers and the public at large thinking that games HAVE to be 3D, the humble handheld was the last refuge of 2D. Now that handhelds can easily do 3D, I think we're going to see fewer and fewer 2D games.
It's a shame as Castlevania, Mario, Sonic and pretty much every beat em up series was better in 2D.

Why would they want to do a new 2D Castlevania on PSP when they're still releasing them over on the Nintendo handhelds? :)

Mario and Sonic (and even Castlevania, for that matter) are beat-em ups?

They made em for the ps1/ps2, why not the psp?

He means Mario + Sonic + assorted beat-em ups.

Castlevania and Contra are in the same boat; 2D Konami games that never work in 3D. The 3D Contras have all been abysmal, and I really wish they'd use the '2.5D' of Shattered Soldier for more games. The graphics can still impress, and the gameplay doesn't suffer. I hope this new Castlevania is good, but I really doubt it will be as good as Devil May Cry, which is stylish, fun, challenging, and thematically not that different from Castlevania.

Holy blocky-characters Batman. Really what is this a first gen title. Since I am a fan I will try this 3d travesty but my heart still lies in the 2d. The DS one is really looking good.

They made em for the ps1/ps2, why not the psp?
Only one 2D one for the PS1. I'm just saying that if they were going to make a PSP Castlevania, chances are it would either be a port of GBA/DS Castlevanias or a port of the PS2 ones. It doesn't seem likely they'd make a straight new one just for PSP.
And that makes MUCH more sense if he meant those games AND assorted beat-em ups. :p My bad there.
