As summer comes to an end, the gaming front really starts to heat up. This week there's a ton of good stuff for just about every system. X-Men 2: Rise of the Apocolypse hits multiplatform this week, if it's as good as the original it's a definite must buy. Battalion Wars hits the Gamecube, I got a change to play a little bit of this, it's another must buy for Gamecube owners. On PS2 we have We Love Katamari, the sequel to one of the most original and fun games to come out for any system this generation. Both handhelds get a handful of games as well.

Wow. There really isn't a lot this week in games that interests me, expect for Ultimate Spider-Man which looks promising. The same does for DVDs. On the music release front, I've got some buying to do:
Matthew Good - In A Coma: 1995-2005
Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo...
Cartel - Chroma
Nightmare of You - Self-Titled
Don't forget to watch Arrested Development tonight!

FYI: The Battlestar Galactica (Sci-FI Channel) Season 1 DVD set goes on sale Tuesday. This is not the stripped down Best Buy edition that went on sale last month, but rather the set that includes the mini-series, the commentaries, and the deleted scene material.
Just a heads up.

What is NWN: Kingmaker exactly? A new expansion?
Quite a few games I want this week as well. I'll be picking them up in a few months when they hit the 30 dollar mark.

Dragonshard is funny. I totally would have gotten it last week, or any number of weeks (months really) during the summer drought, but that shits over. I announced it officially over when Burnout: Revenge shipped.
I'll wait for it to price drop like other PC games since there are so many other titles I want first, and I'm still pretty busy with Burnout:Revenge.
I won't buy anything less than a AAA title that I'm all about before February, and Dragonshard doesn't make that cut.
In the meantime, I have to decide this week between "We Love Katamari" and "Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks". I'm waiting on Indigo Prophecy to find out how long it is and wheter or not it delivers on the cool and innovative bit that the demo showed throughout the entire gamee. If it is not just 10 hours long and others confirm that it is cool, I'll be getting it no matter what.
I guess there is one good thing about the summer drought and the fall crush. It sure does save me a lot of money.

Kingmaker is a boxed version of the Kingmaker module that Bioware has been selling online for the past year. You can download it for $8, or the stripped down (no voice acting) version for $6.
As for games this week, Genji, Indigo Prophecy, Ninja Gaiden Black (I can't get only to work on my x-box), Madden for the PSP, Ultimate Spiderman. This really, really makes me glad I use gamefly. Definately cheap to rent most of this stuff.

Hrm, looks like we're finally getting some interesting titles released this week.
Battalion Wars (GCN) - Too bad the big N has done jack to advertise this, as they'll be scratching their heads when it doesn't sell because noones heard of it.
We Love Katamari (PS2) - PS2 players will get their jollies off on this for weeks to come.
Fable: The Lost Chapters (PC) - Sweet, sweet candy. It's so expanded from the Xbox edition it's like playing a whole new game. I'm definitely going to grab a copy of this.
Ninja Gaiden Black (Xbox) - Another Ninja Gaiden to put hair on your chest. Or break your spirit.
Myst V: End of Ages (PC) - I'm sure someone out there still plays Myst. I've just never met them IRL.
X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (PC, PS2, GCN, Xbox) - More X-men goodness.
Ultimate Spider-Man (PC, PS2, Xbox, GCN, GBA) - Looks great. Will it be great though?
From the Earth to the Moon: Signature Series (DVD) - Are they serious? What in gods name else is there to include in this set? The first boxed set had something like 20 hours of extras.

I'm waiting on X-men Legends 2 before I buy. There is a rumor that Blink is one of the "secret" characters exclusive to either the PC or PSP... Hoping for the PC. Definetly not buying the console versions though. If it turns out that Blink isn't in the PC version, I'm just gonna go ahead and buy something else, like Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes, Battalion Wars, or Ultimate Spider-man.

This week demonstrates why it is about the time of year I need to start avoiding videogame stores. I never played through Ninja Gaiden, so Black is very tempting for me. I had a blast playing the first Xmen Legends co-op with a friend. The demos of both MK: Shaolin Monks and Indigo Prophecy were entertaining enough to intrigue me further. Hell even Batalian Wars and King of Swing hold interest.
Thankfully at least I have my 360 Paid off since I was trading in games, and putting money towards it in the slow summer months. But I have still limited myself to no more than $100 between now and the 360 launch. This is a "light" week compaired to what is coming, and that hundred bucks would still evaporate on contact in any electronics department.

Damn, so much I want yet so little money to buy it with.
Katamari, Ninja Gaiden, X-Men II, Ultimate Spider-Man... sheesh, and that is just a few. Think a lot of these are going to have to wait for a price drop, and Fable I want to pick up but because it will not run on anything my machine I will wait for the Xbox version; which is coming at $19.99 next month anyway. I am curious as to why Gametab is listing the price of some of these titles at more then what I remember announced as well. Katamari I heard was going to be a $19.99 title, not $29.99; same with Ninja Gaiden Black. I was holding off on buying Ninja Gaiden as the regular version is $29.99 as is.
Interested in Dragonshard, but yet another game I doubt this poor old man of a system can run. Ultimate Spider-Man I really want, but I think I can wait until a price-drop, same with X-Men Legends II.
After picking up Evil Dead: Regeneration, H2G2, a couple of the Highlander Series boxsets and a handful of various DVDs last week.. I really should not buy anything this week. Though, I feel like I deserve to treat myself considering I have not had a day off in over two weeks and none look likely in the near future.

Can someone please point me to or give a quick explaination of the difference between Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden Black (other than the addition of the word "Black"). More levels? Harder? Better Camera? Easier?
If my video card wasn't going through some kind of fit, I'd be picking up Fable: The Lost Chapters but, alas, it is so I'll just have to make due with the season premeire of Lost.

Black contains the main game plus the 3 downloadable Hurrican Packs that were previously only available on Live. They vary from a "director`s cut" of the original game with more weapons and different enemies to a stadium fighting mini game. They're all very different, and all hard as hell. I do believe there's a few other extras thrown in and a slight reworking of some of the graphics and camera.
I think this version also contains the Ninja Gaiden arcade game as an unlockable extra instead of the old NES1-3 from the original.

NG Black also has an easy mode in it, for those wusses who were unable to handle the real game. Or for the casual gamer who doesn't have the patience for a hard game. There's also a mission mode which is just a bunch of single map missions to play.

I could beat the bosses. . . but I hated the jump puzzles once you got to like level 5 (when getting around the city got hard).
Easy mode doesn't kill the jump puzzles though, so I'm not going to spend more money on it. I don't have the time to play a game that wants me to spend 5 minutes getting to a difficult jump and then makes me spend 5 more minutes retrying it if I fail the jump. Fuck a bunch of that. That's why I stopped playing all the Legacy of Kain titles and Tomb Raider games. I don't mind hard fighting, but I just won't play games that have unforgiving jump puzzles.

DOW: Winter Assualt is my must have but Fable, Farenheit and possibly Dragonshard all look good to me. Pity I'll have to wait a few more weeks down here in the 3rd world, but at least I know they are coming soon.
What I want to know is if Dragonshard sounds good, in the demo there were very few unit sounds, it was almost silent compared to WC3 or DOW; It may sound crazy but I keep going back to DOW and WC3 playing skirmishes, and what hooks me so much is, in a large part, the excellent unit sounds and even background 'ambient' noises. It adds so much character to the games.

But really, I feel so sorry for the IG. What, armor? No, you get swanky uniforms and lase pistols. Have fun!

Back in ye goode ole dayes there were things called side scrollers. They were 2D and they were fun to play. With both Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden being on the top of the list of "good side scrollers". More recently, the folks at Konami made a side scrolling version of Contra. It was hard (for me) but it brought back fond memories of ye olde side scrollers. Am I the only one who wishes they would remake a side-scrolling version of both Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden?
As for Ninja Gaiden Black. I tried playing the first version of that. It was hard. Very hard. I made it to the city where you have to fight some guy on a horse while you are on the ground. I know this is early in the game. Very early. I guess I'm just deficient in the skills required for this type of game. So I'm back to getting Fable.

Fucking tuesday. I'm having horrible flashforwards to November. It must be terrible to put two years of your life into a game and find out it's coming out the same day as 70 other games.
Still, some good stuff on there. Battalion (typo in your intro, bap, btw) Wars, Indigo Prophecy, Genji, DK, more Katamari, Shaolin Monks, etc. And to pay for them I'll be playing that old street corner game.

If it turns out that Blink isn't in the PC version, I'm just gonna go ahead and buy something else
So not being able to play one possibly unlockable character means you won't play ANY of them? In what could be, at the very least, the 2nd best X-men game EVER?!
I couldn't put off waiting for this game for something so frivolous to the overall gameplay.
Also have to get Fable, now that's so much more improved it's a definite must buy.
Ditto with Battalion Wars, was worried the transition would break it but it looks to have survived. It'll be good firing up the old 'cube again.

A friend of mine got Fable:Lost Chapters early and from what I saw there's very little new content, and it must mostly be at the end of the game too. The better resolutions are a plus. I'll be picking up Katamari, Genji, Dragonshards, and Indigo Prophecy this week. Maybe DoW:Winter Assault too.

Thanks for the tip on the NG boss battle Achilles, i'll try that out later, the only issue with that plan is i have to run back to a store and buy some god damn arrows, and anyone that has gotten to the area i'm at knows why i dread it. For the people that don't theres the most rediculously angering enemy in any game EVER! I call them the fish, basically one grabs you and then and then another i dunno 20 grab you and rape your health, so you have to mash certain buttons (i don't remember which ones), and then do ninpo (ninja magic) or whip out ur bladed nunchucks to beat them down. all in all...worst...enemy...ever.

Must have been mistaken on that one then. I swear I read Katamari was going to be a $19.99 title; which makes sense to me considering the original was as well.
Fable though, I do not get why they are releasing that on PC at $49.99 when next month it hits Xbox at $19.99. I would much rather have it on the PC considering the plethora of mods and such that will be released, but as I said above my rig sucks and I will not be able to run it. I am a sucker for Fable though, I really enjoyed the game even considering all its shortcomings and I will definitely pick up The Lost Chapters.

I dunno, I think the worst enemy ever is those stupid little silver things in Skies of Arcadia. They have no health and totally suck, except for the one spell that they cast all the time that, if it works (which it often does), just kills off the targeted party member. COMPLETELY. FUCKING. STUPID.
EDIT - Also, I have a question about Katamari. Is this game only going to be released in a very limited run like the first? I don't have a PS2 yet (holding out for the 100 dollar price tag that has to come sometime), but I bought the first game a week or so after it came out because of the very limited run. I might have to do the same here as well, unless they are actually going to keep printing discs this time.

What platform did you order Fahrenheit for, the PC?

EDIT - Also, I have a question about Katamari. Is this game only going to be released in a very limited run like the first? I don't have a PS2 yet (holding out for the 100 dollar price tag that has to come sometime), but I bought the first game a week or so after it came out because of the very limited run. I might have to do the same here as well, unless they are actually going to keep printing discs this time.
I don't see why it should matter. It's not like it's difficult to get a copy of the original despite it's limited run. In fact...

You can still buy it on Amazon new for 20 bucks and used for $15 or less.

Yes. Why?

No, I don't mean like the GBA/DS games. I mean a game like the example I gave in my post that you removed for your quote. Contra for the PS2 was a side-scrolling 2D game that was an example of what they could do for Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden.

Yes. Why?
Because I was curious. Didn't know if you had a region unlocked Xbox or PS2. I got Fahrenheit for the Xbox.

Its odd there aren't more reviews out on Batallion Wars :( sometimes thats a bad sign, only IGN has their's done and well they're always dirty whore with inflated scores, so I'll have to wait for some othere sources before I decide, as the rental stores here SUCK and won't get the game for another month or more.

I guess beating off to fake videogame tits is nearly the same as beating off to fake Pamela Anderson tits. Both are made of nearly the same stuff.
Still, I probably wont be able to dive back into Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy until this weekend. It was fun the only day I've played it so far, but my weekdays are usually gameless for me (too busy). i wanted to see the risque stuff that was probably cut out, but for now I havent seen much to warrant censoring. That said, i'm only a few hours into it.

So not being able to play one possibly unlockable character means you won't play ANY of them? In what could be, at the very least, the 2nd best X-men game EVER?!
Well, yeah. The only reason I am showing any interest in that game at all is because she has been mentioned. I mean frankly, the original just wasn't that great for multiplayer... Sharing screen space with four other people = not cool.

I'm still not quite following. Do you mean like a more old-school sidescrolling title? Because in that case... that could potentially be pretty interesting, I agree. Hmm.

Ahh. I haven't gone through all that trouble and am not interested in it.

Ahh, thanks for that. I thought the game wasn't available anymore, but I guess I really hadn't looked, since I have a copy. I'll just wait on Katamari 2 then.

Ugh... Its weeks like these that make me want to throw in the towel working at EB. I'll be picking up Winter Assault me thinks as well as Katamari, NG:Black and maybe Genji at a later date. Indigo Prophecy fails to install on my PC for whatever reason and I don't want it on console.

I'll be picking up We Love Katamari and Indigo Prophecy as soon as I can (hopefully today). I've been putting off NG because I didn't want to buy it and find out I couldn't get very far, but with the new version out, I don't think I can hold off much longer. I have 2 old bear sized Xbox controlers lying around. Might as well buy Ninja Gaiden Black and send them to controler heaven.

Huh, looks like none of these games were at EB today. The guy at the counter said Katamari tomorrow, and Indigo Prophecy Friday. Didn't check for NGB. Lame.
