Normally, I'd save this item found over at Ars Technica (http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2008/06/18/gamefly-begins-insane-game-sale-aaa-games-under-20-ftw) for the Gaming Deals forum, but it's such a good deal it probably deserves front page treatment:

Right now Gamefly is in the middle of a pretty amazing sale, and I think it might be time to beef up your collection. Some examples?

Xbox 360

* Mass Effect for $17.99
* Devil May Cry 4 for $17.99
* Burnout Paradise for $17.99
* TimeShift for $13.99 (Hey, I liked it)
* Assassin's Creed for $16.19

PlayStation 3

* Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for $17.99
* Unreal Tournament 3 for $16.19
* Lair for $17.99 (You could always check out the new controls)

Nintendo Wii

* NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams for $13.49
* Manhunt 2 for $13.49

The GameFly sale page can be found here (http://www.gamefly.com/store/).

Seems like a good time to stock up on any of the titles you missed in the deluge of AAA titles last fall at a good price. Mass Effect for less than a 20 spot is a deal and a half.

Editor's Note - Prices quoted above are for Gamefly members. - fitbabits

I was about to pull the trigger on both Blacksite and Medal of Honor: Airborne, but there appears to be no way to add more than one item to your shopping cart!

Hmmm...I have $10 in GF credita and 10% off. Maybe now is the time to buy DMC4 :)

Wow, one I missed is Stranglehold for the 360 for $10.

I might grab the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed for $18, I've been curious about that one for a while. DMC4 (PS3) for $20 isn't a bad deal either.

DMC4 tempts me. The demo wasn't too bad. How does it compare to NG2?

For what it's worth, it looks like they do free shipping, so there's no reason you couldn't just do it as two separate orders. A bit of a pain, but it should work.

I just played through Assassin's Creed in April. It's one of the best games I have played on the current generation of consoles. The story was interesting. The combat was badass. And the movement mechanics/animations are sweet! The missions do become repetitive, but the overall package is fairly unique, and a blast to play.

I got Mass Effect for $9. Haven't torn into it yet... but it's good to hear that it's worth it at twice the price.

From the little time I spent with NG2, I'd say that DMC 4 is a little more polished. The camera is much better. I think the DMC series is pretty played out, though. The characters are pretty silly, and Dante really only seemed like a badass when I played the first one (in high school).

I bought Mass Effect last week from Gamefly for $22, which I still thought was a pretty good deal. Was tempted on DMC4 and Stranglehold, but I try not to really buy many games that are just single player unless they are something I will come back to again and again. I've stopped trying to "collect" games just to let them sit on a shelf.

I bought Lost Planet for the 360 a couple of days ago at Gamestop for $16 and I'm digging it so far. While I don't collect games, any game under $20 of good quality is hard to resist. I just won't pay $60 for them.

I pulled the trigger on Assassin's Creed for a total of $19.25. Ars Technica's prices must be for members only because I got the $17.99 price which is still good. I didn't give that game a fair chance before when I had it.

Gamefly is becoming my main source to buy games lately. I got GRID the 2nd day it was out and the disc is PERFECTLY NEW.. (no scratches or smudges) I can buy/keep it for only $37 .. sure beats $60 anyday.

i enjoyed the stranglehold single player, but it's not something i would play multiple times. sometimes it's fun to just kill people aimlessly, with style.

Which is why $10 seems like the perfect price for it.

What kind of shape do they send the games in? I'm weird about that kind of thing so I normally won't buy anything if the disc/case/manual aren't in pretty good condition w/o any kind of stickers on them.

I've bought from them MANY times and the condition has always been near-mint. One time I had a broken case - I emailed them and 3 days later I got a brand new case in the mail for free. Now THAT'S service!

Damn that's nice. Ok, yeah, I'll probably be buying AC then.

Totally safe.. they send the case and the manual to you with free shipping. After you hit the top discount tier you get 10% off and $5 coupons. (you can stack the $5 coupons as well)

Yeah, safe and guaranteed. Discs may not be pristine, but they are generally good and working, and cases and manuals are untouched.

I'd recommend Stranglehold and Jericho at 9.99. And free shipping. Personally I bought Mass Effect and DMC4 a couple days ago from Gamefly when the sale first started. Almost grabbed Burnout Paradise but I held off. I still haven't played through Revenge.

fitbabits: it sucks you can't add multiple items to your cart and have to do multiple transactions, but it's FREE SHIPPING!! Who cares!

Snagged Stranglehold for $10. Sweet deal! I'd have bought DMC4 too, but $10 was my limit since I just bought a new DS and am gonna be buying FFTA2 next week, so I'm just about out of gaming money for the next month or so.

He's just looking out for Gamefly. Multiple transactions results in multiple transaction fees paid to credit card companies.

For $18 for AC, you won't be sorry. The flaws that some sighted in the game will be forgiven for that price. Otherwise it's an amazing game you certainly will be enjoying. Now you have something to look forward to after MGS 4 :D

And second what GrinR said about buying from GF. I do it all the time...stuff is near mint...any issues they will replace it...

They need to really update their service to save on shipping and transaction fees for themselves then. I don't mind as long as I am getting free shipping.

I don't understand why I have to pay sales tax for an entity that is not located in my state, but not too much. I can deal...for a good deal.

Crap..there goes the $$ from recent jobs...

AC for the 360 is gone. Was setting up my account and for some reason it failed. Went back in, got it working, and now I need to setup an alert for it. Sigh. Still got Jericho, Burnout, and Stranglehold though.

Sounds like I snagged a copy just in time. With all the roommates moved out with jobs and whatnot, and me being bored to tears, I'm really looking forward to this. I originally held off because of the criticisms, but for 18 bones? Sign me up.

Since I had to sign up for Gamefly to order the games I did, I am wondering if I just request it as a rental, and then purchase it at that point, what it would cost me? Or, just grab it from Amazon for $32 new.

Its also pretty awesome that they give you the case and manual when you buy. I dont do Gamefly, so I wasnt sure what the deal was. Theyd still sell like hotcakes even if they just sent you the game in a sleeve. Sure, we'd bitch, but we would also still buy them. It sounds like Gamefly's really got their act together with customer service and satisfaction. Three cheers for a good business model.

Why do you have to sign up? I don't remember signing up. I do, however, use Google Checkout, which is always handy, so perhaps that's why I didn't have to sign up.

Hmmm, no Ass Creed anymore, but I did get Mass Effect. Kind of annoying that they charge tax. $21 or so after tax. Still not bad.

It seems as if they sign you up with a membership when you purchase, but it doesn't seem to be a billable membership as you can't actually rent games, change your membership plan or cancel it. If I'm wrong and they start recurring billing I will be pissed as I have no interest in their service. They do keep your card on file because they used it to make my second purchase of Burnout Paradise City for me.

Assassin's Creed came back into stock. I will try the service out for a few games and see how it goes. I may wish I used Google Checkout instead, which I do not have an account with currently.
