Earlier this week it was learned that From Software was making Chromehounds for Xbox 360. Today they announced Armored Core 4 for both Xbox 360 and PS3.

Screenshots can be found on this somewhat unreadable pdf files: 1, (http://www.fromsoftware.jp/main/press/ac4_xbox360.pdf) 2, (http://www.fromsoftware.jp/main/press/ac4_ps3.pdf) Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/09/16/news_6133552.html)

Is Mech Assualt 3 and Steel Battalion around the corner? Also, anybody notice fewer multiplatform games?

I don't think we are going to see many multiplatform games at all this coming gen. Ken Kuturagi has said in the past that it will be difficult for developers to port games from the PS3 to the 360, and I think this has been stated elsewhere as well. Ports to the Revolution will be possible (despite what some think), but I think overall we will see less multiplatform titles and more system exclusives.

While I won't be buying all the next gen consoles (probably just one), I do hope that we have more exclusives and less games being watered down to fit all the system specs.

Also, Anybody noticing few multiplatform games.

I am, and the only conclusion I can come to is that the consoles are finally different enough to make multiplatform games too complicated. The Revolution is slightly less powerful and has that funky controller; The PS3 is using architecture that is even more wildly different than the Emotion Engine and is more than likely using BluRay; and the 360 is essentially a multicore PC optimized to play games. I view this as a good thing because it finally means that each platform will get the attention it deserves - no more creating games for the lowest common denominator and then throwing shitty ports elsewhere. We all know that games turn out best when they are optimized for one system.

I like exclusives personally -- this generation will be the first in a while (maybe ever) where I've wanted all 3 (or 2 in the early generations) consoles.

I expect the main reason we see few previews of multiplatform next-gen games right now is because there's only one next-gen platform currently in production. Even previews of X360 games were sparse and fairly inaccurate until pretty recently when the final dev kits were spread around.

Don't worry: EA will make up for every other developer in terms of shoveling their games onto every next-gen platform possible.

Screw Mech Assault 3... make with the Mechwarrior 5!

Assuming we can have only one, that is. I DO like the Mech Assault games; very much even. But they don't make up for a lack of a fresh Mechwarrior game on the PC.

My thoughts exactly...

I don't think we'll be seeing another Steel Battalion anytime soon considering Capcom effectively killed the last one recently. People that played the game are pissed (and for good reason) and considering the cost involved I think very few people will risk putting a lot of money into a game that might be killed in a year or two.

Otogi is great... I hope they hop to another on xbox 360.

And I never played the mechwarrior series, but didn't the mechs move remarkably slow?

swift - I was wondering if capcom maybe cancelled it to move it on to the next xbox maybe, getting swept up in the whole next gen game development stuff

In the mechwarrior series assault mechs tended to be slow and heavies were always slow. I think the default Direwolf/Dashi (a classic heavy) clocked in around 30 kp/h (19mph). Light and medium mechs had good speeds (95-125 km/p or 59-78 mph), and rumor has it that super lights like the Flea (fear the flea!!!) can clock over 200 kp/h (around 124 mph) in the right conditions. The combat could be slow start, but it was always something to me to watch a lance of heavies’ final get to each other and fill the sky with lasers, missiles, and tracer bullets (provided those weapons weren't leveled at me.) It was sort of like watching an apocalyptic 4th of July.

I figured capcom killed SB because they didn't think it was profitable enough, to niche of a market I suppose. I'm not fimilar with the custom controls you have to buy, maybe someone with experience could tell me, but I wonder if they'll be compatible with the new systems. I don't think many people who got screwed over once will buy into this again. If it is compatible, Capcom would save a lot of face for killing the x-box version.

Edit: Nasty spelling errors.
