If you want to watch the entire Nintendo keynote from the Tokyo Game Show, you can (http://www.irwebcasting.com/050916/03/ff3672f7df/main/index_hi.htm).
It's pretty long, 47 minutes; Satoru Iwata introduces the Revoluton at 28:00, and at 38:00 3rd-party comments from Square-Enix and Konami are shown. From 40:00 on, Iwata explains the logic behind the Revolution design.
Thanks 4CR (http://www.4colorrebellion.com/archives/2005/09/16/iwatas-keynote-video/)

I've never been a console person. I've had a PS2 since a month after launch and I only have 5 games (though, those games are among my favorites). The revolution is the only console that has gotten me really excited. I think its biggest draw is just its natural approach to gaming. And, to me, that's a revolution.

The Revolution will not be televised, but it will have magic wands... :)

In all seriousness, do you REALLY think this has pr0n applications?
I mean, sure, you can thrust the controller, but do you really think it's an effective mechanism?
Given the chance the porn industry can do wonderful innovative things.

I am so glad Nintendo is taking a different approach to gaming. It is time for somthing DIFFERENT aside from better graphics. as much as I love graphics (its my career anyway).
I am looking forward to this console and to see what it has to offer.

Somewhere in a quiet corner, Sony and Microsoft and kicking themselves.
That's sarcasm I'm assuming.

I'm sure they are not kicking themselves right now because I honestly doubt either company could have produced a workable controller of this kind even if they wanted to. Neither company is a leader when it comes to interface design. They will wait and see how well it performs. If the revolution controller is at all successful, expect the motion tracking technology to appear as a standard in the Playstation 4 and XBox 720 controllers... THAT will be the sign of Microsoft and Sony kicking themselves, just as their new wireless controllers are signs that they kicked themselves over the Wavebird. I don't know about Sony, but I recall that the designers at Microsoft openly mocked the very idea of a wireless controller when the Wavebird was released.

Did they show the thing in use at all? looks neat, but i'd like to see some kind of tech demo or something.

There is not a chance in hell the Revolution will be more successful than XBox or PS3. Considered a success or maybe even successful enough to be copied from, but not enough for the big two to be kicking themselves.
Their controllers are not what has Nintendo falling behind.
I really don't think MS was kicking themselves over OSX as they ripped off various elements for Vista.

True, the need to actually make a profit from the gaming division instead of subsidizing it just for the sake of improving the parent company's brand name is what really holds Nintendo back. Shame on them for trying to run a successful business when they should be spending the advertising dollars needed to win popularity contests among 15-year-old males.
However, it's not necessarily a stretch for them to outsell the 360 in Japan. The insane cult of Sony keeps interest in Microsoft smothered to about 2%. It'll be interesting to see how 360 vs PS3 works out in the states as well... I think it's possible for Microsoft to overtake Sony here, and it's a long hard fall for Sony in the states if they lose their #1 spot in the coming generation. Nintendo has a chance of overtaking Sony here if that happens. Europe? Don't think Nintendo has a shot in hell there.
Here's something I've been wondering... do you get royalties off of Puttin' On The Ritz? Or does that go straight to the estate of whoever did the original version? You really had a fat synth sound going, Mark Mothersbaugh must have been jealous.
Nintendo's content with winning the most-profitable race even if they lose the market penetration race. They're completely happy with sitting at 3rd as long as they have a console and can make games for it.

I say "welcome" to the first next-gen gaming system. the 360 and PS3 are updated versions of previous hardware. If they had their say, gaming would stay unevolved for the next 5 decades...or forever. Nintendo deserves credit for pushing the envelope. This could be the first steps towards a truly virtual gaming system in the future....baby steps, but we need as much progression as we can get.

In the Jim Merrick interview he says they have more surprises in store.
I wonder what else they have up their sleeves...?

You lost me on that one. Just because you have an unproven control scheme it makes it next generation? I'm sure it isn't the backward compatibility factor because Sony has compatibility with all of their previous games. It's not the online component because Nintendo hasn't given us information on that yet. It obviously isn't about the games, because Ninetendo hasn't shown any.
So, a new control scheme means 'next gen system'. I have to disagree. To me, next gen is a bit more than a new controller. I don't think the Power Glove constituted the Next Gen when it came out...

It's in my sig what I want from Nintendo... Until they make it, I won't buy it.
^_^ I'd love to help design that...

It's not that a controller makes it next-gen, I think it's that a fundamental shift in how we control games (standard not optional like the glove) makes it next-gen. When Nintendo came out with the d-pad + a, b it was a shift, the analogue stick on the 64, it was a shift, this movement sensing controller it is a shift. Now it may not turn out alright (I hope it does) but that doesn't make it less next gen (see Virtual Boy). The SNES and GC weren't truly next gen, just evolutions on existing systems. If Nintendo does nail this, then we may be seeing 3 systems with motion sensing devices maybe even earlier than the "next next gen".

I stopped playing consoles because they are getting very boring and I cannot stand controllers anymore. This is why I am a PC gamer. If I want better graphics and complicate controls I have my 2k gaming rig for that.
I am so hyped to see what Nintendo can do with this because it’s different, and looks like a lot of fun. Oh, and I can finally seem to be able to play FPS games on the console! No more shitty FPS controller controls.
