So it would seem, based on this story (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4252628.stm) from the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk).

The world's largest software company Microsoft and media giant Time Warner are in talks about how the two US firms can work more closely together.

Press reports claim the talks focus on two areas - the first could see Time Warner's AOL replace its current search engine Google with Microsoft's product.

Secondly, they speculate that Microsoft is keen to buy part of AOL and merge it with its own internet business.

The two have declined to comment and a deal is not thought to be imminent.
If you can tear yourself from the Revolution controller debate for a little while, I'd be interested in what y'all think of this.

Could this have Time Warner releasing movies to HD-DVD to support the upgraded 360/piss on the PS3's Blue Ray?

You're a smart one. Sounds plausible. I wonder what will happen with Live. Could make it even better. Notice I said, "Could ..."

Is the idea that two crappy internet providers make one good provider? And why would Time substitute a sub-standard search engine for Google?

Translation: It's about effectivness of marketing and ease of sale to the lightweight net users. Not functionality.

Just a quick note, the initial format of the Xbox360 is DVD, and Gates has only been quoted that Xbox360 "may incorporate an additional capability to read HD-DVD in the future." Also, Gates has "taken a neutral position as to the format [dispute]". So I doubt this has much to do with Blu-Ray vs HD.

And for those of us who already like it?

If resistance is futile sheep, what does that make collaboration? Worthwhile sheep? Sorry. :(

I'm hoping for a big heaping mess that leaves two mega companies in shambles, opening up new markets and allowing new and different ideas a chan...

I'm sorry, I just don't like monoplies or "looking out for shareholder #1" big company tactics. Screw them all.
