No one can confirm if this is real or not, but it definitely looks authentic. Interesting things to note:

"Offline" in top-left corner hints at the online awareness capabilities
Picture at the bottom shows instructions to "tilt" controller, supposedly being used here for software selection
"GumShu: Bloody Afternoon" - a remake of the original NES "Gumshoe"?

Don't be confused folks, TVG had nothing to do with getting this picture. The folks on Shack pointed out the photo yesterday without a watermark on it.

Anyway, controller information should be coming tonight. I know IGN and a few other sites will be covering the event, including Nintendo's keynote and all that starting at around 7:00 PM EDT.

If some of you guys just focus on just the controller and reject the whole "revolution" based on just a controller that you even dont know a thing about, then you are personally very shallow and superficial.

I for one would rather just just sit here and wait till the real information comes before I judge.

I may be making this up, but I recall the controller being called revolutionary by Nintendo at some point (or at least the method of control). Hence, people are focusing on the controller. It's not superficial, it's curiosity. It may have killed the cat, but I'm not aware of it being harmful in any other way.

I think it's interesting that people are so quick to dismiss a tilt controller in a gamepad as being stupid. If you've played "WarioWare: Twisted," you should know that Nintendo has actually done tilt sensors really well. If this controller does just that, with the little feedback kick that GameBoy cart had, I think it could be pretty amazing. If it can move along two axes (front/back and left/right), then that really would be revolutionary, as much so as analog sticks -- perhaps even more. I've thought for a while this is what the controller would look like.

That being said, no point in speculating until we see it in action, and not on a blurry, maybe fake, maybe real leak.

They already HAVE pulled off tilt as a cool feature. It's called WarioWare Twisted! for GBA. Regardless of your opinion of the WarioWare series, the control scheme was brilliant. There were about 5 seconds where I drove a car by tilting the GBA and it was everything I'd hoped for since playing games in 1979.

Anyone stop to think that Nintendo is being sneaky with the name? Revolution, to me, can suggest rotating a controller. In effect, they've been telling us all along what it would be about. Did anyone think it was going to shine their shoes or pick up the kids from school?

Photoshopped. The top and bottom of the projection screen is lighter than the dark spots of the projected image. Unless you guys think that Nintendo has developed a projector capable of NULLIFYING ambient light from a surface, this is obviously fake.It would appear that what you're talking about is the "black" bars above the "Revolution" text and below the "software" text. If the projector was not of the highest quality (which, based on this pic seems to be the case), it's possible that black doesn't appear as a true black at all because of contrast ratios and such. However, if you look at the dark areas around "GumShu," there does appear to be darker regions that appear to be closer to true black.

So, either you're right and this is photoshopped, or the "black" bars I mentioned earlier aren't black at all, but closer to a midnight blue, which would explain the discrepency. Who knows? Hopefully us, soon.

I can see the tilt being used for anything an analog controller is used for. With force feedback added, you could know exactly when the controller is at rest. How about picking locks like in Splinter Cell by jiggling and twisting the controller? Controlling Super Monkey Ball by tilting as if you were balancing a ball? Steering a tank with the controller while moving the turret with the analog stick? Use your imagination before you dismiss something so easily.

You know, I for one always tilt the controller when playing games, and I know a lot of other people do the same. When I first saw this, my immediate thought was "Wow, I hope that's not the big 'revolution'", but after further consideration I think this could actually be pretty damn cool.

Many thought that Wind Waker and the DS were stupid as well when first announced, and both of those just plain rock.

This would work for a lot more than just racing games, as Bone pointed out. I can see playing a Mario game with something like this as well. Tilt the controller to have him run in a certain direction, turn, etc. It would probably be even more natural than an analog stick. Kind of like driving a Segway.

Sony has that screen out already. It's a front projection screen that's black that helps increase contrast ratio and lowers the need for a dark room.

On the IGN boards some people were claiming that this picture came out around the time of the Germany show a couple weeks ago. Personally I think it looks fake but I could be wrong.

Also, Nintendo has stated that the GameCube controller ports on Rev aren't just for playing backwards compatable games, and that they are also there to provide another option for developers, like the SNES controller that's built into the DS. The only way I see developers supporting that feature is if they include a Wavebird with Rev along with the Rev's controller.

I'll say this, if the new feature of Rev's controller is at least as functional as the DS then I'm sold. I wasn't sure before, but after playing Kirby: Canvas Curse I fell in love with the DS.

I guess we'll find out in a couple hours. After waiting months for news a few hours is nothing.

I saw this picture yesterday morning, I must say that it looks pretty authentic. Could easily be fake... anyone with enough imagination and artistic talent could throw up a faked interface image like that and put it on his living room projector, and then get his father or someone to stand next to the screen to make it look 'more authentic'.

But I still think this might actually be real. Most likely a secret presentation back in August instead of being leaked from TGS. Don't you think they would show people a Japanese version of the interface if this was being shown there?

I imagine it would take a minimal amount of force feedback to tell you the controller is "moving". Just like you can hold a glass of water without looking at it based on slight movement of the water.

Anyway, the only thing I occasionally found uncomfortable about WarioWare was following the moving screen while controlling the game. With a TV, the controller is freed up for even more movement.

When I call someone a fag (my brother and I sometimes throw that word around at each other) it means stupid, or idiot mostly. It's an insult, but usually it's in jest. However, you can usually tell from my tone and context if I mean it to insult homosexuals (which I don't do--I'm too liberal for that).

Retarded is a good word though; I love it. I use the word all the time. I might say to some guy who fucks up royally "You fucking retard" in anger, but I can also use it to describe my friends as "stupid retards" in jest. Retard and retard get slammed too much as a bad word. Fag and retard are both words that are great to get your point across, and both have new colloquial meanings (which can also be unfortunate, in fag's case).

When I say the word "fag", it's not to insinuate homosexuality. If I say "retard", I'm not making fun of mentally disabled people. Yes, it can be juvenille, but so is throwing tantrums, shitting my pants or pissing to bed, and I do all of those daily.

Making a controler that is intuitive seems like a stroke of genius. Finally my gramma can get that extra traction when we are racing mario karts and she might win a game or two.

That is completely true. Usually casual gamers do this all the time. I tend to stay completely still, but I think I might still twitch from time to time. I know when I was little, my retard friends and parents would twist and turn the controller like they were truly controlling the vehicle or character. This COULD be a Revolution. We'll have to wait and see if they announce anything tonight....

...i cant wait...

I think Perigon needs to stop posting when its anything related to Nintendo. Seriously. It is this type of ignorance that is common in a person who runs around telling everybody that Nintendo is going to be bought out and Mario and Zelda are going to be playable on the Xbox.

Heck, I'll even throw in a punch in the face for him for free.

Wow, such tolerance...*snicker*.

Thanks for the utterly delicious slice of irony.

I doubt tilting is all it does.

That said....there have been so many fan-created "leaks" that really every idea has been thought up. Programmable interface buttons, gyroscopic insides for tilt resistance, stylus, dual handed, blah, blah, blah.

Really the controller could have a little slot on the side that spits out hundred dollar bills and shoots ninja stars, and I doubt any of you would be impressed. And that's not an insult to anyone's intelligence at all. Fact is...Nintendo has hyped this up WAAAAAY too early, leaving too much time for people to speculate what the big damn deal is. Chance are...whatever the revolution is has already been thought of by some fans and a fake mock-up has already been made. Imaginations running wild will leave everyone underwhelmed.

It would be prudent for people to really try to start lowering your expectations if you plan on getting the system at all. Chances are, it probably is pretty cool and pretty damn fun. The DS is awesome...and I was super skeptical of that when I first heard about it. I have no doubt the revolution will be the same.

But as long as people keep expecting programmable button stylus crap (I mean, really...wtf, people?) you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Didn't Nintendo say back at E3 that they were trying to get people who have never played games before to become gamers? I think that with a tilt controller they would definately accomplish that goal. Way back in the day when I let my sister play my SNES she was all over the place trying to control whatever she was playing. And if I recall my parents are the exact same way. Well anyways, Nintendo to me is like pure gaming goodness. Everything with their name on it is usually golden. At E3 two years ago when I got to play with the DS, I thought it was the most innovative system created. When Nintendo says they're going to do something great they always pull through and then some. Keep the faith people!

Don't forget the Super Scope, either! :D

Let's not forget "The UForce" (NES), R.O.B. The Robot (NES), and "The Power Glove" (NES).

More info on these devices:http://www.gamer-talk.net/feature46.html

Another major mistake I like to point out is the Game Boy Advance lack of backlit.

You cant fault them for trying to innovate while other companies stagnate. I think the last shoddy thing released by Nintendo was the Virtual Boy, and at least it was something totally different. I hope they continue to do stuff to push the gaming world ever forward. That Gameboy camera was even pretty nifty back in the day.

Fuck anyone who says that the Virtual Boy was shoddy. That was a damn fun piece of hardware, and it's only inherent flaw was the bi-pod it stood on. If it had sold better, there would of been way more games and it would of brought even more joy to my home. I still play it from time to time, Wario World, Teleroboxer, Mario Tennis... mmm, good stuff.

Hey I only said it because it's the general concensus here. I've only used one once, but it seemed your eyes could be bothered after awhile. I like that Nintendo was trying to innovate, but it's their last technical failure.

I don't really fault Nintendo, but I'm just pointing out that even Nintendo can make mistakes.

Another failed product I forgot to mention was the SNES mouse unfortunately very few software support it.

Ah, now that's interesting!

If they can come up with a powerful hardware and a very interactive games/software, I'll buy that system.
