According to the PS3 Portal site, Sega may have a big announcement in store for us at TGS. Their reporter on the scene claims that as he was walking around the show while they were setting up, he caught a glimpse of something Sega was planning, and it is big. What is it? No hint yet, but the show starts around 8PM EST Tonight.
Lastly, walking around booths you tend to see things you probably shouldn’t see as of yet. I’m not going to spoil the surprise but…Sega will have something EXTRA special at this year’s TGS..and it’s not arcade or software related…

Pffft... Sega doesn't have a trick in the bag...
I mean Sonic news was dropped last week. The only think anybody could be looking from them is the next Shenmue game.

No offense, but this is a "no shit" kind of post. You do not purchase a booth as big as the one they purchased unless you plan on rocking the show.
With that said, I can't wait to see what Nintendo has to say tonight.

It's a new console! They'll announce that they are the first company to license the Xbox 360 technology.

Remember the last BIG SEGA ANNOUNCEMENT? Yeah, it was the Matrix Online.
And we all know how that turned out.

Is this "big announcement" going to be like their "big announcement" about publishing Matrix Online? Maybe they are all excited about changing their official detergent from Tide to Cheer?

Well...Sega isn't the one saying they have a big announcment this time, this is someone that actually SAW something and says its big. Might be more credible. My guess is it has something to do with Retro gaming. Maybe a handheld of sorts that has rom packs for playing classic genesis games?

Well, if their big announcment is a new console or handheld, then they are fucking stupid. Seriously fucking stupid.

They just saved a ton of money on their car insurance.

Haha. Gotta love Geico. Their commercials are great, especially the Tony Little one.

My favorite is the "Tiny House" one.
About the rumor, well, they mentioned that it's not arcade or software related, so it's business related, I think. MS buys Sega!
(I guess it could be a handheld thing...)

He says it is not arcade or software related. That leaves only hardware related, unless they are planning to release a new line of clothes. I wouldn't mind some type of genesis or dreamcast handheld as long as the price is in the 100-150 range and the battery life is good.
Speaking of the a "dreamcast" handheld, obviously you can't put a CD/DVD reader on a handheld due to size and power consumption. I wonder if anyone has everythought about making a handheld with a hard drive and then downloading the games off of the internet, sort of like one of the Revolutions rumored capabilities but for a handheld. Could this be done for games as large as the Dreamcast's were?
Rumor has it they're published the Matrix Online 2.

Just out of curiosity, how close in proximity is the SEGA booth to Microsoft's?

It's a range of sexual plush toys based on Sega franchise characters. Sonic with a 10" fake penis anyone?
Hello Kitty can't have all the fun.

I liked the cave men ones the best. OH and Tiny House...
I was mad that wasn't a real show the first time I saw that commercial
And I think I wouldn't be mad at a Otogi 3

These really are some of the best commercials. My personal favorite right now is the one with the bear and the salmon. I also liked the soap opera one.
None of them are "bad" but some are more creative than others.
As for this Sega announcement, I don't think what they have to say will be as big as what ever Nintendo has up their sleeve.

I seriously doubt that SEGA bought a huge booth just to announce that they are selling out to MS. That would be more than a little silly.
Did the Matrix Online ever even come out? Or is it still in development?

Well, assuming that you aren't just being sarcastic, it did "officially" come out and was eventually sold to Sony Online. You could say it was still in development (judging by some of the comments on the game itself) - but usually you don't have to pay to participate in a public beta.

It COULD be a Dreamcast handheld. The games could come on ROM cartridges. The Dreamcast already has a ton of games that developers could quickly and easily re-launch. Additionally, the DC is a very easy-to-develop-for platform.
One of the problems with the PSP is that it takes so much effort to build a PSP game (just as much as a PS2 game) and you can't use the same assets cause the PSP is still not powerful enough. When faced with that situation, people end up developing for just PS2.

You're all wrong. It's the Sega Pico 2! The must-own launch title will be "Tails and the Music Maker 2 DX: Directors Cut Rush Battle Heroes" It makes learning fun! And extreme!

there were rumors this (or was it last) e3 about a sega handheld; the games would have been downloadable and called "gamebits". the reason i remember this rumor is becaise i own (the now offline) gamebits.org
i don't think sega is foolish enough to try launching hardware at this point. the handheld market just got alot more competative, and sony+nintendo+microsoft have a pretty tight grip on the livingroom. they only way it would work is if it was, say, a sega branded xbox (or revolution or ps3, for that matter) with sega commiting to devolping only for that hardware. and i don't see that happening.
if it isn't software or arcade, and a new console and handheld are out of the question (and i think they are out of the question), it could be something buisness releated, like sega being sold (doubt it), or buying a smaller development company. or, it could be more TV games (like the genesis 5in1)...
come to think of it, maybe sega is going to get into 3rd party accessories. controllers, memory cards, ect. it's something they have experience in, the profits are pretty high in that sector, and it's pretty clear that there will be 3 (or 4 if you count PC) prominent platforms for at least another generation.

I DONT think MS is buying sega given the fact that sega already announcd games for the ps3. Even without that I think sega is more likely to be bought by Nintendo than anybody else. (not that I think they are being bought...)
The guy who said they will be making third party accerssories probably got it right. Think about it is a person was a bunch of controllers they may be inclined to thing it was a console launch, ans that would be big news.

Did I miss something? How can Sega be bought by Microsoft or Nintendo when they were already bought by Sammy?

I don't see why sega would release their own version of the x360 and only make sega games compatible with that version. Microsoft loses $100 on every x360 they make. They only make money by the liscensing fees on every game sold. If software was the only profitable part of the business then sega's decision to limit their games to a small % of x360 owners makes even less sense.

you're reading that wrong. if sega made a sega branded xbox 360, they would only make games for the xbox 360. the games would work in any xbox 360, not just the one that says sega on it.

Today, Sega added one more Western developer to its mix of collaborations. Bizarre Creations, best known for being behind the wheel of the Project Gotham Racing series for Microsoft's consoles, will be partnering with Sega to create a new "next-generation franchise." Sega and Bizarre have not released any information on the project, but a post on Bizarre's Web site says it will be multi-platform.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I was without the net for 6 months so I missed out on a lot, and I don't recall seeing the game in stores. Not that I really want to play it - I was just curious. :)

I think I just saw somewhere a Sega wireless PS2 controller that uses the Saturn D-Pad instead of the stupid directional buttons on a standard PS2 controller.
You may be right, but it does not sound impressive.
Neither did Matrix Online. :/

BIG ANNOUNCMENT: Sega died with the Dreamcast, and they bought a huge space at TGS for the funeral. Finally we can see it's noble corpse put to rest rather than having a bunch of monkeys fuck it up the ass and ride it around Tokyo.

Was that really the big announcement? They partnered w/Bizarre Creations to create a next gen franchise?? So, they didn't give any details on it, they just said they had a partner in making one...
Sega has fallen so freaking far from legitimacy it is ridiculous. Umm, and no...they can't get up. Ever.
