Looks like this one is going to happen!
The deal was inked only days ago, and few details are available as of now. Telltale stresses that the game will not be Sam & Max: Freelance Police, the LucasArts title whose highly-publicized 2004 cancellation was widely mourned by fans. New content will be developed, and the game will be implemented in an episodic format similar to that of Telltale's Bone games. Purcell, who works at Pixar, says he will be as involved with the Sam & Max project as he can be.

Fantastic! Fantabulous news!

I'm also interested in learning more about the Bone game. That's a pretty large story to tell; I wonder how well the episodic format will work.

You know, I feel like I've really missed out as I never played any of the old Lucas Arts adventure games, I missed Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, The Curse of Monkey Island, all of 'em. I'm gonna go sit in a corner and weep for my lost youth.

You can find super-cheap copies of some of these games at online software sites - which ones escape me at the moment, but they shouldn't be too hard to sniff out. Old Lucasarts games + ScummVM = happy.

Before you go sit in the corner, go find a copy of each of the games you mentioned and buy them. Install each of them on your laptop (you do have a laptop, right?). Grab some chips, soda, a bucket, some toilet paper and some hand sanitizer. You'll be in the corner for weeks... :D

This has made my day. My office mate can't figure out why I'm doing a little happy dance behind my desk.

A company smart enough to pick up the Bone license? I trust them to make Sam and Max. It's a shame that they'll be starting from scratch though, since that could mean its still a long long time before we actually see this come out.

Oh, and to those who haven't played the old LucasArts games - ScummVM is your best friend - I've been playing through Monkey Island 1 and 2 over the past few days.

Yessss...yesss...sweeeet!

As people have mentioned, play Sam and Max (coincidence that the initials are S&M?), Full Throttle (it has a kick key for Christ's sake), Grim Fandango (curse that crappy movie ticket company for ruining the name), the Monkey Island Series (Curse especially). I also recommend the Indiana Jones Atlantis adventure game.

This is great news. The sense of elation when I heard of the news of a sequel a few years back was only ever match by the overwhelming heartache of the news of it's cancellation. How Lucas could justify cancelling the project I'll never know.

Gamers have paid their dues. We've tolerated endless insipid Star Wars clones. Our time is now.

Ooo! Does this mean we get to kick some puffy white mad scientist butt?

I'm afraid to belive.
Last time I was left hurt and confused.
Please let it be real this time.

Also, please let Pixar make a Sam and Max movie.

Sam: "The devil you say?"
Max: "The devil. The devil."

This is truly great news. Please, God, don't let my wife find out why I named our son Sam . . .

YOU SHOULD! But buy Sam and Max, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, and Day of the Tentacle off eBay before you do.

I know that LucasArts had a ton of their classic games for very cheap on their online store - not sure if they are still there or not. Worth checking out anyway.

I believe they still have a collection for $30 that has Sam and Max, Day of The Tentacle, and the Indiana Jones game in a metal CD wallet.

Well, everything I hear the word Fandango, I now think of ugly paper bag puppets trying to sell a theater ticket service. I used to think of Manny, and the land of the dead.

Oh, I guess I don't know about that bag puppets thing.

I have that CD wallet collection. Very nice indeed.

Sam: They then intend to march for the surface en masse!
Max: *shocked* you said EN MASSE!

So when can I pre-order this? the original stole several hours of my life.
