Yes that's right ladies and gents. The circle is complete and Philip "Kefkataran" Kollar is on this weeks 1UP Yours (http://1upyours.1up.com).

While also being his debut outing on the show, there's also some discussion of Evil Avatar and our relationship with K*taku.

Give it a listen (http://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3?http://download.gamevideos.com/Podcasts/060608.mp3)!

I like the part where Shane calls Phil a Wiitard.

This is awesome:

And...and...this is the first time in a looooong while that Garnett was free from the shackles of the news list. Our own Philip Kollar (some of you might remember him from Evil Avatar Radio) did a bang-up job reading the news this week. We have plans for this young man, and you'll be hearing more of him -- not necessarily limited to 1UP Yours -- very soon.

So that's the new "permanent" structure of 1UP Yours: Garnett, Shane and myself. Featuring John Davison, news sometimes with Philip Kollar, and our usual stable of special guests.

Ah, the future is bright. The best podcast just got better. Congrats Kef on your celebrity status :)

Garnett was just fanning the flames and joking around (as he went on to say).

Thanks for the support, all. I'm pretty psyched about those big plans of Skip's as well. ;) Stay tuned.

I agree that the people who frequently post on Kotaku suck but Kotaku itself is a great place for news and I have yet to see a reason why the site can't be trusted. I often see things on Kotaku hours, some time days before it shows up here. I come to EvAv for the community and the conversation I go to Kotaku for quick news fixes.

His pointless anecdotes get old, whether they're about his childhood or his most recent griefing methods.

I like when he goes in-depth on FPS or RTS, unfortunately there does not appear to be anybody else at 1up who can hang with him in those discussions.

I still love his stories, and I would agre with Kef that since they have added Anthony to the show he has really helped to bring a balance to Shawn's more in-depth discussions.

I really like Shane and Shawn. While I don't always agree with Shane, he's entertaining to listen to, and Shawn's griefing stories always make me laugh out loud. Garnett is always really great at holding the show together, and I miss Luke Smith's humor. The show definitely needs 999% more Seanbaby though.

I haven't had a chance to listen to this one yet, though :(

They can argue all they want, but they're obviously just his banana riders. :D

What does his relative's crystal meth story have to do with Gaming For Windows? Nothing. What does his grocery retail experience have to do with GFW? Nothing. I can hear dorky stories like that in any local bar, but guess how often I can find good discussion about windows games in those bars? Not too often. That stuff is just as pointless as just about everything that comes out of Seanbaby's mouth is. Low-brow, juvenile humor, which really isn't a rare commodity.

I'm not shooting for hero of the web status here, lol.

I'll talk about my personal problems with Kotaku (and this doesn't represent the overall opinion of Evil Avatar in general). I still go to the site regularly, but I have a problem with all the "white noise" they have on their pages. When I say "white noise" I'm talking about the posts that don't really belong on the page and would be better off put into forums or elsewhere.

Now I know why they have roughly 30+ newsposts per day (including the news dead weekends), all the writers are trying to get the bonuses that Gawker hands out via their new payment methods (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45948) that went into effect earlier this year at Kotaku and other Gawker sites that hadn't moved over there yet (Gizmondo for example). With the carrot square in front of them of course they will post drivel such as the "e-mails" between the staff or some other Enquirer-like newspost. That's my major problem with them.

In the industry as a whole Kotaku has been majorly criticized for not giving credit where credit is due when they duplicate a story from another site. I know that is one of the biggest reasons they were banned from here for a while. They have gotten better, but there have been points where I've seen them write the news as if they are the first on the block with it when they actually are not.

There are many times, as someone else said, that Kotaku is a good place for news where they have the inside scoop no one else does, but the "white noise" just turns me off. I'd rather go to a site like Joystiq to see the news I haven't seen here yet.

Anyway, with that off my chest...I enjoyed the podcast Phil and I hope you become a more permanent member.

I love his "pointless" stories. If for nothing other than to switch gears from time to time. And I swear, it's not even half the content of what he's saying, but how he tells it. The guy is a born storyteller.

Again, that's a fine opinion; I just 100% disagree with you. Intelligent discussion of PC gaming and gaming in general is one reason I tune into GFW Radio constantly, but another -- honestly, a more important one -- is the great personalities and their interaction, including Shawn's ridiculous stories and the other guys' reactions to them. Before they got this kind of stuff down, I found GFW Radio a pretty boring slog, but sometime last year it all just clicked into place and it's been at the top of my podcast listening list since then.

GFW is one of the most amusing podcasts out there. It's also smart whenever they get around to talking about games, which most of the time is pointless, as the news is old, they wrote previews already, or reviews. A podcast would ideally contain unique content and not just be a audio form of the same shit you can read yourself.

the 1up podcasts are quite good at being amusing and informative but not exactly the same way as the site.

Good cast Kef, even though you should speak up more, which I am sure you will once you get used to the flow of their show from behind the mic.

I also don't believe the idea that they have news before us (or anyone else) -- what they do is that they copy stuff we may not have posted yet from other major sites, but they don't post anything of their own at all... they just don't credit their sources the way most places do.

We also seldom (never?) lift news from print magazines, which is where a lot of sites get their "scoops".

I actually stopped listening pretty much right after Luke left... Which is really such a shame since they really did always have such a well rounded crew. What always made the show for me was Shane and Luke butting heads. After Luke left it just didn't feel the same.

Still though without Luke its one of the best video game podcasts (second only to good old EvAv radio ;) )

I'd say lifting from print mags is okay as long as you source, but yeah, writing anything based off another site's story without sourcing them is baaaad.

The first paragraph: I was wondering why all of a sudden they were starting to do previews and reviews. Maybe they got some publishers leaning on them to start doing so or they might pull support? I know, conspiracy theory, but you do have to wonder why it's taken so long for them to start doing that stuff. Then again maybe it has to do with the new pay scale ;)

I'm more inclined to believe they just wanted to start having more original content. That, plus since Kotaku's a fairly big name now, they get invited to all these preview events/get sent review copies of games that they just weren't doing anything with before now.

I'd also be willing to bet that 9 times out of 10 a hot new preview or review still doesn't pull in more hits than a crazy headline.
