View Full Version : Ikaruga: Double Deuce

Recently on Evil Avatar, a link was posted to a video (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5097) of a man playing through Ikaruga perfectly on 'hard'. While an amazing video and a testament to the player's skill, many in the thread seemed unimpressed.
I came across another video (http://video.google.com/videopreviewbig?q=ikaruga&time=0&page=1&docid=-163280885783523408&urlcreated=1126668468&chan=Uploaded&prog=Ikaruga&date=Mon+Apr+18+2005+at+3%3A06+AM+PDT) of a player that plays both player 1 and player 2 at the same time. Anyone who has ever laid a hand on Ikaruga can appreciate how insane this is.
For those of you who haven't had the opportunity, I've written a little article that may help (http://kamalot.blogspot.com/2005/09/ikaruga-double-deuce.html) put into perspective the amount of skill these amazing players have.

He's either a space alien or a robot. I refuse to believe a human creature can do this.

I actually beat it playing with 1st & 2nd player with my testicles. True story.

I'm not usually too into these video game feats of strength, but holy shiz! That was amazing.

What system(s) is this game available for and where can I get them at a low price? I'm always a good fan of crazy top-down shooters.

The game originally came out on the Dreamcast, but it was also rereleased on the Gamecube.

I think the game had a really limited run. I bought a copy when it came out, but I haven't seen it anywhere since.
I really do wish games would stay around longer in stores. There are several GBA titles that I never got around to buying when they came out, and now they are nowhere to be found.

Pfft, its easy. Just put two wavebirds on the same frequency, put both ships on different polarities, and play using one controller with the ships on top of each other.
I'm sure that isn't what he did, but still. I'm more impressed by the perfect combo video.

I don't even want to think of how many hours he put into perfecting this. Wouldn't be surprised if he could do it blindfolded.

What happened to the PS2 conversion, was it canned?

Kamalot, in the article you wrote, you refer to the games of this ilk as SHUMPS. They're actually called SHMUPS. Great video and article for a great game, though...

Yeah, saw this about a year ago. Mentioned it in the last post.
Let me tell you about my insaneness that was Ikaruga. I have the import and at work we got a DC off of ebay and hooked the system up to a rotated 19" monitor so we could play it in tate mode. (The DC puts it in high res on a monitor.) We then bought some DC arcade sticks. Over time we built an arcade cabinet and now we have our very own Ikaruga arcade rig. Very cool. (side note: we even rotated it
I got the GCN version the day it was released, but I still believe that the DC version is better and more responsive than the GCN version. Plus, rotating your TV is not a Good Thing.

I didn't know that there was ever a PS2 version planned. My guess is that if it isn't out by now, then we are probably never going to see it.
