This article from Yahoo (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050914/film_nm/gates_video2_dc;_ylt=AgeMSrZ77if0NPR0EwUTjcdxFb8C; _ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl) reports about a video Microsoft made for a conference in LA this week:
Seeking to capitalize on the popularity of the 2004 cult movie "Napoleon Dynamite," Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday screened a video spoof for software developers in which the film's celebrated anti-hero reports to work as a programer for the world's largest software maker.
In a face-off between the two nerd icons, Jon Heder, the actor who plays Napoleon Dynamite, beats Gates in a slapping match to become the head of the software giant.
Can anyone find a link to this? I'd love to see it.

Jon Heder looks huge standing next to Gates. Either Gates is small, or Heder is huge...

What's funny is when I worked for a video production company a couple of years ago, we did a lot of video post production and VHS duplication for them. I have a clip that him and Balmer did as a spoof of Studio 54. They also did some rain dancing. Funny stuff. I should digitize it.

Bill's a pretty small guy.
At least by midwestern standards.
Jon's a big guy.
Bill's a turtle.

Zanzibar, I can't really check right now since I'm in class, but the video *might* have been shown during Bill's keynote at PDC 2005. You can stream the 3-hour session in 300kbps by clicking here (http://metahost.savvislive.com/microsoft/20050913/pdc_20050913_300.asx).

Screw that :) What we really want to see is the new Crytek demo footage that was shown at that conference. CryENGINE 2 stuff, most probably (!!!).
EDIT: I'll add that both videos, Napoleon vs. Bill and Crytek, were suspended in that webcast. No show.

Heder also did these commercials for the Utah State Fair. They were pretty funny.

It won't be released. We're going to have to wait for shakey cam footage to be edited out. :(

Has anyone determined what minute:seconds the alleged Napoleon/Gates beatdown takes place? I don't want to watch 3 hours of this stuff!

Microsoft does a funny video spoof at every corporate event, usually featuring BillG and Ballmer. They are always edited out of webcasts though. It would be cool to see all of them over the years in one reel.

Varsity's link showed another forum with the following:
The reason we don't release these things is apparently that Hollywood contracts come in two varieties: "industry event"-type contracts, and "broadcast reuse"-type contracts. The former is a lot cheaper, but you don't get any broadcast rights. And if Microsoft broke that contract, we'd be sued for a lot of money, and no Hollywood agent would let their actors work with us ever again. That would suck. So if you want to see the videos, you have to come to our events. Sorry
(I only learnt this because it comes up every year on internal Microsoft mailing lists - all the employees who aren't at the event want to watch the videos as well, but we can't!)
Damn.
