View Full Version : Major bugs in XBOX360 GRID?

While playing GRID today on the XBOX360, I seem to have come across a nasty bug in this version of the game. I checked around online and according to The Official Codemasters Forums (http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=283765&page=1&pp=10) I am not alone.

The game is gorgeous, and the environments look spectacular... I know this because 5 or 6 times every race the game will lock up for about 1-3 seconds, then resume. During this time I can enjoy a pretty "screenshot" of the action... as long as it doesn't happen in the middle of some serious racing action.... which it often does.

Codemasters has already stated that they intend to patch it. Until then, buyer beware! It's a great game so far, but I think I'll be swapping it for the PS3 version tonight.

What's wrong with wanting a functioning copy of a game? It's why I'll be buying the 360 version of The Orange Box when I finally get around to it.

If you want a working version, then get it for the PC. ;)

Yeah. Why wait forever for a patch to roll around when I can un out to the store, exchange the 360 version of the game for a copy of the game that I know does not have this kind of potentially gameplay-ruining bug? I'm not turning it into a trolling thread, just saying that if it works without stuttering on that particular console then I'd rather play it on that particular console.

Nothing emo about that.

If you look up "XBOX 360 GRID Freeze" on Youtube you can find several instances of this bug in action. Will add them to my original post.

How could a bug like that possibly get through QA!? That's sloppy.

Here's another bug. No matter who I hire/fire, my teammates always suck. What gives?

As for GRID, for all I care...I don't! :D

My first, ironclad rule when it comes to buying games is:

- wait for the first patch to be released before purchasing

They said it has something to do with bad sectors on certain peoples hard drives, which is why it's only happening to some people.

Probably because, with such small drives, people are having to delete, redownload, delete, redownload, delete, et al...indefinitely.

I know my HDD has been put through its paces. I'm surprised it hasn't failed.

I tried clearing my HDD cache (using the x, x, LB, RB, x, x code on the system blade. Some people say this fixes the problem, but for me it only fixed it for one race. I noticed the first race always runs fine for me. All subsequent races start to stutter.

Gamestop refused to swap it out because I had opened it. Champions of customer service, those people! Looks like I will be awaiting the patch!

Enjoying Bourne for now and then Metal Gear next week in the meantime!

I picked this up for PC rather than 360...boy, am I glad I did. The PC version has worked flawlessly for me so far. Other than some lag in multiplayer, I haven't had any other trouble. It's amazing the framerates I'm getting with this game. It's silky smooth with all the graphics settings on either high or ultra.

Some information, since I cannot edit my initial post.

Example of what the typical session is like (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEThdWIovtU)

More severe example - total crash (UK Version) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQwo2vjwRJg)

Replay video from US version, very severe stuttering (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82iC7uyPQaY)

Codemasters acknowledging the issue and promising a patch soon. (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=143964)

I'm glad bbv didn't get this for sale yet and was able to see this post. I can wait until patch comes out.

is it just the 360 that has freeze issues? only online or for single player?

How the fuck do they let a game ship like this?

Is this really a fix?

The fix:

1 - Copy your Xbox Profile onto a memory card along with your Grid game save.

2 - Delete the Grid save game from your HDD (but make sure you have it on memory card as I said above)

3 - Restart the Grid game and when it asks what storage device you want to use, select the memory card

4 - Problems gone!

The problem is caused by incorrect caching of the replay to the HDD and Codemasters know of the problem and are working on a fix, probably released within the next 10 days.

Not only replays are affected!

Supposedly it only happens on 360s with faulty/bad sectors on the hard drive; since they tested the game on systems with "good" drives the freezing probably never happened.

Yes, shameful QA didn't go to a psychic to predict this.

Myself and another 7 friends all bought this on 360. None of us have this problem. I haven't experienced any hiccups. Strange.

Buy the game, it's fantastic :D

Codemasters FTL... This really isn't uncommon with them. I'm surprised the other versions aren't experiencing the same problems.

They can't really just go and blame it on peoples hard drives when those same drives aren't causing problems in any other games. I'm pretty excited about this game, gonna grab it for my shiny new gunmetal gray PS3 next week.

I just finally played the GRID demo on Xbox Live and I wasn't impressed. Yeah, it looked great and the cars seemed to handle good. It just didn't feel as magical as DiRT did. I consider DiRT one of my favorite racers of all time.

<snip>...it looked great and the cars seemed to handle good.</snip>

Whilst I won't disagree with you on it looking great, especially the replays, the handling of the cars completely put me off purchasing the game.

There is no way that a real car going full speed down the straight can have the brake just jabbed and then go into a 90 degree turn, which I did countless times playing the V8 level of the demo. To me the game is an arcade racer, not an arcade-simulator (like PGR) or a simulator (like Forza).

It's great if you like arcade racers, but handling characteristics was definitely on the low-priority list for the devs.

DiRT was, and indeed still is, an excellent driving game.

Man, some people just cannot take a single bad word about their 360, can they?

Too bad they released the game with this bug, but it sounds like they will have a fix relatively soon. I thought about picking this up on Steam, seeing as I like arcade-style racers much, much more than sims, but I have so many other things to play.

who cares about the 360, grid made its way to steam yesterday...

woot!

This game should not be classified as a simulation, because the physics have more of an arcade feel to them to me.
