A while ago Keiji Inafune of Capcom accidentally slipped up (http://www.n4g.com/News-53985.aspx)the mention of the existence of a PC version of their upcoming survival horror shooter. It seems its almost official now, Jun Takeuchi reveals in this interview/preview at Eurogamer :

A key point for Resident Evil's long-term fans, given its PlayStation heritage, is how the PS3 build is doing, and Takeuchi says it's "proceeding smoothly". Asked why we're only being shown 360, he says that the main development platform is the PC and when Capcom asked him to provide a console-based demonstration for Captivate 08 it was simply quicker to port the current build to 360 because of its similarity to the PC...Lots of more juicy gameplay details in the preview. Check it out. (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=144133)

hmm, PC based RE5 multiplayer. I like the sound of that.

As long as it's better than that craptastic port of RE4. Comeon, you couldn't even give us mouse support??

At least they patched in lighting. ;)

I think it's because of their new engine tech they made for dead rising and lost planet that works on pc and 360 and probably have a ps3 port in the works.

It actually works pretty good to develop on a non-target platform because it forces you to make good cross platform decisions when programming, not to mention the savings on dev kits.

While this may be true for their ports. The mention of the PC version being the lead SKU has me (unfairly) optimistic. :o

Stop the presses, developers use PC's to create games.

Or... you know, they just render their models on it, write the scripts and run them on console dev kits?

I actually played and loved RE4 on PC, it supported 1920x1200 res, didnt look all that bad either. I used the 360 PC controller to play it, wish it had mouse support tho. Oh I don't think we'll be seeing a PC version for dead rising for a while, I think capcom is still dealing with the George Romero lawsuit over that game.

Where did it say that?

Mostly their menus are horrible, and their PC engine is kinda shitty in terms of performance to graphics. This is a console game that will happen to have a PC release, I don't expect any UI changes other than the icon on the screen for Hit A, even then it might not change.

In the part quoted in the OP?

And yeah, but Lost Planet, despite looking like an average port... was a huge step up from their usual offerings when it comes to PC ports. I think that with the announcements of Bionic Commando, Dark Void, SF4, the digitally distributed remakes and now this... they seem atleast a little serious this time around. Also, don't forget that a company named SourceNext is to blame for all the horrible Capcom game ports that their rep is tarnished for. So far as I know, SN doesn't have anything to do with any of Capcom's titles now.

Dark Void I know will be fine on PC, as it's by a North American studio that I am really sure has some people who are familiar with what the fuck a good PC game needs. Street Fighter 4 PC... you will need a controller I am fairly certain. It's the 3rd person shooters like RE5 and Bionic Commando by the Japanese studios that probably have never done PC game making before that I'd worry about.

Lost Planet was pretty well done... though RES 4 continued the tradition of crap console ports since RES 1.

Maybe this time they won't mess it up.

SF4 was developed on the PC. My guess is either a) they use the same engine or b) this guy mixed up RE5 with SF4.
