Oh baby, we've got it.
The extended server maintenance session has turned out to be an all-around success; the RP-PvP servers have indeed gone live alongside v1.7.0. As I promised earlier, we've obtained a copy of the patch notes (http://www.filerush.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=11886#11886) and, as an added bonus, we've added the patch to File Rush (http://www.filerush.com/) so that you don't have to wait all day to download the patch.

Nerf rogues!
Nerf rogues!
They did. :D
I think its interesting that with each new content, they give us some new instance or battleground and some new Sims type content... like dressing rooms and fishing tournaments. Something for the boys and something for the girls. Boys love to dress!

While they're fixing jacked up loot tables - how about Slimes over level 10 get some appropriate loot? Kinda silly that slimes in Un'Goro are dropping the same crap as slimes in Stonetalon.
Or how about itemizing Silithus sometime before they put a raid instance or quests down there?
Mages got something this patch. Head to the mage tower in Azshara and pick up your +damage necklace, or off-hand item. Not the same as a bug fix, but it's better than a kick in the balls. Oh wait, we got that too. Really, if they don't want us to cast lower level spells, why don't they remove the old ranks and make em scale like Blink?
Yeah, we keep old ranks as a 'benefit' of being a caster class. Unless we actually want to use them. In which case, it's not really a benefit at all. It's just clutter.

Only 3 more major content updates before they have to start calling it World of Warcraft 2.

I think a good way to do it would be if your target is level 10 and you can only cast the level 3 version (that being the best they can have) (all examples) you automatically cast that spell, assuming you have it in your spell book. I think there is an add-on that does this but I think it would be good functionality for the main client.

Rogues for teh win!
Every Hunter on the WoW boards were complaining about this new patch and I've been terrified of its going-in ever since. Well, I had to re-work the tree (as it automatically forces you too) but it's brilliant. Hunters are now far far more balanced and not just ranged damage dealers. Our range is still there for the most, however the Survival side of our tree has been totally overhauled and it's brilliant. I have a feeling I'm going to be soloing much easier now.
Just goes to show people should actually use something and give it a whirl before calling for a company's head.

If you'd have read the Battleplan II that was posted a little while back, you would have read that Mages are getting an overhaul down the road as well. So just sit tight and accept that this is an MMORPG and it's gonna take a little while to get to every class.
Oh and Mages rock.

I have not been able to log in yet... ..well.... ..mostly because I am waiting in the qeue. Did you have any problems soloing as a hunter? I never even had a slight problem with it. By far the easiest and fastest to solo for me. I can't wait to try out some of the new tree though. How do the new pet skills work? do I need to go capture more animals to get the skills?

Warrior didn't get too much love but that "Retaliation, Recklessness and Shield Wall will no longer be cancelled if you switch stances while the effect is active." is a small victory my friend. A victory none the less.

I never really had a problem soloing per se but my melee attacks left a good deal to be desired as Hunters were (for the most) set to be ranged fighters. They still are, but with the reworking of the Survival tree, melee attacks are given a much stronger focus and if played properly, I can handle three or four mobs if needed. So, with the new stats and such, I find myself able to solo easier is all.
I'm oddly partial to the pets I pick up so I haven't had a chance to try out any of the other pet skills that can be acquired though I'm pretty sure cats can now use stealth which is fantastic if you stealth your pet and then use Eyes of the Beast. Currently, the pet that I have out that I'm running around with is a Silverback so I haven't gotten to run around with my Snow Leopard yet to see. The Beast Mastery tree didn't appear to get touched though or, if it did, it isn't changing anything for me one way or the other. Have noticed that my pet is eating a ridiculous amount of food though. Far more than he ever did before.
Also, some new Hunter specific quests have been added and I'm playing some of those right now. The one I'm on is a chain, so we'll see where it goes. At 57, it's green to me. Still, nice to see some new specific quests as the last one that Hunters had was at level 10, heh.

Anyone know a goot place to get UI updates? Curse gaming is overloaded, as is the WoW forums (as usual)...

GrinR: Try ui.worldofwar.net
Hunters ALREADY had it easy with soloing. I might roll one to see how fast I can hit 60, and /played once there.

Hunters were made a much more complete class. They now are useful to teams. Before, when organizing a Raid, they were dead last on my desire list. Now they bring something to the table besides consistant ranged DPS.

Well, i've played Arathi Basin, I've killed bosses in Zul'gurub, and i've seen my 47 gnome warrior chick with the Grand-Marshal PvP weapons.
and best of all, the servers were stable and playable all night long.

Kind of sad that so many of the things that were made up for that 1.8 "leaked" patch notes are things that should have been in the game months ago... and they're still nowhere to be seen in Blizzard's real world.

What did they change regarding casting lower level spells? Didn't see this.
Movement impairing effects are resisted based on spell level now, rather than caster level.
So you can't use lower-ranked Frost Nova for mana-cheap rooting. Or lower ranked Frost Shock for mana-cheap snaring.
Which is fine. It was kinda lame before anyway.
But how about they take that crap out of my spellbook now, if I can't ever cast it?
Also, it remains to be seen what this means for PvE with CC spells that don't get their max rank at 60.
E.g. Will more lvl 60 mobs resist Frostbolt's snare now, because it's max rank is only a lvl 56 spell?

That patch would have ruined the game. Warriors retaining rage without a talent? Paladins having 100% tankability? It seemed happy and nice for all classes, but it would have killed all PvP and PvE balance - unless they made the enemies impossible to compensate.

Those 1.8 patch notes were a serious fricking waste of time. It has this spiel about improving paladin DPS while giving them more weaknesses but all the stuff listed was buffs, no balance that I can see.
To have TM people shouldn't be forced to spec in Arms.

Heh, I wasn't really talking about all the class balancings - they were crazy in some cases. No, I was talking about (In my opinion) common sense implementations:
- Clicking a meeting stone will pop-up a screen that shows the name, level and class of everyone who is looking for a group
- See how many players are waiting in a queue for any given battleground, both factions
- Dishonorable kills only go to the one actually performing the kill, not the group as a whole
- On PvP servers, killing players more than 10 levels under you will result in a dishonorable kill
- Warsong Gulch exploits fixed
- Auction houses in all capitals and connected again
- Keyrings!
- Dying in an undiscovered zone will not send you to the nearest graveyeard but instead to the nearest known graveyard
- Disenchanting uncommon, rare or epic items requires more than just journeyman enchanting
- A single 'Accessories' tab for trinkets, cloaks and other miscellaenia
- Goblin security in Ratchet tightened to discourage sniping low-levels on the docks
- More minigames/events like the Gadgetzan Goblin Gizmo Gauntlet
- Account-based friends list instead of character-based, allowing you to leave notes with each friend
- A similar enemy list with notes for each character
Seriously, these are all things I've more or less been expecting to see in the game, but they never happen. As an example, I find it silly to add someone as a friend for each of my characters... why not just a global friends system? Better yet, try and integrate it with the mail system - You'd be able to see if you had new mail from any of your friends in that very window (You'd still have to claim it from a mailbox though).
Or dishonorable kills... at this point they mean absolutely zero, and I don't see any hints from Blizzard that they are gonna make them have any impact on players whatsoever. If DKs were properly attributed to low-level player killings and players would possibly lose reputation or, I dunno... taxes, then it would at least be a step in the right direction. I understand that PvP servers are just about killing each other... but at least make the lvl 60 gankers think twice before stomping on the poor defenseless low-level players that are trying to finish a quest or something.
With all the resources that Blizzard have available I'm very disappointed. But I still play the game and enjoy it for what it is - but it could be more polished in many places.
