We already know about the Prince of Persia movie (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51683) (hitting theaters July 2009). We already know about the new, rebooted Prince of Persia game (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49609) (set for later this year). But might there be even more Princely goodness on the way? Yes there may (http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/triple-play-of-new-prince-entertainment/?biz=1).

According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot his company will also be making a game based on the Disney movie (which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Artertonas) which is itself based on the Sands of Time games. The movie, written by PoP creator and owner Jordan Mechner, is the first in a planned trilogy of movies, although it won't be a "beat-for-beat" retelling of the story from the games.

This is actually a pretty ingenious way for Ubisoft to have it's cake and eat it too. They can produce a wholly new Prince game for this fall, while having another game the next year that does use the time manipulation mechanic.

I like the fact that the creator of the PoP series is writing the movie. This means it's already starting off well. Hopefully it'll continue down this path and maybe start a trend of good game-to-movie conversions much like Marvel has done with their IP's.

Isn't this what we call "milking" a franchise?

In PoP's case, it's a franchise that's not had enough milking, imho.

I assume this is going to be available on ALL platforms, seeing as it going to be literally, a movie game. PS2, NDS, PSP included?

How does this work?
Normally a publisher pays for the Videogame license to a movie. This time the game is based on a movie that was based on a game?

I'm dizzy.

I'm dizzy.PoP is a pretty unique case, since the property is not owned by a company but an individual: Jordan Mechner. So he licensed it to Disney to make a movie, and Ubisoft to make games (and they're making comics of it too, but I can't remember which company off hand). It sounds like this new title has to have both licenses: the game and the movie.

Next they're going to a movie based on the game based on the movie based on the game. Then there'll be a game tie-in.

Ok, but usually, when a developer spends on the license they ahve to trim costs somewhere else. Like programmer or Designer assets. That's why most Movie Games suck.

So does that mean that Ubi has to spend to:
1. License the game from Jordan
2. License the Movie from Disney
3. License the actors likenesses from their agents.
?

Meh, if I want one. It's the new one, not the one based on the movie. And I don't want that one either.

I'm hyped for the new original game. That art style looks awesome.

Know what this needs? Some viral marketting crap.

The movie-game will also suck, as it's a game based on a movie based on a game.

It can be argued that they already have a game engine that's been tweaked for three games now (Lower overhead?). That's why PoP:The Game:The Movie: The Game may not suck so much.

I can only imagine imagine PoP 1 having combat (and bosses?) like PoP 3, and maybe a little more tweaking, budget permitting.

*Sigh* maybe I just miss having time powers in my Prince of Persia..

Dude they gave the prince a name. Nothing is starting off well at all.

Well, at least it's not the first time this has been done. Remember the horror that was Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game?

Next they're going to a movie based on the game based on the movie based on the game. Then there'll be a game tie-in.

Then next is the Spike Jonze movie about Jordan Mechner's struggles creating Prince of Persia and how the game allegorically represents what was happening in his life.
