Simlar to the Microsoft situation with the power cords, Sony announces problems with the AC Adaptors on certain slimline PS2's.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced a voluntary recall of certain AC Adaptors supplied with the black slimline PlayStation2.

Certain AC Adaptors, identified as manufactured between August 2004 and December 2004, and supplied with the black slimline PlayStation 2 models SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004 may overheat and cause an injury hazard to consumers. It is likely that some of these units may have been on sale after this date. No other PlayStation 2 units are affected.

As a precautionary measure, and to ensure the quality and safety of PlayStation products for consumers, SCEE has taken the decision to recall all affected AC Adaptors in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Australasia.

As a precautionary measure, SCEE advises consumers owning one of the AC Adaptors affected by this Notice to unplug the PlayStation 2 from the mains power supply and discontinue use until a replacement AC Adaptor is provided, for more information visist ps2ac.com (http://www.ps2ac.com)

could be :) but I've noticed alot more of this recall stuff , not sure if they are new laws or not, but I recently bought a laptop and had to send that battery back because it 'might' over heat.

Has anyone used a PS2 slim for hardcore gaming, that is * a lot * of gaming in very long sessions? I've heard about overheating issues and disc read errors with it, especially after a few months of use. I've noticed Sony seems to have released at least 3 revisions of the slim console so far (SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004). Anyone up to date on the changes and improvements, as well as the general reliability of the slims?

To me the slim load times are horrible compared to the non-slim, probably because of those heating problems.

It looks like this only effects the Europe models, wonder if the ones here in the US have any issues? Anyone have problems with that part?

Yeah, the adaptor is free, Sony sends you a prepaid package to return the problem one as well.

I have a slim Japanese PS2 (adapter not recalled, btw) I use to play Beatmania. I use it about 2 hours nearly every day and some days longer if I have friends over. Never had a disc read error yet.

This isn't as heavy usage as, say, some back-to-back 8 hour RPG sessions though.
