View Full Version : Weekend Gamer: What are you playing?

Jetherik

The weekend is here and the eternal questions is asked: What are you playing this weekend? I plan on some Neverwinter Nights 2, Wii Boom Blox, and some Wii Fit. What are you going to be playing?

Thanks to Spigot for filling in last week.

Penny Arcade, GTA4, and maybe more CoH.

I'm close to finishing off MGS 3...I really learned to hate Volgin. That bastage just...wouldn't....die! Other than that, I'm hoping to get in some Unreal Tournament 3, continue the Orc campaign in Warcraft 3...and find something else with a 3 in it to play.

Party on saturday, so I'll be playing the beer drinking game. Sunday I'll probably be wasted.

Some GTA and DMC4 maybe.

More MGS3 in preparation for 4. This is my second playthrough, I just finished off The Pain. Other than that I really need to get in some FFXI, I just haven't had the time at all lately. Oh, and some Bioshock if the mood strikes me.

Don't know if I'll have much time for gaming this weekend.

Big anniversary party Saturday evening/night. Need to figure out how to drink $600 worth of wine, champagne, beer and Single-Malt Scotch. I figure eating will just slow me down. Lots of prep time for the shindig all Sat. afternoon.

My oldest daughter flies in from NYC this morning! YAY!

Nice sunny day for a roundabout motorcycle ride home from work this afternoon. Had the thing for 2 weeks and I'm already looking at 500 miles! Temp was in the high 40's on the way in this morning: Heated handgrips and seat are SWEET!

Might try to get some time in on Jade Empire on Sunday evening.

My copy of Age of Conan just arrived in the mail so I'll be installing that later today and hopefully playing all weekend. Other than that, I might play some random 360 or handheld games or perhaps some WoW, but I'm not sure what right now.

When I'm not at work it'll be a fuck-ton of AoC.

If I fell the need to mix it up a bit then maybe some GTAIV or possibly load up Mass Effect for the pc.

Got a party on sunday, so most of my gaming will be tonight and sat night.

Probably hit up some CoD 4, GTA 4, NHL 08. Might be getting Quake Wars and get into some of that. Some Wii gaming is in there as well....

I'm piddling around with TWEWY a bit, giving it another shot. My girlfriend and I watched half of Firefly on Wednesday, and I'm hoping she'll be able to come up either tonight or tomorrow and watch the rest (maybe stick around for Serenity as well). I've also gotten her interested in the Monkey Island series, which makes her win. That about sums up my weekend.

Will probably play a little Phantasy Star Online (single player mode). Picked up the game for $8 and think it is at least worth that much. It's a nice graphical update from the Dreamcast version. But it sucks that they used the outdated "hunter's license" model. The game could have been a real success with free online co-op.

Also probably playing some more Small Arms with friends, a game we all just discovered and are having a blast with. Definitely worth the 400 points. I also got Bioshock from Gamefly to give it another chance, might play a little of that and a little co-op Ikaruga.

Age of Conan whenever I can fit it in. Darned wife and kids!

Greeble
05-30-2008, 08:33 AM
Silly Jetherik, wii fit isn't a game, you don't "play" wii fit. Anyway what I'd like to do is finish Crisis Core and work on MGS 3 (first play through need to finish before MGS 4) What I'll probably do is play GTA IV and DotA though.

Probrably going to play some more NWN2:MotB. I am enjoying it but its a bug ridden wank fest of a game. I cant alt-tab away from the game or it crashes and for some reason it kills my network connection and I have to reboot to get back online.

NWN2 is perhaps the most bug ridden game I have actually finished and MoTB doesnt seem much better. Obsidian should feel much shame over this.

Also have Lost Odyssy rented but I doubt I will play it much. The game had better get a hell of alot better as the opening is pretty f'ing boring sofar.

Going back to the stack this weekend:

Quake 4 (PC)...almost finished.

Gears of War (360)...restarting

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (PC)...trying to start

Other than that:

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (360)...still can't get enough of this game.

Going to play some more Gran Turismo 5: Prologue with my new Driving Force GT wheel, and probably hunt some more pigeons in GTA4. Might also do some killin' in CoD4. And finish up the 150cc races in Mario Kart Wii.

I may not do anything really useful this weekend... awesome.

rFactor, Live For Speed and Race 07. I recently got a G25 wheel/pedal set, which has made the high end open wheel cars much easier to turn fast laps with than using the triggers and small stick on a 360 controller.

Hot Shots Golf on the PSP. I just got it a few days ago, that game is like crack.

The only game with a permanent slot on my memory stick.

Think I'm going to watch season 3 and season 4 of House this weekend instead of gaming. Might play some AoC too, might as well try to get my money's worth out of the first(and only)month.

I started Psychonauts on the PC last weekend. Hopefully I can get through some more of it, it's a really awesome game and considering I got it for around $5 at Big Lots! I am enjoying it even more.

I also picked up Mario Kart at the request of my fiancee as an early birthday present for her. We have been playing it pretty much every free moment. I have a feeling there will be a lot of karting action this weekend.

Also, on Saturday, my buddy is coming over and I think we might try and play Marvel: Ultimate Alliance on the 360. He picked up the Heroes/Villains pack and I really want to go around smashing things as the Hulk. It should be a good gaming weekend.:D

Fatal Frame is a good game...and yes it is tough...pain in the ass tough...Ms. Claus helped me through it, making me play to see the end of that story...I can't believe it still sells for $40...

More GTA:IV. I might actually go for 100%, however doing it the slow way doing everything along the way with the unfolding plot...i'm hoping I get done before MGS 4 comes out...

The difficulty is fine (spirits are fast!). It's more the interface, and how as soon as you touch a spirit, encounters in tight spaces where the camera will obscure your view, and automatically receiving damage among some other observations.

Regardless, well worth the money. :)

Good luck! Shooting can be a lot of fun. My dad and I have been doing it every now and then for years and we really enjoy it. Just be careful and follow the safety guidelines. If you haven't taken a safety course I suggest you do. I've seen some people do some dumb things with guns when all they had to do was pay attention and none of it would have happened.

My Life as a King, Banjo Kazooie, Mario Kart Wii, Boom Blox, and the World Ends With You are on my "must-play" list. There's a shit-ton to play besides that (FFX-2, Okami, Quadradius, Brawl, Bombastic, FFXII, DQVIII, etc.), but I'm doubtful that any of those will get any of my valuble playtime.

I guess I'll play some GTAIV and perhaps finally get back to playing some SSB for the Wii.

I'm already done with my MGS series playthrough. I kinda cheated by counting the MGS3 and MGS:PO playthroughs I did over the last couple of years and just doing MGS1 and 2 from the Essential Collection.... hey, it's in correct MGS chronological order!

I'll be working toward finishing Etrian Odyssey, since the sequel is coming soon, and also working on finishing the main narrative of GTA IV before MGS4 hits. I think I have quite a ways left to go...

Well, the actress in Series 1 from the 19th century that sacrafices herself, she was Gweneth in Torchwood. I am pretty sure the black news chick from the space station was the cyberwoman in Torchwood. Thats the kind of thing I am noticing.

Then again, there is already a fair bit of cross over, obviously Capt Jack.

You clarified exactly why I found it tough/pain in the ass/want to throw controller type moments...but agreed $40 is worth the price. I imagine it's going for more on ebay or something.

As for my continued obsession of GTA...I think I need my head examined to actually want to get 100% in this game. Finding and stealing cars for someone...ugh...but i'm liking this GTA much more than I did San Andreas (which I loved till the plane school missions).

I loved Phantom Hourglass except for that bloody Temple Of The Ocean King. By the time you get to the end of it, it's not nearly as bad as the first couple of attempts but dear lord, whoever though that it was a great design choice to have you have to saunter through the same sections AND have to reopen doors, etc. that you'd already opened on your prior attempts needs to be slapped.

That said, the final boss fight was cool and the end of the game was pretty sweet.

If you liked the demo, you'll probably like the full game except for the fact that there aren't a lot of different enemies and the fact that you've essentially experienced all of the abilities aside from a few different special weapons.

If you didn't like the demo, you probably won't like the full game.

It's a solid 6-7/10 game in my book. Nothing spectacular but it's not an inherently bad game.

Playing GRID on 360 and having a lot of fun with it. Played a ton of multiplayer yesterday on it and it's funny to hear you friends say 'what the fuck' as his car disintigrates in a cloud of debris in a pile up.

Single player is good also with great AI which gives good exciting races. Also seems to bear a grudge if you have a rival team against yours or if you treat em rough. I also like the way the sponsers give you other objectives in a race apart form just finishing first.

It gets the arcade / sim combination just right.

Great stuff. Anyway back to GRID :)

Tbh I didn't find the temple repition issue "that" much of a problem. After a couple of rounds I completed each level in less than a minute or so.
This was my first encounter with a Zelda game and I found it to be very pleasing.

In what ways are the previous releases similar to this. I mean do they have temples/dungeons or whatever where you have to repeat them?

I have to agree with you the final boss was fun to play against :). At some point I thought the game ended when soon you realise that you have another encounter.

I really enjoyed the different tools/weapons the game offered especially the hammer and grappling hook. Now that the game is over, I have to see what's next on my list. I'm thinking of starting with the Castlevania series.

The other Zelda games rarely had dungeons that you had to visit more than once. There would be areas where you'd have to backtrack and revisit but not to the extent that Phantom Hourglass took the concept of backtracking and raised it to the core game mechanic... but not in the fun way that Metroid does backtracking.

It's not a bad game but for someone who has been playing Zelda games since the first one, it was a little mind-numbing and not nearly as good a design move as the dungeon layouts in the other Zelda games.

I'm jealous of lallous and how he gets to go through and play other, older Zelda games now for the first time ever. Such a good feeling.

You can get A Link To The Past and The Minish Cap for the GBA (they play in the DS, obviously), the former being the best game in the series.

Gorvi's right.

If you do get a Wii, I highly recommend Ocarina Of Time and Wind Waker.

If you ever are looking for something a little bit different in the Zelda series, it'd be wise to check out Majora's Mask. That's one strange game...but it's my favorite entry in the series.

That's one strange game...but it's my favorite entry in the series.Isn't that the truth. It's a great game but so vastly different in tone and style from the other games it's hard to remember that it's actually a Zelda game.

I wish Twilight Princess had been more in line with something like Majora's Mask than Ocarina 2.0. Oh well.

There's a reason why Wind Waker is my favourite 3D Zelda game.
