Ultimate Spider-Man allows players to take on the role of Spider-Man AND super-villain Venom in an original storyline. Dive into an immersive adventure as you experience a living comic-book illustrated with 3D Comic Inking Technology. WorthPlaying (http://www.worthplaying.com) had a chance to get some hands on time with a near final build, here is a snip :
Venom can’t web-swing in the Ultimate storyline, so he’s been given a super-jump and a special "tentacle-zip" move to help him navigate the city. He’s also much stronger than Spidey; Venom can literally snap people in half, pick up and throw cars around, and he cracks the ground underneath his feet whenever he lands. He is, in short, to quote the developers, "all about massive destruction."

Looking forwards to this quite a bit, crazy on the September releases this year though.

So far, my must-have games of September are Ultimate Spider-man, Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes, and Battalion Wars. Damn!

Video games are a natural transition for Super Heroes but can I get a decent Sandman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sandman_%28DC_Comics_Modern_Age%29) or Preacher (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preacher_%28comics%29) game?
Noooo....that would be too risky. Better to stick with beating dead horses.

Heh. I wonder how they'd do a Sandman game? Could be very interesting if pulled off right, but they'd have to give it the right devs. Hideo Kojima, anyone?

Does Sandman have cardboard boxes that you can hide in? Does the main character eat snakes and shoot beehives? If not, I doubt Kojima would be interested in the property.

The Maxx (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Maxx) would also be nice.

The Maxx really wouldn't translate that well into a game... <.< I mean, I love The Maxx.. I have him and an Iz sitting right here on my desk. But it's just not a game-comic.

But... but... Venom can webswing in the Ultimate universe!

Oh god yes. I think it would make a great game in the right hands. We've seen how psychotic storytelling can work in a game, like Killer 7. It could be done well here too.

Venom not web swinging is like Spider-Man without the angst. It's just not cricket.

Sorry Perigon, but I'm thinking that The Maxx would translate very well into a comic. I haven't played Killer 7 like FunkyPoopMonkey mentions, but I'm thinking a huge open Outback, being chased by something when suddenly you pass a newsstand in the middle of nowhere, then a few cars pass you (almost hitting you,) then bam, one does. You fly up in the air and land on a streetcorner in a large streaming city (a la Spidey, GTA) no longer being chased. Maxx has slowly regained his sanity and the world changed to reflect it.
But then again, I think that it shouldn't be another retelling of Julie/Sara. Instead about Julie's son Mark in the new world after the book ended. Maybe Iago lived? Maybe the fractured attempts that made Mr. Gone carried over? I dunno what a game could be, but I loved that book and would be interested in a game.

Ah-ha, but only the main character of MGS3 eats snakes and shoots beehives!
Anyways, Kojima's been involved in more than just the MGS series and his interests are certainly much broader than just that.
I'm thinking if Gaiman gave rights for them to do a Sandman game, though, he'd maybe want a British developer to do it. Any good British dev teams? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

The Venom suit could web-swing with Peter Parker in it. I don't think we have a definitive answer on whether it can with Eddie Brock in it.
Unless of course it's in one of the newer books that isn't in hardcover yet.

As far as I know Venom didn't really "websling" in the USM comics. Now when spiderman has the costume he uses it to websling, but that's because he's spiderman and in the USM universe he's got organic webshooters. When Venom is born though, I don't recall him truly webslinging around.
Oh and where's my badass Avengers game dammit? I'd love to see something with the look of Marvel Nemesis:RotI with gameplay more akin to X-Men Legends.

I'd love a Sandman game, but I can't bring myself to believe that it might actually be good.

I've been waiting for this for months, I was even going to get it before I knew you could play as Venom, and that just sealed the deal

He totally webswings! When Peter was leading him to the city. All I have is the hardcover collection, and there are no page numbers, or I would just point it out to you, but I am looking at a picture of him webswinging as I type this.
First i would like too thanks for ppl bring back my memories of The Maxx which i only saw the mtv series. I'm look'n forward too this game. Treyarch seems too do 'playbox' genre of games pretty well. reading this only reminds of Dead Rush (http://cube.ign.com/objects/683/683527.html) the game they cancel'd, but oh well just one of those 'what if?' games.

I believe an Avengers game will be coming. Marvel signed a deal with some company to keep creating X-Men Legends-esque RPG games for console with their various properties.

Actually, Ultimate Spider-Man still has mechanical web-shooters. "Mainstream" (Earth 616) Spider-Man pretty recently acquired organic web-shooters. Marvel's just wacky that way. :)

Whaaaat? Are you sure? It's been a long time since I've read the Ultimate Spider-Man origin stuff, but I pretty specifically remember him having organic webbing and being pretty turned off by it.
And if the mainstream Spider-Man has organic now, when'd he get it? Have been behind on that too.

No, they are mechanical, and based on an adhesive his dad was making.

He got them in the Spectacular Spider-Man about 6-8 months ago but here's the status on them from an interview (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=5721)on CBR (http://www.comicbookresources.com/) with Joe Quesada...
Because of the inconsistent reaction to the web-shooters, they aren’t necessarily acknowledged in all of the books. “We don't contradict what happens in 'Amazing,' but we don't affirm it.”

Huh. Weird. Probably just me equating the Ultimate U with the movie U which I tend to do sometimes.
