Behold, the power of the X360 final kits in action:
http://www.kubrickian.com/GhostReconAW.jpg
8 new pics are availible on BlimbBlim's excellent Xboxyde.com (http://www.xboxyde.com/news_1972_en.html). Also, a new ingame video is up on Xboxworld.nl (http://www.xboxworld.nl/news/7279/). It's the E3 presentation running on a final kit. The lighting, animation and pretty much everything else is mind-blowing.
Enjoy!
UPDATE: Wondering how Ubisoft managed to create that impressive explosion in the video? Want a nice animated GIF of the explosion? Download this GIF I made that sheds some light on this impressive effect. It's 2 MB's (http://www.kubrickian.com/GhostRecon.gif).

Advanced Warfighter is the US army's term for the technology being used in the game. It involved the in helmet visual aid, networking and lightweight, heavy duty armor. It will be availible to US troops in the next 5 years or so.
Then again, I doubt you really care, you just wanted to troll and that's all you could come up with. ;)

Holy Crap. That was already one of the games I was most looking forward to but..... Holy Crap. That game just looks too cool. Online should be an absolute blast.
This is off topic, but the movie gives me an idea of how combat in Halo 3 might play out, especially the animation. I expect the visuals to surpass it, hopefully.
Although, seeing as how Halo 3 will be designed as a networked-shooter, just like Halo 2, I'm not so sure about the visuals.
The movie also leads me to believe that the creation of a real-life 'super-soldier' is only decades away.

Just because the military came up with the name doesn't make it less gay. Jeeze Louis the game looks great I just think the name is dumb
Edit: Also what is up with the trend of troll hunting on the boards now. The boards are pretty troll free I think. Anyhoo got to get back to my wolfbagging.

Amazing screens. Not my kinda game, but nice screens.
Is it just me, or are most games these days some kind of military simulation? Are next-gen consoles going to be higher fidelity models running around blowing each other up in a higher resolution? I play games to have fun, not to kill people with greater realism. Why it always gotta be about killin?

Last I heard it certainly was. The last one in the series, they cancelled on PC though.
As for it being different, well, if it's still at heart the same game, I don't care. The only things so far that make me want a 360 are coming out on PC too, and my PC is better than a 360 so... Basically, so far, it's Oblivion and this. Also, I can't stand playing FPS' on a controller. Half the reason (two thirds I guess) I hated Halo.

Doubt your PC is better than a 360. It may be before too long, but not now.
Where are people seeing aliasing problems? Is it the screenshots? I sure don't see it in the video.

My PC is better than an Xbox 360 because I can play games on it right now. Maybe in November the Xbox 360 will be better than my machine.
:D
Unless the video is at the actual resolution used for the capture, you won't see the jaggies due to aliasing. Usually, videos are downsampled to a smaller resolution, producing a poor-mans antialiasing.

I was under the impression that the first Xbox was supposed to have full-screen anti-aliasing. Developers never used the feature cause of the performance hit that antialiasing caused. They chose instead to have more polygons with jaggy edges instead of fewer polygons with soft edges.
Will we encounter the same thing again this generation; developers that decide not to use anti-aliasing because they want more complex worlds?
I'd rather have a smaller game world that is well crafted and presented instead of generic sprawling landscapes that all look like ass.
Not quite as good looking as the prerendered trailer at E3 though.

Not quite as good looking as the prerendered trailer at E3 though. That trailer wasn't pre-rendered. Why would they pre-render a trailer that has clipping issues? (a dude's head goes right through a tree in about the middle of that trailer).
Looking at just the pics (the video is giving me issues), I think the filter they're using is causing some issues in the still-shots.

Um. Violent video games aren't exactly anything new. In fact, violence as a form of entertainment probably goes as far back as humanity itself... most sports, gladiatorial fighting, violent movies, violent games.
Plus I can guarantee there will be plenty of racing/sports sims, puzzle games, and generally kid-friendly stuff for all the next-gen consoles.

funny those were the exact same screenshots released for the pc a few weeks ago, wonder if theyre the pc version screenshots......
BTW talk about jaggies. What the hell resolution is that at? 640x480 with blurr effect?
It was prerendered, the Ubisoft guys said so at GDC and they used the same trailer at E3 and the linked site is using the same trailer as well.
Not that it's impossible to render something like that in realtime, it just wont be playable in that way.

Screenshots were less than impressive, but the video was great (this seems to be the case for a lot of games recently). I dunno if i'm going to enjoy controlling that game on the 360, though.
Hey, what the hell kind of accent was that guy in the video sportin', anyway? Sounded like a French guy (Ubisoft) forcing an American accent.
Ok not sure what to make of it.
Now, on the one had they give us these f'ing incredible graphics ... but then they plaster a fugly HUD over the top. I could easily those graphics pulling me into the game but that HUD would snap me right back out. I dont really care if thats the kind of HUD Warfighter would actually use, its just a game, its not actually warfighter. That HUD is horrible.
As for the accent of the narrator, I was going to say a brit whose spent alot of time in the US and picked up a bit of an american accent. Or possibly the other way around. Certainly very muddled.
My...god, I knew the 360 was going to be the shit..but. Okay guys I need to collect myself.

It was using the ingame engine and precompiled, the same thing was done with Heavenly Sword for the PS3. The new video is the same presentation running on a Final X360 dev kit. In the old video the lighting was noticably worse and some effects are missing such as the drop down stencil shadows of the trees.
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2005/news/05/12/gr3_screen001.jpg
See the tree shadow? Or lack there-of? Compare that to the video and you'll see what I mean.
I saw this video at E3 when ubisoft was presenting it with some lame venice beach guy in a camo suit narrorating it, it was prerendered then its prerendered now, even the narrarotor in the video points that out.

Great graphics, but it seems like "cinematic" gameplay in the worst sense of the word. Let's hope all of the kneeling in one spot idly taking out enemies with auto-aim and 3 round bursts (while your genius AI pals and foes sit out in the open) isn't representative of much of the gameplay. But then this isn't my genre in the first place.
Was Metroid Prime the first to use that HUD style or were there games before then that did? I just want to mention that a lot of FPS games seem to have this HUD style now, but I didn't want to say "Metroid Prime's HUD style" without knowing for sure.

I think there's a definite argument that some game developers substitute graphics for gameplay, but I don't remember the last time the Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six games (both Ubisoft tactical shooters) were called out on that basis...

I hope I'll have more control over my squad members this time around in GR3.
I still miss the days of the first Ghost Recon where I could tell them where to go, and where to look so they could lay down cover or flank.
I also hate it that if you get more then 30+ feet apart, they disregard any order you told them and come running towards you. *sigh* GR2 is a great game, but the lack of "good" squad control kills me. And it's like I have 3 other random guns that might or might not shoot.
Its sad, even on the hard setting, with a normal rifle, the AR-8, in the after action report:
Me: 124 kills - 78 head shots
Total combined kills of the other 3 squad mates: 7 - 1 head shot.

OICWs (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as40-e.htm) are a lot bulkier and the kinetic component is under the grenade launcher.
The OICW is supposed to be the replacement for the M-16 with an M203 for the squad grenadier, the SCAR is supposed to be the new special forces weapon.
I found this HK416 (http://www.hkdefense.us/pages/military-le/rifles-carbines/hk416.html) on H&K's website as well that might be it, it looks a lot more like an M16 than the SCAR does.

If KillZone can look as good as the trailer, I"ll be very impressed. But you can't always trust Ken the Sony spin master. Its one thing to show off your game using a real game engine thru lots of hard work, then showing off a game with pre-rendered bullshit when your last console was going to bring "Toy Story" quality games into everybodies house.

Sorry if I'm mistaken or misinformed but I believe there were two trailers for this before.
One was obviously prerendered and involved the patrol walking along before a member was hit by a concealed sniper who was then shot through the wall by another squad member using his advanced warfighter tricks and the other seemed to be ingame on a beta kit showing the same footage as seen in the new trailer.
Don't know if that is what people are talking about by saying that ubisoft said the trailer was prerendered.

I wonder what classification this will get, I'm sure your 8 yr-old loves seeing intense violence, death, gore, war. He should be nicely accustomed when he reaches 10... maybe instead of telling him about sex, just get him to play PLAYBOY MANSION.
Though i suppose violence seems to be common-place these days.
:(
I don't mean to be a dick kel, but when games get criticised for being violent by wacko's like Jack Thompson, gamer's are always "Blame the parents!"

Ghost Recon is one of those games you can let your kids play, as long as you know they are playing it and supervising it. There is hardly any gore in Ghost Recon, shoot anybody and all that happens is a red puff from where you shot them. Language isn't all that bad - hell, all the previous versions of Ghost Recon got the Teen Rating. I'm betting they are going to keep thier track record and keep it a Teen Rating. Tho, I would love to see a Mature rated game.. but then who needs to see 93 headless corspes?
Its 100x better game a 8 year old kid to play then GTA/GTA:VC/GTA:SA. Which are Mature games anyways.

Microsoft was FURIOUS at NVidia because the original Xbox GPU chip didn't deliver the FSAA performance that NVidia promised in the original specs. If ATI is able to deliver as promised, then the 10mb buffer will allow FSAA for basically no performance tradeoff.

Umm...is it me or does the narrator of the video sound like the annoying DJ in Burnout 3?

Jack Thompson has never played a game in his life... That explains him. Most of have been doing headshots as far as we can remember. How many of us are bloodlust filled monsters?
I think most of us end up being snarky smartasses but not monsters.

I have one question:
Why the hell do I have to stare at the back of my character; which happens to take up 1/3rd of the screen?
3rd person is one thing, but this is... I don't understand how anyone can like this presentation. Feel free to disagree - I'm not saying it's wrong - I'm simply asking how having almost half of the view be covered by you, and the hud, makes for a "great" demonstration.

Looks like a take on a SCAR to me, a little longer with a grenade launcher. OICWs are a lot bulkier and the kinetic component is under the grenade launcher.
