I was at the Brothers In Arms site today, just doing my thing (http://www.brothersinarmsgame.com/us/earnedinblood.php) when I saw the Far Cry Instincts comic (http://www.farcrygame.com/us/community_pennyarcades.php). Then I thought, boy I don't want people who don't read Penny religiously to miss this! It's pretty funny, you know?

Better post it.

"Pop?" It's not "pop," people. It's coke. It's all coke. In example, an everyday conversation covering the use of 'coke':
Pal: Hey, want a coke?
Me: Sure, whatcha got?
Pal: Dr. Pepper, Mountaint Dew, and Sprite.
Me: Sprite!

It's like band-aid, damn it.

I like the art style of the comic. Seems nicely drawn for some reason.

Pop, Soda, Cola, Coke.. it is all the same. I use pop and soda myself, pop more often then not though.

Why post this before it's complete?

Depends on the region you live as to what you call it.

This was funny? *shrugs*

Nice artwork, I guess, but I don't see the point of trying to make the game have some kinda humorous edge on the plot.

Coke is rather brand-specific. I've never heard someone request a "Coke" when they meant an orange-flavored soda.

Yup, I agree. It's called pop here in Michigan for the most part. I went to Mississippi for a week and everything was coke. Grape coke, Red coke and all I wanted was a Pepsi and they wouldn't give me one! Ok, sorry bad joke.

The humor value increases if you read Penny Arcade regularly.

This one isn't overwhelmingly funny, but the point is that the guy is full of himself and rather clueless.

I'll admit to thinking Mercenaries stealing pop is funny. That and people getting hit in the neck with tranq darts. And yes, it's pop.

I've been in regions where 'coke' is the word for 'pop.' It made me afraid...

And I'd like to say that that first comic, and to a lesser extent the second one, are BY FAR the funniest of these 'special projects' that PA has done, with the singular exception of the Chaos Theory mock-manual, which was hysterical. That final frame of the guy holding up his can to the explodified boat, with that look? Had me in stitches...

It was, in fact, Penny Arcade that introduced this same site to me some time ago. I would like to point out that SODA, my personal favorite, easily tops the list. I can handle those that say pop, but the "coke" phenomenon makes me cringe.

I'm kinda hungry. Troll meat sounds pretty good. Goes well with Coke.

This has nothing to do with the people who make the game. It's just a thing the guys over at Penny Arcade (http://penny-arcade.com) like to do sometimes.

To use their words:

We’ve got a new comic project starting today over on the Far Cry Instincts page. Once again we’ve decided to deal with the shocking events of Jack’s life in a slightly more humorous way than the actual game. Our Jack is a regular guy whose eternal optimism is put to the test when what started as a perfectly good day goes to shit. I hope you guys like it.

What kind of coke?

I use the word soda, but only when asking someone else "Would you like a...?" Otherwise, when I'm making the request, I'm always specific - and I've noticed over time that the wait staff in restaurants 'round here tend to be very specific themselves. In fact, I tip a little extra for a server who answers my "large Coke" order with "We only have Pepsi, is that all right?" instead of saying "okay" and then coming back with a Pepsi. It's not that I don't like Pepsi, but I have to be prepared for it in advance. I'm weird...

Mr. Pibb, of course.

Out here on the west coast, it's soda. Sometimes it's soda pop, but only for formal occasions (that was a joke). It's only pop if you're from Mendocino and trying to sound twee. :p

Further proof that the man is an idiot, because Fresca is the best drink in the recorded history of drinks.

Juice. Thats what they call it round here.
As in, a can of juice. (which could refer to a Coke, Pepsi, Irn Bru or whatever)

Xaerin

Round these parts juice is referred only to still drinks, all others, if they must be referred to collectively would be fizzy drinks, but more often than not people just say the specific name.

Interesting, that we've spent the vast majority of discussion here on the naming of carbonated drinks, rather than the comic. Hmm...

As for the comic, I guess it helps if you're a PennyArcade fan?

IT helps a lot to remember that it is supposed to be a series of at least four comics... Those two are funny, but they're just the setup.

And it is Refrigerante.

Hmmm...

I ask people if they'd like a soft drink.

Chris_D

"soft drink" here too. I noticed it was "juice" in japan (they actually say the english word juice) which is just plain wrong. I have no problem with soda, but pop seems like a throw back to the 60s - based on american tv anyway :).
