SEGA today announced Sonic Riders, developed by Sonic Team Tokyo, which integrates Extreme sports, a high-speed racing and head-to-head battles, offering a new racing experience with Sonic which is unlike any before in other racing games.

In Sonic Riders, Dr. Eggman challenges Sonic and his friends to a Worldwide Grand Prix, and the prize for coming out on top is an ultra-rare Chaos Emerald! Gliding on air boards – which are performance-oriented for each playable character – gamers will experience a heightened sense of Extreme sports-style racing tension as Sonic and his pals perform tricks and stunts over treacherous wide-open terrain.Check more details and 32 Sonic Riders screens (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=28105) over at WorthPlaying.

What an original concept! Taking your mascot characters and putting them in a RACING game?

Wow, no one tell Nintendo. They'll come up with something stupid like putting Mario in a Go-Kart or something.

I laughed.

Also, this could be pretty cool. Bomberman Racing was pretty decent, so assuming Sega can pull this together.

If Sega can pull it off it could actually be a lot of fun. It's Sonic, so it'll probably be really fast. I like fast :)

Didn't they already do Sonic R?

Remeber kids, just say no to Extreme.

I think it could be good. They have an F-Zero futuristic style to it, seems to be fast, and there hasn't been a good hoverboarding game since TrickStyle in my opinion, so I'd like to see this turn out well.

This is assuming they don't screw it up, and considering Sega's track record since the Dreamcast's death (especially Sonic Team's bungling of anything they get their hands on), I'm not getting my hopes up.

To be honest I have always liked the Sonic Universe more than the Mario one.

Sonic Pinball Party ROCKS! Well, except that the table froze up after I had scored 3.9 billion points...

The plot-like introduction seems rather unnecessary. Or is Sonic unable to work without motivation?

Why would Eggman ever, um... want to give away one of his treasured Chaos Emeralds?

And beside that, this game will suck, the screenshots are just teeming with it.

Yeah, it seems the general Kafka-esque labarynthian motifs and machiavellian politicking of previous titles has been lost in this latest racing game about a walking, talking hedgehog and his furry friends. ;)

Firstly, everyone seems to forget about Kirby's Air Ride when this Sonic air board game is mentioned. ;)

Secondly there are no screens to see, it seems, unless it's a registered user only bit.

I never liked the eggman name... Dt. Robotnik atleast fit the silly naming of the platforms genre
