I just so happen to have shakeycam video of the next generation Sonic the Hedgehog game (http://kamalot.blogspot.com/2005/09/sonic-hedgehog-goes-next-gen.html) from a closed-door Sega press event. The video isn’t supposed to be released, but someone managed to sneak it out. While you can’t get the full idea of how cool the game is, the screens are obviously from the video and you can put two and two together, looking at the screens and imagining them in motion as you watch the video.

Damn...that looks cool.

The Sega woman speaking mentions that everything is running in real-time.

Sega just sold me an Xbox 360, a device I had been completely on the fence about before.

Because Sega's track record with Sonic has been so stellar lately...

If it goes back to it's roots that maybe the sonic game to get and running in real time is nice but I need to see the gameplay in real time. For all we know the gameplay turn outs to be sonic pinball over again. I do like what i see but it isn't what we are going to ultimately see.

That looks very cool. Is it just me though, or does Sonic seem out of place in this world? Everything else (especially the robots) is super detailed and then Sonic looks like a 3D cartoon. Just looks a little odd to me.

Don't fuck with Sonic. This looks cool. I agree the art style's a little weird, and I'd like to see more gameplay before making a real judgment.

That was so lame.

Sonic does Dragon Ball Z.

You can get some 1080p resolution screen shots of the game right here (ftp://segapr.segaamerica.com/SEGA_GAMES/Sonic%20the%20Hedgehog%20Next-Gen/) - but you will need a program that can open Epson format files. (.EPS) And they're huge since they're not compressed.

Or you can, at the risk of absolutely killing my server, check out the four shots below in my post. I won't keep them up for longer than a day or two (it's my home connection and I like my bandwidth), and I've seen them hosted on Imageshack but they get taken down quickly due to size/bandwidth issues. 56k warning - these are 300+ kilobytes each and are taken at full 1080p res (1920x1080). Would make great wallpaper for any widescreen fellas here.

If somebody would like to mirror them at a more reliable place, that'd be appreciated.

Sonic does Dragon Ball Z.
If you've ever seriously played any Sonic game, you know that he has gone Super Sonic. He does it at the finale of every serious Sonic game and it totally kicks ass.

He didn't do it in part one right. I only recall it happening in Sonic 2 and at the end when he was running/flying through the air over the ocean... O_o man that kicked ass...

Super Sonic == Mario w/Star

Yeah, did you play much Sonic? He totally went Super Sonic and even Hyper Sonic all the time. It was a load of fun. (Though, it was more of something used for the last boss of the game, or playing through it again after beating the game.)

Actually I never played any Sonic game all the way till the end, I never owned a Sega so I played here and there on someone else's.

Anyway, that looked too much like a Saturday morning cartoon.

That makes sense. I myself was a Sega kid and could tell you everything you want to know about Sonic while knowing nothing about, oh, A Link to the Past, for example.

You win some, you lose some, I guess. ;)

Well, you missed out on a big part of gaming.

Get the 8 gems, get 50 rings, and jump in the air. If you're good you can do it much sooner than the end. There was also super tails and hyper knuckles.

So really, you only truley beat the games if you get all the emeralds by the end.

You know, you may be right. I didn't get all the gems on Sonic 1 but did make it to the end several times. No Super Sonic. Unless you have to have the Chaos Emeralds to do it. Anyone?

I thought it was alright. I was born with a genesis and one hand and all that, but I thought it got a little...weak. When he went all Neo and starting runnig up walls and dodging bullets, it lost me.

Liquid, I just now caught your post, but we put the images up in 800x450 and 1920x1200 earlier this morning here (http://www.filerushnews.com/gallery/album448).

Hopefully that'll help you out a bit.

Get the 8 gems...
It was 7, and it was emeralds.

Also, this video was from E3. The parts before it featured footage of Chrome Hounds, Virtua Fighter 5, Afterburner, and House of the Dead 4.

I thought Sonic COULD run up walls. I've done it in some of his games and seen it in the Sonic CD intro movie.

In his defense, he says the word emerald a few sentences later in the post. Gem is just a generic term that emerald would fall under. I can't speak for the number you needed, as it's been so long. It probably varied by game.

All I remember is that I loved getting them and got pretty darn good at it. Hyper sonic for me all the way! :D

This is really impressive. The author mentions the screens released were from the 360 version. I assume the presentation was running on 360 development kits, considering it's the same footage the screens were taken from and that it was controlled in realtime.

That footage was amazingly pretty and the whole art direction in the Sonic games (in terms of story/character ideas) was spot on. Mario and company is more ingrained in my head than Sonic is so I'm typically more hyped at the announcement of new Mario titles (proper titles, not that Mario Golf business), but graphically these seems darn smooth. My only real concern is that it looks like the Sonic Adventure games and I never got into those. Were too uninteresting for me. I'd be much happier with a side-scolling Sonic, but I know that'll never happen again - at least not on the Box.

Looks nice, but I remember being more wowed by the Adventure series shots and video when I saw them back in the day.

Call me a cynic, but I`ll wait until I hear more about how it plays. I haven`t been particularly impressed by anything 3d sonic or even the latest 2d GBA outings.

Someone posted this on my blog recently about the whole 'Super Sonic - Dragonball Z ripoff' thing.

The Sonic games can't really be a rip off of DBZ, since it's the same guy (Akira Toriyama) responsible for the original character designs of both. The Japanese versions of the orignal Genesis game manuals even describe Sonic after he's collected all the Chaos Emeralds as "Super Saiyan Sonic". (http://kamalot.blogspot.com/2005/09/sonic-hedgehog-goes-next-gen.html)

I don't see a relation to the dbz and sonic... Not going gold or the hair...

If Sega had any sense, they would release this video out onto the net. It would create lots of positive buzz for both Sonic, and the Xbox 360.

Which means that Sega WON'T do it. Because it would be smart.

sonic is a cool dude, when mario fight toads who carry clubs, sonic fights robots with miniguns...

ANyhow, the game looked very nice...
