Half-Life 2 Xbox screens

9 screenshots (http://xbox.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=9205) from Valve's Xbox port have surfaced. Of course the graphics aren't as crisp as the pc-version's, but they still look very good for a console shooter.

I like Steam a lot. It's a much better method of copy protection than some of the other alternatives (Starforce for example). At least it can be turned off or uninstalled when you're done with the game. So I suppose, the bad thing about the Xbox version is you won't be getting new content over steam.

I guess if you don't own an up to date computer then this is your chance play that there HL2 game everybody keeps talking about, but I still think the PC version is the better value since you get all the mods and steam updates.

Well the STEAM debate is a long and boring one which we have beaten to death here.
I salute Valve for one of the best games evar but I'm done with them as long as STEAM is part of the deal.

The great news is how great HL-2 looked and played on X-Box. I was shocked at how great it looked. So I guess I will get to the next chapters of this thing just not on my PC.

Oh and anything with STARFORCE also gets the boot.

surely it's far too centralised to ever be able to cope with the kind of load it saw at HL2's release. i can't think of anything much that could cope with that kind of load apart from some bittorrent type haction.

hows the multiplayer on this? Does it support ranking on xbox live? Will there be a chance to get counterstrike source? Live is pretty superior to other methods of online gaming, so Id love this thing to have a good 16 player deathmatch and online coop.

Playing Doom 3 on the Xbox right now, and that translated over just fine. I think I am enjoying it more on the console then I ever would have on the PC. Looking forward to Half-Life 2 as well, my computer has no chance of running it and I do not plan on any major upgrades right now either; I just do not have the cash.

The screens look fine, a bit muddy but more then good enough to let me enjoy the game. I thought the Doom 3 shots I was seeing for the Xbox version looked kinda shitty, but having played it now I think it looks great.

Bring on the Half-Life 2 goodness in my opinion, so long as I can play the single player campaign, screw mods.

For all the steam bashing, (and I gotta say, I sure had a BEAST of a problem with it when I got HL2 opening day), I personally have grown to love it.
I haven't had a single problem after the first 4 days or so. (Well, there was that ONE time, but that's because my ISP took away static IP addresses without telling anyway, but that's a WHOLE different issue.)

But I love how it's got a fat pipe, so it's one of the only places I can actually get the 2-4 megabyte/second downloads cable is supposed to give me.
Also, I love the content I am continuously getting for free across the thing. Just this weekend I found that I could download (and finish) Blue Shift, which I had never had a chance to play. I just find that cool.

That's a good point. I guess I'd be more pissed if I'd ordered the Silver or Gold package and would be getting DoD when it came. :)

Well, at least I'm all over this as my PC isn't really up to par enough to handle that version. I'm glad they're going ahead and making a console version for us non-exclusive PC gamers. WoW runs pretty okay on my machine (at least good enough to where I don't go into fits on a regular basis), but it's nothing spectacular. Oddly enough, though, I'm one of those people (read - probably the only one) who actually does better with a controller than I do a mouse and keyboard. Dunno why, but it's just more fluid for me and I feel much more in control.

Anyone know if this is going to have some sort of LIVE support? Hadn't seen that mentioned anywhere (a yay or nay), but then again I didn't really think to look until now. If so, that might up the value some for me. Then again, HL has always been about the single player experience which is a very good thing.

I bought the Silver Package, and I'm not pissed. Not even angered in any way. I got to play HL2, and the HL1 games, and then CS:S, when all I really wanted to play was HL2. And getting to play DoD:S will be cool when it comes out. Of course, I never played the original DoD, so I don't know what I'm missing.

If the Xbox version of HL2 doesn't come with CS:S, then I can only be that much more happy that I bought the PC version.

I may have to pick this up once it gets cheap. If it has those nasty mid-level load times like the PC version though, I may pass. I have it for the PC but never really got all that into it for some reason. It’s a good FPS but I think it’s a bit overrated (unlike HL1 which deserved all the praise). Just my opinion. Of course, It could just be the control.

I know I'm in the minority, but I actually prefer my FPS games on a console now. Sure, a mouse is more precise and quicker, but I actually think the slowness is one of the things I like on the console. Movement on PC FPS games seems kinda spastic now after playing the likes of Halo. I think there’s more of a feeling of weight in a console FPS and I like it. I also like the analog control on walking, it just feels better than having only walk/run.

Then only genre I can think of that absolutely can’t be equaled on a PC are RTS games. You just have to have a mouse to make them as good; I see no way around that.

So, I’ll hang onto my PC version of Half-Life for the mods, etc.. and get the Xbox version to actually play through the single player. It’s a shame the Xbox version won’t have any multiplayer.

Screenshots aren't too bad. Some noticable downsampled textures, but other than that it appears nice. It'll be a great game for people who can't play it on PC.
