This Friday kicks off a 5 part review I'm going to be doing of some PC Gaming Mice. I've always wondered whether or not gaming mice were just a gimmick to get gamers to pay a premium on a nice mouse. I'll be taking a look at 4 different mice from Logitech and Razer. There will be 2 mice from each company, and there will be 2 optical mice and 2 laser mice.

Part 1 is up today (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?p=94822) with a look at the Razer Diamondback Plasma Optical mouse.

Cool review. I was wondering if you adjusted the mouse speed on the reference (MX700) mouse if it would compensate for some of the "speed" you were getting with the Razer Diamondback Plasma?

just increase the sens while you are using mx700?

While adjusting the mouse speed does make it "faster" it's harder to hit points of accuracy. The MX700 doesn't poll fast enough so it's basically "skipping" across the screen.

Thanks... ...makes sense.

I wish the copperhead would actually come out, although the more reasonable price point on the diamondback does make it awfully tempting.....

Good review. I use a Diamondback - I think it's wonderful. I used to have an "ergonomic" style mouse that was big and shaped for your hand but it just hurt my wrists - I find the low profile of the razer much more suited to me. I guess that's a very personal thing.

I'd be interested to see comparisons between the side buttons on the copperhead and on the diamondback, as they look different. I can't see the Diamondback's being beaten, personally, I find them to be just out of the way enough that I can't hit them by accident. They are pretty useless for games but I've yet to find a game where I've needed them - I just have one of them bound to autorun in WoW :)

and you find that is a noticeable difference? that kind of increase in dpi, I am not very convinced that it actually makes it significantly smoother. guess I have to try one again.
