XBoxyde (http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_1649_1_en.html) has a video of Madden 2006 on the XBox 360. Remember the "target render" footage from before? It's not even close. While the screenshots look pretty good, the animations are horrible.
Thanks 1UP. (http://www.1up.com)

Jesus, I can almost smell the reek of utter apathy coming from the Tiburon team when watching this. Shockingly poor.

Maybe it's just the quality of the video, but I swear the character models look on par with the ones from NFL 2K5. They don't look any better than that.

I never really liked sports games but I did like the idea that Sega was giving EA some competition with their NFL2k series. That series really made the Dreamcast shine too. I think in the end though a lot of people who buy madden do it for the simple fact that its football and it's madden and that's all they really care about.

I agree, it does look really dissapointing. As someone mentioned it looks like NFL2K's bulkier models with regular old Xbox/PS2 animations. Throw some specular highlights on everything and call it next gen apparently.

No it doesn't look as good as the "target render" footage we've seen a few months ago and yes there are small issues with the shadows, framerate and animations but it's far from looking bad. Sure looks better than any previous football game. The EA trashing has become worse than religious fanatism.

Yeah, man! Fuck that fanatism!!! That shit's gonna ruin the world! Wait, what the hell is fanatism?
Either way, as I said, this looks like crap for a next-gen game. I'm sorry that we're not as complacent as you are.
Well well well...
Now that it's "put up or shut up" time and they're showing the REAL GAME and not some PRERENDERED BULLSHIT, everybody gets their panties in a bunch.
Guess what people?!?
NEXT GEN LOOKS LIKE THIS GEN ONLY HIGHER-RES.
Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5, Motorstorm, Madden, Fight Night all pre-rendered trailers... get over the fanboyism and smell the reality!
Next generation console games will look like current generation PC games.

Yeah the animation looks weak, especially considering there's software out there like endorphin 2.5 (http://naturalmotion.com/pages/demos.htm) (check out the football demo in the upper right) that can do this sort of thing much more realistically.

Errr... no. You've seen the PGR3 screens, right? Show me a PC game that looks like that. I'll wait.

The game looks a hell of a lot better than the screenshots, you can’t see any of the detail in them at all. Not sure about the video, but if it’s in the same rez as these crappy artifacted screenshots I have no idea why people are getting so worked up over the graphics.

I think the models look just fine. It's the animation that's a real let-down. It's always been shitty, and, if anything, it's gotten WORSE. How does that work?

After watching the avi the animations aren't as fluid as I guess they could be, some times they seem to snap-to, and there's no real sense of contact when the players collide. But it's no worse animation wise than the current madden (which isn't exactly a rock star in that department).

EA has been making NFL 2007 for two or three years now. It will have an all new engine, be fully integrated with the ESPN license and will kick all amounts of ass.
Until then, I guess Midway's The League is what I will pick up for this year.
Madden 2007 is what gets the EA's devs all excited over.

To be fair, it's a hell of a lot easier to model cars realistically than it is human beings. Besides spinning wheels and exhaust fumes, cars don't require much in the way of animation complexity. On the other hand, I have a body and I would have a hard time mimicking the movements of professional football players, hence their incredibly high pay, and the fact that football game designers bring in football players for motion capture.
Besides, we're talking about "first-gen next-gen" here. We probably ARE, for the most part, going to end up with last-gen graphics bumped up to higher resolutions and better anti-aliasing for a while. This is yet another reason many of us try hard (and it can be hard for folks like me who simultaneously hate paying the high prices but love having cool gadgets) to avoid buying consoles at launch...

I was under the impression that we'd seen videos of PGR3 running on Beta kits. Am I wrong?
