Sega has announced Chromehounds, developed by Japan's FROM Software, the team behind Armoured Core. The squad-based mech shooter features tactical elements as well as straight action and will support 12-player Xbox Live competative and cooperative campaigns.
The screens certainly look impressive, though a little heavy on the blur effect. You can check out the images over at Boomtown (http://xbox.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=9203).

I like it! I like it a LOT!
Lots of people thought this as the most impressive game of E3 (the people that saw the trailer that is).

This game, oddly enough, is supposed to use the PhysX engine by Aegis. For some reason I didn't think there was a PhysX chip in the xBox360... am I wrong?
You can actually see a PhysX demo of this game on Aegis's website. It looks impressive.

hm, looks ok. not sure aboot all these depth-of-field shennanigans - they've got the power to do it, sure, but does that mean they have to use it? in every single shot!? it's making me rather worried about how often we're going to be expected to put up with this blur while trying to play the damn game. fair enough for a snapshot or a recording, but when you're playing it doesn't really make sense.
unless they're building a device that can see where everyone's eyes in the room are focused in the scene and adjust the image individually so everyone sees what they should, you're just going to end up staring at a big, blurry mess (on your crisp, new, HDTV, let me add!).

There is no chip in the 360 or the PS3, but the SDK was ported to both platforms.
BTW much better pics here:

The engine can be run with or without the hardware. The hardware is not going to be available this generation, but the software part will power many console games, it just won't be nearly as fast as it would be with hardware (so less physics elements).

I wish there was a game like Armored Core on Live. Then it would be like Mech Assault but everybody would have different customized mechs. Prize money to buy bigger and better cores and parts, and the actual custimization and balancing(to not be over weight).

Wow! That is one purdy looking mech game. I may have finally found a second 360 game to get excited about. I like the mech style too. Less of a giant robot look and more of a mobile artillery look. Gonna have to check out the gameplay movies and see how this thing moves.
And thanks for the link Vandenh!

Those shots are great.
Thanks for that link. I've been looking for good shots of this game since I got my newest issue of OXM.
I can't wait to see it in motion.

Ok, peeps, clean yourselves off -- FROM Software put out the visually impressive yet less than fulfilling MURAKUMO for the Xbox.
Wait and see how the control is...

I wish they would have put out a Phantom Crash 2 on Xbox or Xbox 360. The game was fun. If it had an online component that allowed up to 16 players, I think it would have been the 2nd highest played game on Live. It's biggest problem was that there were only three freaking maps for it.
It was fast paced (if you built your mech right) and you had tons of options on optimizing your mech for performance.
A little more time in the oven and that game would have been meaningful. I love the rumble pit concept of going in and out as you pleased.

Mmm, looking pretty good. I'm still hoping for a new Mechwarrior game on the PC someday, but I know Microsoft will never bother with it now as they are "console makers". Bah!

About these screenshots, just from how they're posed and the use of motion blur and depth of field I almost want to say this is FMV and not real-time.
